So are those Italian gypsy clans in Rome anything on the level of the traditional Sicilian, Calabrian or Neapolitan groups or are they just some thugs doing the typical drug dealing and intimidation tactics?

The Casamonicas are at the same level of Carminati and was powerful while the Spada of Ostia even if not so powerful was the only oc group in Rome classificate as "mafia types organization". Carminati never respected the gypsies because for him "all idiots" but made bussiness with them samerican thing for the camorra. And them are Sinti a different tipe of gypsies because was more integrated respect the roms that lives in the shacks.

Recently there was a trial against the Spadas and they needed a translator because Sinti have their own secret language.

Anti-mafia probe into Spada threats (3)
'Criminal peace pact broken'

(ANSA) - Rome, November 27 - The Rome anti-mafia prosecutor's office on Monday opened a probe into the two latest acts of intimidation against Ostia's Spada criminal clan at the weekend. On Saturday shots were fired at the door of Silvano Spada, cousin of Roberto, being held for attacking a RAI journalist; and on Sunday the door of Silvano's brother's house was kicked and punched. Investigators are also probing the kneecapping of two people including a reputed Spada associate last week. Investigative sources said a peace pact between clans may have been broken and "what we are now seeing is a battle for control of rackets" in the Roman seaside municipality. The Spadas and their rivals are vying for control of drug trafficking, loansharking, gambling, and social housing scams, police said. The other dominant clan in Ostia are the Fascianis, once allies of the Spadas, an ethnically Sinti family.

Finally got around to see it. Haha that was vicious. Fucking nutjob. Dont try to interview a man who doesnt want to talk. I dont know why it reminds of that old video of the lawer and his client and the client is shooting at him with a small gun and the lawyer is using his briefcase as a shield and hiding behind a skinny tree. Those caught on tape shows.

I wonder if someone breaks that glass in the background to distract potential witnesses. It's almost as if he's giving someone a cue. He keeps looking over, like he's signaling someone. Then the glass shatters. Then, he head butts the guy.

I must say that it's strange that a Sinti crime family would back a supposedly far right party ...

What's more is that this CasaPound group is a fairly obscure political party and OC groups aren't known for backing underdogs .

Yeah the far right doesn't even like gypsies.

That's an interesting theory but I doubt it. After all, there's a camera right there and the guy doesn't seem to give a shit.

I don't mean to take this thread into off topic territory , but are families with deep roots in Rome more likely to support the far right than others ? If so then is that a Roman and/or Italian political peculiarity ?

I'm asking because I've never read about localism playing a prominent role in European far right politics .

Body found on Ostia beach
Amid fresh raids

(ANSA) - Rome, December 1 - A body was found in the crime-ridden Roman costal municipality of Ostia Friday. The body is of a man of about 60 years of age, police said. It was dressed. Police have been carrying out fresh raids in Ostia after recent episodes of shots fired at doors of clan members and the kneecapping of two people in a pizzeria. Two members of the Spada clan have been arrested for attacking a RAI State TV journalist. Police say a clan war has broken out between the Spadas and Falcianis after an uneasy truce broke down.
In the raids, police found drugs and guns and arrested two people.
Guns were found hidden behind walls in flats, police said.
In total seven people were searched and five cars also searched.
Some 100 people were checked in the streets of Ostia, and 20 found to have criminal records.
Ostia's council was dissolved for mafia infiltration two years ago.

OC groups aren't known for backing underdogs - not entirely true though
I'd rather say they'll go in bed with whoever they can benefit the most from (and vice versa) / then there is no left or right.
Provenzano was even backing the communist party at a certain time / very cunning move though

Explosion at home of Spada witness
Homemade bomb on balcony of parents' house in Ostia

(ANSA) - Rome, October 3 - A homemade bomb exploded on Tuesday night at the Ostia home of the parents of a woman who aided investigators in the Spada mafia clan case, which resulted in the arrest of 32 people. Police and a bomb squad were called to the scene and found an additional rudimentary explosive underneath the building. An investigation is underway.
The father said the bomb was thrown onto his balcony.
The explosion partially damaged the window shutters.
Rome Mayor Virgina Raggi tweeted #Let'sNotLetOurGuardDown: the institutions are at your side".
The Spadas have been investigated on charges including drug trafficking, loan-sharking, gambling, social housing scams, and for clashing with a rival clan over control of the Ostia area on the Roman coast.
One of their members, Roberto Spada, hit headlines last November by attacking a journalistic crew.
In June he got a six-year jail term for the brutal attack on two members of a crew working for State broadcaster RAI in the aftermath of elections in Ostia.
The court recognized that the use of mafia methods was an aggravating factor in the assault.
While being asked about the Spadas' alleged support for far-right group CasaPound, Roberto Spada head-butted and broke the nose of RAI reporter Daniele Piervincenzi and also attacked cameraman Edoardo Anselmi on November 7.
Anselmi suffered bruising on his back after being hit with a stick but still managed to get the footage that led to the eventual conviction.
The Spada clan, who are of Roma origin, have long ruled the underworld in Ostia, Rome's ancient port and now a popular beach resort.
In January police and Carabinieri officers in Ostia arrested 32 people including the alleged chief of the Spada clan, Carmine Spada.
In one wiretap leading to the arrests, a victim of extortion described how Carmine aka 'Romoletto' Spada came to his restaurant with a flame-thrower saying "this isn't threatening you, it's going to kill you".
Another victim said "these people aren't going to stop at anything, and if Romolo (Carmine) doesn't get the money he'll kill us all".

The Spada clan women tried to assault the journalist Federica Angeli, the journalist written in many articles on the situation of the houses illegally occupated by spada clan members.
Angeli was documenting the eviction of the houses, when some women tried to attack her by calling her "carrion", the escort protected the journalist who, however, had to leave to avoid greater risks.

Aren't a few of the 'ndrine in the Cosenza region of Sinti background as well? There's the Abbruzzese "Zingari" clan. They reportedly hold sway over the hometown of a notorious family that lives in my area.

yes the abbruzzese ndrangheta clan is sinti, the most powerful local clan (ciarelli) in abruzzo is also sinti and based in pescara
anyway the casamonica's are a bit overrated, they control just a couple neighborhoods in rome (romanina and tor vergata)

Re: Journalist attacked by a Spada Clan member in Rome - 05/10/19 07:13 AM

A vast operation by the carabinieri who, at dawn yesterday, carried out 22 arrests in Rome, Trapani, Foggia, Voghera, Paola, Nuoro and Tornimparte, including those belonging to the "Casamonica" family.

This is a survey by the carabinieri that since January 2017 has made it possible to ascertain the existence of a criminal association aimed at drug trafficking, structured on a criminal group with a family connotation that operated mainly on the sites of via del Quadraro and Porta Furba in Rome, both managed by the "Casamonica", points of retail cocaine and important junction points for narcotics traffic.

The organization, in addition to the garments attributable to the Casamonica, was made up of other individuals, all Italians, to whom the Clan had entrusted specific roles and tasks. A turnover of over 100,000 euros per month has been estimated.
