"They're bad people but they're our bad people".

Pretty tribal attitude to have; belongs in a different age.

His book blood and honor with that guy the crow was maybe the greatest book wriiten with a member or criminal. Just hit every point. Came out i think 88 give or take a year. Way before sammy tried to rewrite the godfather.

I'll have to check out that book pmac.

I'm curious to see that show he's voicing over Kingpins. I wonder what that is all about.

Quote:
“Today, because you don’t have the resources, you don’t have the manpower, and you got that news hold, that 24/7 cycle, you go out there for a story you come back, you better have something to write.”

With the internet and social media playing a big role in how people get their news, because of the immediacy, there is less time for journalists to research the facts.

“With the media the way it is now, there aren’t as many checks and balances as there used to be,” he said. “There is so much crap floating around out there, and it’s easy to get caught up in the hysteria of get it out, get it done, get it fast, be first. It’s more important to be right.”

Well said.

Blood and Honor really was phenomenal. No punches pulled, no glorification or romamce BS. Just right to the hard truth and straight to the point. Nicky Crow was surely a low life but at least it wasnt a self serving rewritten version of history like most mob bios. Its funny that for someone who was a con man his book seems the most realistic

Nicky Crow wishes he hadn't ratted, to this day. A lot of old timers are getting out and Nicky thinks Long John just played him. Not saying Scarfo was the forgiving type, but hey, you never know.. and Long John probably had a lot to gain by causing this domino effect and ending the Scarfo era forever.

I haven't read Mafia Prince but it can't be any worse than D'Arco's sense of self-importance.

Re: George Anastasia’s life of crime reporting - 10/09/17 10:21 PM

The Crow may have been pulling his last scam " Nick was no dummy and he knew if the Crow flipped it was over for him and many others.

I still think it was a little others scamming and the Crow knew the entire family was going down .

If I am not mistaken wasn't Tommy Del making a deal ? The Crow had to be relevant and creative quick before anyone else made the deal.

Crow was in for life no matter what Tommy Del had him dead and he would of been getting out last year with the rest.

He may have pulled off his last racket !!!

d arcos book was pretty good but I gotta say mafia prince is def a better read because of the fascinating first hand accounts about scarfo. That being said Leonetti has a much much bigger ego than d arco though. He oozes sleaze and excuses, basically according to him he was an all American angel and his uncle was Hitler and he's not responsible for anything he ever did because his uncle was off the hook. Still a worthwhile read though for philly mob insight.

Serp a bunch on people flipped so Scarfo got buried by a bunch of guys bot just Caramandi.

Re: George Anastasia’s life of crime reporting - 10/10/17 03:33 AM

What is the timeline for philly mobsters flipping?

-Nick Caramandi (1986)
-Tommy Delgiorno (1986)
-Eugene Milano (1987)
-Larry Merlino (1988)
-Phil Leonetti (1989)

Is that correct? Did Caramandi or Delgiorno flip first?

Blood and Honor is the best book out there, however there is another one by Philadelphia Cop Frank Friel called Breaking the Mob. Real good book also.

If i am remembering right , Don't know if Tommy did it was so obvious when the indictment came down on the Crow he was going to flip ! And this was before all the jail house maneuvering .

Don't matter Caramandi was still going to pull off one more racket this time on the Feds but they got him in the end and by the way he sounds he wished he did his time.

Re: George Anastasia’s life of crime reporting - 10/10/17 12:08 PM

If i remeber rite in tommy dels book by george mobfather the new jersey state police flipped tommy like a month before crow. They had his summer house wired up and tommy del would be drunk ripping scarfo and company. New he was a dead man. The feds played the tapes for the crow and that was it. He does come off a broken man. Like that 2 years he was a made guy on the streets of philly was his greatest days. Then it was ketchup n spaghetti. The 1 2 punch with tommy an crow was the first in a mob family they really steamd rolld the philly family. Laid the groundwork for fat pete n little al n the luchese family.

Think lawrence merlino flipped after leonetti didnt have much to bring to the table but they still cutt his sentence way down. He was released in 1997. Didnt he die out west no family or anything serp? Or was that a planted story. There was the boston made guy sonny mercurio who gave up the induction ceromony locatiin so the feds could wire it up. He died in a rooming house in little rock. A broken man said he regretted everything the feds used him up n spit him out.

Did lawrence merlinos kids and family really just cutt him off. I find it hard to belive after getting locked up in 1987 doing 10 yrs they just cutt him off even his nephew joey probaly didnt care if he was living back in the sticks of new jersey. But i think his kids testified infront of the casino commission a few years back that they did cutt there father off and didnt even no were he was burried.

At first the kids were around there cousins (Skinny) and others but as time want on they did not feel same way . In the end they were with and loved there father .

The wife and boys went on to build Yogis business (Nat Nat)into a great business and it was not long after the money was rolling in and who try's to extort his own family with the excuse that there father flipped " yes Skinny ! The business is still very strong and is under a different name. (Bay shore rebar)

Tommy Del had a small condo right off ninth street in Ocean City NY 9 th street is the main drag in . The Feds knew that they could wire it up (and knew he was week)at will and did , and yes they had him talking bad about the boss drunk and sober and of course once it was played they did not even need gambling or any other reason to flip him .... he should have never been made he should of been left as a associate earner he was not all Italian .

You don't hear many say the Feds did them good , most of these guys are or were born to be mobsters or close to it . The guys that are good earners that have a good head on there shoulders leave the Feds and make money legally and do well . Some are just ment to be at the bottom.

It was not a tower " it's was a low rise maybe five or six floors , and there were two or three, it was the second building off the boardwalk in Ocean City NJ pool was out the front toward the boards. I can not remember the name of it .

And there a chance it's no longer there but you can try 9th street and the boardwalk second building back because the could never get the end property it was a popular old time movie house , so they built around it.

One of the first things to be rebuilt after a " Hurricane " is the boardwalk " it's the shores money maker.

Don't know much about him other than his writing and Mob talk videos. I did see an interesting youtube video of him with Angelo Lutz talking to college kids about organized crime.

Drinking a shot every time Anastasia calls a wiseguy handsome in one of his books. Good drinking game.

DelGiorno flipped before Caramandi. According "Mobfather" by George Anastasia it was on November 10, 1986. Caramandi flipped a few days after Tommy Del went into hiding.

Fresolone became a CI sometime after he got out of prison in 1987.
