I thought Jersey is just a shit hole with little opportunities for big money making but then again the Genoveses, Gambinos, Bonannos, Luccheses, DeCavalcantes and Philly all have crews in Jersey.

What the fuck is in Jersey why they all got crews there?

They should think outside the square and send a crew to Hawaii, infiltrate ILWU Local 142 and other ILWU locals to control the ports in Hawaii. There is also the lucrative meth trade, meth fetches a higher price in Hawaii than anywhere else in the world. Just make a deal with the Mexicans for their super meth. There are other money making ventures to be had in Hawaii as well.

New Jersey is positioned in the NYC metro area and the Philly metro area and is largely a suburb of the two. If the Mafia has a presence in NY and Philly, they're going to have a presence in NJ, where a lot of mob guys live. Also Italians are the largest ethnic group in the state. It also has the nations 8th largest GDP.

On the LA front - The remainder of the LA family are rumored to be a West Coast crew of the Gambino family and also Donnie Shacks, a Colombo capo, lives in LA.

The five families each have crews in Miami, or at least in South Florida.

That goes a long way to explaining it, especially the large Italian presence.

BigFella - good topic post buddy, I always am curious as well anout the Philly North jersey crew. They seem to be really involved in gambling and loan sharking and from what others on here that know more than me like Dante and bobby p, they have a good working relationship with the Lucchese's, Genovese, and the Decavs.

I assume Scoops Licata is still the official capo right? Hes gotta be pushing 80 now though. I would think that Lou Fazzini being his number 2 has to be runniing alotta things these days. Does anyone know more about their current status? Is Nicky O and Beeps still involved?

North jersey doesnt have two philly crews because north jersey is too far from philly. Crews are usually in close proximity to a home base( for the most part). The original philly crew started down neck in newark because a phiilly relative lived there. They got the ok from carlo gambimo( i think)and they were allowed to domsome business.
Thats how it started, it never got too big. They worked with everyone up there.
Tony Caponegro had a large book and shylock biz, he was very powerful.
If he was successful by becoming boss, there would definitely be more philly crews in north jersey. The tables would of been turned. That said, if the genovese didnt kill caponegro, i strongly believe Philly would have killed him. No is philly gonna answer to a guy 2 1/2 hours away.

I don't think there's a lot of Mob guys in Hawaii, unless they're on vacation or in witness protection. I don't think there ever were Italian neighborhoods there either. How are they going to move in to a place thousands of miles from their traditional area, and just take over the ports? Especially now when anyone working in a port facility has to undergo a background check.

For whatever reason there is a ton of gambling money to be made in Jersey, both north and south. I don't know if its because of second-generation ethnic groups that have a fair amount of money, but it's always been a place with a lot of books. And where there's degenerate gamblers, there's loan-sharks and extortion and bustouts...

I think people also forget that very few captains in any family want to live in their old neighborhoods--the New Yorkers are on the island or in New Rochelle or North Jersey, and plenty of the Philly guys are over the Walt Whitman in South Jersey.

All the power guys are still in South Philly. You have a few in south jersey like Staino who lives in Swedesboro, George Borgesi lived in cherry Hill in the 90's. Canalichio lived in Wash Twp. Ralphie head ( associate not a power guy) lives in wash twp also.

Same old with this crew since the beginning of time-Scoops has been the Capo of the crew forever and Big Lou is being groomed to take it over and runs the day to day for Scoops. Basically just a gambling crew that sends an envelope to South Philly, always has been.
