Nice pic, RD! Do you have any other photos of him? Carlisi has always been one of the Chicago guys that was interesting to me. Also, would you happen to know what the story/year was behind this particular mugshot?

Barrett,

IIRC, he was a driver for Aiuppa, as well as a messenger of sorts relaying orders and messages from the bosses to other Capos and soldiers. I also believe he was the Outfit's money man that kept track of a lot of the cash. Toodoped would be the man to give more insight.

Never did some serious research on the guy but it seems that Carlisis main rackets were gambling and loan sharking and he probably came up in the Cicero area where he already had some relatives into the Outfit

From what I've read on Sam, he is originally from Buffalo, NY where his older brother Roy was a powerful capo. In Chicago, I believe he had one or more additional brothers who were involved in the Outfit. Years back in Florida, I met a younger gal claiming to be his granddaughter. Like most children and especially grandchildren of mob guys, she said she really had no idea of his involvement with the mob until he went to trial. She said other than that, he was a typical grandfather. Toodoped, since he came up through the Cicero crew, do you know how he later ended up in Melrose Park?

I think Sam and Roy were originally from Chicago. Their family moved to Buffalo in 1931. You are right Roy became a powerful Capo for Magadinno then supported the rebel Pieri faction after Don Stefano didn't give Christmas bonuses and then LE found a half million dollars stashed in his son Pete Magadinno's home. Not sure when Sam moved back to Chicago.

The first info which I have on Sam Carlisi being in the Cicero area is from 1947 where he was arrested as a keeper of a gambling joint. It seems that Sam had a brother who went by the name of Alphonse who also was an Outfit guy in the same territory and both brothers used the same alias which was "Drago".

I assume that Carlisi's Melrose Park connections came through Aiuppa and Ansani since both were operating in the two areas since the old days. Later or during the early 70s when Aiuppa became the boss, his crew began absorbing the whole MP area, probably with the help of Carlisi and his close associate Marcello, but they never completely relinquished their old Cicero connections.

I find it crazy that more or less the Outfit has not been decimated as much as the 5 families. I know there has been a few big trials like Family Secrets but nothing like Pizza, windows, Gotti 2,3 and 4 or the commission case.

It would seem Detroit and Chicago are still around still powerful and making $.

Nice pic, RD! I think I remember seeing that one somewhere else on the board. From what I understand, Carlisi was extremely close with Aiuppa. A similar relationship was mirrored between Carlisi and Jimmy Marcello.
