Sacra Corona Unita - 02/28/19 10:04 PM

How this italian organzied crime work and how it’s differed from other italian groups like the cosa nostra, camorra or ndrangheta?

Are they more powerful than the camorra?
Their presence outside of Italy?

Re: Sacra Corona Unita - 02/28/19 10:10 PM

I saw that members of the Camorra created the SCU.
If its true, why they separed themselves from the Camorra? And how is it different?

Re: Sacra Corona Unita - 02/28/19 10:28 PM

Here is the structure.

Quote
The SCU is made up of three distinct groupings or levels. Members can 'graduate' from one level to the next by going through riti battesimali (baptismal rites). The religious symbolism is probably left over from the SCU's association with the Camorra.

The lowest level, the Società Minore, is made up of lower-level criminals who do street-level activities. Members start out as picciotti and go through a 40-day trial to ensure they are suitable for criminal work and are not associated with the police. They are then inducted into the next phase of the level, the manovalanza, or worker. The candidate must also swear an oath of devotion to SCU.

The second level, the Società Maggiore, is made up of two positions. The Lo Sgarro position is given only to members who have killed at least three people for SCU, and from now on members cannot leave, on pain of death. Members can now form their own crew of picciotti, known as a filiale. Upon indoctrination into the La Santa position the member is given a firearm (to symbolically use on oneself upon failing SCU), a cyanide pill, cotton (representing Monte Bianco, which is considered sacred), a lemon (treating the wounds of one's comrades), a needle to puncture the index finger of the right hand, handkerchiefs (representing purity of spirit) and a spartenza (a gift of some sort, usually cigarettes).[2]

The final level is the Società Segreta, the core of the organization where key decisions are made.

They are influenced by both Camorra and ´Ndrangheta. In recent years there were several meetings of the Calabrians also attended by representatives of the SCU.

The Ndrangheta was once influenced by LCN. At what point were they able to stand on their own two though?

As you said influenced, not controlled. Sure sicilian mafia was much more powerful than 'Ndrangheta , and sicilian bosses had huge influence over 'Ndrangheta , but Calabria was their territory, they were never controlled by sicilian mafia. And after Riina war with state and huge pressure from state/police, 'Ndrangheta used money from kidnappings to buy drugs and get into drug business, while everyone were focused on Sicilian mafia , they managed to grow almost silently.

It has always amazed me how many of the dons in Italy are so power driven yet the three mafia orginzations seem to be fairly amicable and do not intrude on one another’s territory as much as you would think.

Re: Sacra Corona Unita - 03/02/19 10:50 AM

The 'Ndrangheta was influenced by Cosa Nostra but also Camorra in northern calabria there have been camorra networks.

I have heard that Calabria is like a mix of Sicily(in the south) and Naples(in the north). Not sure at what point on the map that starts.

The son of a Mafioso leaves the Ferrari at his first communion
A priest from Bari had an eventful day on Sunday. Two families linked to the mafia have made him see all the colors.

Big discomfort on the occasion of the first communion of a little Italian of 9 years, last Sunday in Bari (south). The child, son of a mafia boss currently in prison, was escorted to the front of the church in a red Ferrari convertible. His father had been banned from attending the ceremony. The spectacular arrival of the boy delighted his family members, shocked the audience and deeply shocked the priest, Don Antonio D'Angelo.

"I never thought anything like this could happen. All this is really absurd, "he indignantly said in the " Corriere del Mezzogiorno " . Don Francesco Preite, who works daily with troubled children and adolescents, shares the wrath of his colleague: "Such episodes are intolerable because they contrast with a deeper and more religious aspect. Other values must be taught to our children, "he says.

The incredible arrival of the young boy was not the only event that made Don Antonio D'Angelo leap on that day. The family of another communicant, also related to local crime, had the idea to organize a thunderous and unauthorized fireworks show. "I felt like I was at the party of the patron saint of my country. They lasted so long, "laments the churchman. "How is it that no one at the police has heard the fireworks? They were strong and it lasted 5 or 6 minutes? ", An inhabitant annoyed.

Confiscated from the mafia, this smuggler's ship becomes a boat-library

The ship is called Kalimche , a sailing boat that was confiscated from organized crime in Apulia, the Sacra Corona Unita. After a year spent in the port of Otranto (Italy), it was restored by eight miners, as part of their work of general interest, out of the prison where they were detained. And now, Kalimchè serves as a library for all.
The project named Il Cantiere d'Amare (Love Building) was set up by the Marcobaleno Social Promotion Association, located in Bari. She won the prize for the 2018 edition of the Orrizonti Solidali contest (Horizons solidaires), supported by the Megamark Foundation. A total of 24 arrests were made during the searches ordered by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Bari, Puglia, Lazio, Abruzzo and Emilia Romagna, with the collaboration of the Crime Prevention Departments of Puglia. Canine units and air support were also involved in the raids.

During the investigation, several weapons along with ammunition, drugs and accounting records were seized, as well more than one million euros in cash.

The present investigation began in the early 2017 when a turf war broke out in the Japigia district south of Bari over control of the drugs trade, following a split within the clan.

The Fourth Mafia is still underestimated by the Italian state.

600 thousand inhabitants, 7 thousand square kilometers and a single court, moreover with 12 thousand pending trials, many in the trial phase due to lack of classrooms in which to hold trials. Suffice it to say that in October 2021 it was not possible to assign a dignified workplace to 14 expert chancellors and six judicial operators. This is the situation in the province of the dangerous and ruthless 'Fourth Mafia' in which the state thinks about how to continue to deal with it, not taking into account, at the moment, the need to reactivate the judicial structures that were abandoned a few years ago.
