Why was the Spilotro Brothers hit so brutal?

Why was the Spilotro hit all punches and kicks? Why not a bullet? Hitmen in leather gloves? What was the reason for killing them in that way and then burying them in farm land?

I think another version of how they were killed came out later, I don't know which one is the correct version. On version if I remember had them just being shot.

They were definetly badly beaten. Also they found dirt in their lungs i believe so they were still alive when buried

A lot of times when the outfit hits one of their own it's very brutal.

Due the Spilotro actions the outfit lost las vegas. What I think is why the outfit bosses doesn't ordered to whack them first.

Where do you come up with these thoughts. The outfit did not lose Vegas because of tony. Tony was sent out there to watch for them but he did other things that they were not happen with. Just so you know they had a hamburger joint out there. I was there many times tony also had a son who was adopted. They set up a phony beef with Michael and tony had to fly in Michael was not made. Then the rest is what happen. Stop with post when you have no idea.

They weren't buried alive. They were beaten and strangled to death in the basement of some house in the suburbs of Chicago. They weren't alive in the trunk of the car on the way to where they were found buried in Indiana. Calabrese was there and testified in that "Family Secrets" trial a few years back. The buried alive thing came from Casino. An "Urban Myth" thing.

I'm thinking either Cullotta told other Outfit guys about Spilotro's ambition to take out the midwest bosses, or Spilotro himself babbled it to too many people and it got back to Chicago. He told Cullotta he wanted to be Lucky Luciano and for Lefty to be his Meyer Lansky. These were the ravings of a coked up lunatic. DeNiro's reaction in the movie is perfect when Pesci hints he wants to take over the Outfit. Just stares at him knowing he'd lost his mind. In the book, Cullotta says he had no choice but to pretend he was going along with it because the second Tony detected he wasn't, Tony would kill him. You have to wonder how many other soldiers and associates Spilotro strung along with this deranged idea. With him talking this way and people knowing about it, it would make sense that the bosses wanted to make one serious example out of him.

On April 25, both Spilotro brothers were indicted by a Chicago federal grand jury on multiple counts that included attempted extortion and racketeering. On top of it all, Tony Spilotro was scheduled to go on trial again in Las Vegas in late June.

His attorney, Oscar Goodman, now the mayor of Las Vegas, said recently he is confident he could have gotten Spilotro off on all charges. However the Chicago Outfit, which knows a thing or two about computing odds, wasn't willing to bet that The Ant was lucky enough, or Goodman talented enough, to win four consecutive criminal trials.

Aiuppa, who headed to prison in the spring of 1986, due largely to testimony from Spilotro's people, evidently had seen and heard enough.

A hit team that included Nick Calabrese-now a top government informant currently testifying against his mob colleagues-was sent out to Vegas to kill Tony Spilotro using explosives and automatic weapons. After that plan was aborted, a scheme was hatched to lure the brothers to a meeting in a Bensenville house with the promise of a mob promotion for Tony and having Michael become a "made" member of the Outfit.

Unlike in the movie Casino, in which Anthony Spilotro, played by Joe Pesci, is beaten with a baseball bat, there was no forensic evidence that the men had been buried alive, or beaten with bats.

Calabrese said he tackled Michael Spilotro and held his legs while another mobster strangled him with a rope. He said he heard Tony Spilotro ask his executioners, "Can I say a prayer?" There was no reply.

The brothers' corpses were driven to a cornfield on the outskirts of Enos, Ind. by Fecarotta and others for burial. On June 23, their grave was found by a farmer. Investigators found the viciously beaten bodies-bruised from head to ankle-under five feet of earth.

Forensic pathologist Dr. John Pless testified last month that autopsies of the Spilotros, in which he took part, determined that multiple blunt trauma injuries to the head, neck and chest-most likely the result of punches and kicks, not bats-caused the brothers' deaths. The Spilotros, Pless added, died partly as a result of their lungs and airways being so full of blood, they couldn't breathe.

That's quite something to kill someone using your fists and feet, but then again with 10 guys I would assume it would be over fairly quick. I remember about 2011 I asked Frank Cullotta if he ever regretted playing along with the murders and wish Tony was still alive and he said yes sometimes

Spilotro was too violent so the Feds start cooperating with the local police for arrest tony and his gang plus he fucked the Rosenthal wife Geri and the bomb under lefty car attracted too much attention from the police and the media and the worst was that Frank cullata and sal romano flipped and the anticipo risked to get a long sentence;all this thing made furious the outfit bosses and Tony and his brother was killed. The outfit send Donald Angelini that was the opposite of Spilotro for save the skim but the was too late.
