Castro's closing of Cuban casinos dealt the Mob a blow, but it didn't cripple Italian organized crime in the US. Only Lansky and Trafficante lost big bucks because of Castro. Some historians believe that the Sixties and early Seventies were the heyday of the US Mafia.
Recently had a female friend i grew up with go over to cuba from mexico i kinda want to ask her how it was. Shes Puerto Rican but looks white im always afraid to other countrys cause im white. The mob lost cuba and invested more in las vegas, for sure a great lost of money but Vegas made more money.
Maybe. There’s no way to know for sure how much money was being made in Cuba. I just know some heavy hitters lost hundreds of millions of dollars in cash and property over there when Castro took over. Lansky, Trafficante, Giancana, Marcello and Bufalino all lost tons of money to Castro and it’s documented that they complained about it.
Cuba had to have been more profitable, and if not for Castro it would have continued to be more profitable than Vegas. The government was in their pocket.
Pittsburgh people headed by Kelly Mannarino held interest in the Sans Souci Night Club in Havana. Dirty rumor had it that they hired one Dino Cellini "talk" to Castro ;-)
