The story of the Uva couple, who robbed the social clubs, was made into a movie, Rob The Mob. Has Ray Ramano and Joe Gannascoli (Vito from Sopranos) in it.

They also made one last year called The Wannabe with Vincent Piazza (played Lucky Luciano on BWE) and Particia Arquette (True Romance) as the Uvas.

Castellano knowing Angelo Ruggerio mentioned him on those tapes, becuase it led to Big Paul being indicted. Yet, Big Paul still hesitated to act and demanded a copy of the tapes.

Someone else on here a while back mentioned if it were Gigante he would've just had em clipped, no hesitation. Castellano should've had Ruggerio and propbably Gene Gotti handled immediately as soon as he got word his name was mentioned.

If he would've done that, John Gotti might've been too scared to make a move. Big Paul's hesitation cost him his life.

Also, Big Paul making Tommy Bellotti as his underboss. If he put Jimmy Failla in as UB he might've been feared and respected enough for the Gotti conspirators to not make a move.

Excellent thread to start....I am pretty sure this one will get some interesting replies.

I am gonna sit back and take in everyone's opinion.

My opinion is, Gotti trying to be Al Capone in 1985. He single handily brought down the entire game.

Also Nardi (that was an associate) and Danny Greene that tried to take the cleveland family.

For the Gallo war,I think that if in the early 1960s crazy joe had serious changes to take the family and if shouldn't arrested he would become the boss or a powerful capo under colombo.

Vito Genovese made arguably 2 of the dumbest moves in cosa nostra history.

The Apalachin meeting was definitely a dumb move having that many gangsters come into a small town after having meetings there before.

Vito Genovese kiss of death on Joe Valachi basically labeling him a rat when he had not yet flipped but after that giving him a reason to do so.

I think it wasn't that dumb, they had a chance to win (especially with somebody like Licavoli as their main opponent).

About dumbest moves by the Mafia, I would quote Licavoli's actions again: if he really switched price tags on pants in shops and used stolen credit cards when he was boss already (or anyway, when he was already drowning in the money he made), even though he had no consequences from this, it still makes him look like a clown. Even Roy DeMeo or Sam DeStefano's motives can be explained at least with some psychological illness or whatever, but here with Licavoli I don't really get it....Unless the stories were just made up by somebody who wanted him to look funny.

Meyer Lansky sinking $5 million of his money, and $6 million of others' money, into building the Havana Riviera Hotel and Casino--opened nine months before Castro took over.
