How was Carmine Persico on streets as Boss? - 06/17/17 07:10 PM

What years was Carmine Persico on the streets as Boss of the Colombo's and what was he like compared to the other Bosses during that time? Did Corallo, Gigante, Castellano, and Rastelli respect him?

Persico was jailed from 1973 to 1979 using his brother alphonse as street boss, from 1979 to 1981 was free on the street,on November 9, 1981 get 5 y and after get out in 1984 went on the lam nad was caught thanks to his cousin betrayl in january 1985.
So just 3 years as boss on the street.
For the respect I don't think that he was well respected because after the joe colombo shooting the family had a very bad reputation.

He still had enough respect that they let him on the Commission, unlike Rusty Rastelli. Persico was still involved in Commission businesses and decisions. Don't know how much they respected him beyond that though.

Ya the commission asked dibella to step down after he was released from prison. Scarpa tells the fbi he becomes the official boss in nov 1980 he only had a few yrs on the street as boss but im sure he was meeting with all the other bosses. His brother allie was the consig since like 1976 and was around funzi tieri alot scarpa says to.

Persico voted to against killing Galante. He was highly respected amongst his family but i think all that jail time just hindered his power. Thats why vic tried to overthrow him. Kinda hard to be a boss when ya people never see u. Also rusty was on the commission but galante just hijacked his position.

Most likely like he was in everything he did all over it .

He was very aggressive as a south BK gang member and he was good at making money and friends.

He grew up in the years and in the same area as many of guys that became very good at what they did.

After the Gallo situation he rose quickly and wound up with a big shy business and reinvested along the was , he had money before he became boss.

As a skipper he was hands on and still very aggressive and obviously had most businesses locked down in BK and was in LI before it was popular to be there and still there to this day .

Always read wild bill always had it coming. They let it go for so long and when the young allie boy was indicted it had to go. Mike scars says wild bill was a train coming but i bet he just wanted to eat. I think wild bill or vic called carmine a rat and that would never be forgiven. Kinda sad the sons doing life for avenging his dads lcn honor. The persico family dont fuck around.

And from what sonny franzese says about carmine and his kids and such was nothing but glowing respect and this was when his own son was wearing a wire against him around 2005. He was recored saying albert kid blast was a dog. Think thats bad in mob world.

Wild Bill was murdered for a few reasons. One, the Persicos were worried that he was going to stage a coup and take over the family. Cutolo did have a lot of supporters and underlings. Two, Cutolo allegedly called Persico a rat for acknowledging the existence of the Mafia in the 1986 Commission trial, which angered Persico. Lastly, Cutolo sided with Vic Orena in the war. The Persicos decided to demote Cutolo to soldier as punishment but then chose to kill him a few years later. I don't know if they were planning to kill him all along, or just decided to do it. But grudges are held in that life so I am certain a lot of Persico people wanted to see him go from the start.

All of this plus...
In the end they went after him under the veil of the claims to Chris Paciello in Miami. Cutolo held weight in South Florida and when Paciello began operating down there successfully there was a series of sit downs over who he belonged to and who had a legitimate claim. This was used as the straw that broke the camels back and got Cutolo murdered while all the other things IMO weighed far more heavily into it, it was the Paciello claim that acted at the vehicle for his murder.

P.S.

Anyone have any idea what happened to his son? I know he got thrown out of Wit Sec but can't really find anything else about him.

In underboss,Gravano who came up as a Colombo says that Persico was well respected by all the families. When he went away he was one of the few mob guys that he,Gravano, thought had always shot him strait.I have read that the judge in the commission case said that Persico was extremely sharp.
