Very exciting to see Pesci playing a mobster again. Gave me chills. This film could very well be among the best of the genre.

What I like the most is finally the stories of Frank Sheeran and Russell Bufalino will be introduced to the general public and Jimmy Hoffa will be reintroduced to younger audiences who have no clue the impact and power he and the teamsters held during the 50s-70s.

Can't wait.

By March 5, 2018, it was also reported the film's budget had ballooned from $125 million to $140 million, due in large part to the visual effects needed to make De Niro, Pesci, and Pacino appear up to 30 years younger at various points throughout the film.By August of that year, the cost had risen to as much as $175 million, and by the time post-production had wrapped it reached $200 million, making it the most expensive film of Scorsese's career.

I understand the prevailing story is that three Colombo associates carried out the Gallo hit, but the reality is it was never proven. The guy who claimed to call Joe Yac was Joe Luparelli and his testimony was full of holes.

There were eyewitnesses who stated a lone gunman carried out the assassination. The NYPD chief of detectives told reporters at Umberto's that morning that the carnage was caused by a single gunman. These statements came before "I Heard You Paint Houses" was ever published. Brandt cross examined one witness while he was working on the book and she identified a 1970s photograph of Frank Sheeran as the man she saw shoot Joey Gallo. Gallo's bodyguard, Pete "The Greek" Diapoulos also wrote in his book that Gallo disrespected Bufalino in front of Sheeran at the Copacabana early in the night on his birthday.

It's definitely possible Sheeran was lying an Charles Brandt went along with it to sell his book, but I don't believe the Colombo crew story. Something tells me Sheeran did kill Crazy Joey.

This looks great. I know they're probably too old, but De Niro, Pacino and Pesci in the same movie directed by Scorsese? It's going to be amazing.

And thanks OrganizedCrimeChannel for posting that whole book! I read it 9 or 10 years ago in a hurry because I wanted to have read it before the movie came out lol Like pmac said, there are some dubious claims. But like with all informants, we have to decipher what is real and what is Bs.

@pmac

For the record I think Sheeran is full of shit. He didn’t kill Gallo or Hoffa. He may have been there but that’s it. I hope the movie is more about Bufalino ordering the hit rather then Sheeran executing it. I don’t think it’s debatable who ordered it.

I tagged you in this because I love to see you go on one of your anti-Bufalino rants smile

Re: The Irishman Official Trailer - 08/04/19 04:19 PM

No buffalino was the real deal. He was a boss respected across the usa. Had his hand in alot of pies. What his family have 18 guys or 24. That shows his respect. Thw genovese would call him to settle disputes in nyc. Just look at the jail house pictures hes with everyone. But to frank guy you were a huge union offical on tv in the 50tys at the Senate hearings but your were not whacking guys in nyc in the 70tys. That makes you look dumb. Your a fucking huge union guy making tons of dough but your free lancing as a hitman. When guys would do anything for a button in the 70tys in nyc. Cutt it out. Hes basically the iceman with a better author. But he was a union big. Detroit and genovese with maybe buffalino ok hit hoffa no need for the irish guy from dudin mifflin

I agree I don't think that Sheeran killed Gallo or Hoffa. I believe that Scott Bernstein said that the author had to change the ending of the book to get it published and the change was Sheeran saying that he actually killed Hoffa. I could be wrong but that is what I remember. As to who ordered it, from what I remember Sheeran himself said in the book that just before Hoffa disapeared, Bufalino took a phone call when he and Sheeran were in a restaurant in PA and came back to the table and told Sheeran that the men from east of here, meaing NYC probably the Genovese, and the men west of here, probably Chicago and Kansas City, had reached an agreement and Hoffa had to go. I would guess that Bufalino had some input but the Genovese and Chicago most likely made the final call.

Re: The Irishman Official Trailer - 08/04/19 07:06 PM

It's been years since I slogged through that boring ass book, but I thought Sheeran said he dropped Hoffa off at the house he was killed at?

Not that he killed him personally...?

I agree he prob wasn’t the killer, however he was way too close to Bruno, Buffalino, and Hoffa to not have his hands dirty. The Ice Man was a joke, prob killed a 3rd of what he said he did and 2/3 of those people were innocents... While Gallo was a stretch, I’d put my money on him having something to do with Hoffa, he was around too many powerful people to be a nobody.

On the other hand perception can be bigger than reality... I thought Chris Ford’s (played and coached in the NBA) brother was the biggest gangster in the world growing up in Ducktown. Turns out he was just a guy ripping heaters watching the neighborhood. But you couldn’t have convinced me otherwise in the late 80s early 90s

Re: The Irishman Official Trailer - 08/05/19 08:39 AM

I think he confessed to give Hoffa's children some closure, but he didn't want to be looked at as a rat, so he never told the whole truth and protected certain people.

Just sold a place in the poconos and I have 1 more going on the market shortly. We have been in Florida now for almost 2 years. No more snow for me but in the words of Eugene Pontecorvo “the friggin bugs”. Scranton is starting to turn around a bit as well as the Poconos due to the casino’s. Lots of great places to eat. HMU if you need some suggestions!!

Re: The Irishman Official Trailer - 08/05/19 05:03 PM

I think Sheeran probably killed Hoffa. The story seems plausible and makes sense that he would be the one to be able to lure Hoffa to that house under the pretense of a meeting. And like stated above, he was around those powerful people, there's no disputing that. Interestingly enough, I read a story about how they ripped up the carpet and found blood on the floorboards in the house and the location of where he said he shot Hoffa, but the blood wasn't a DNA match. Weird. Makes you wonder whose blood that was or if someone destroyed/replaced some key evidence there. Body probably cremated in one of the local funeral homes that were owned by the Detroit mob at that time. Can't see them taking him across state lines to NJ or NY to be compacted in a car or whatever, buried in Giants Stadium or buried in someone's yard or some nonsense, why take that risk?

Certainly didn't go down as depicted in "Hoffa" with Nicholson and the tough guy dwarf. Ha.
