JOSEPH RAGUSA Obituary
Joseph Ragusa, 78, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. The Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. followed by Visitation from 4:30 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64124. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 12 p.m. Monday, March 6, at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 6415 NE Antioch Rd., Gladstone, MO 64119, followed by burial at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Joe was born January 17, 1939, in Kansas City, MO, to Charles and Maria (Pagano) Ragusa. Joe was everyone's favorite uncle, from his own nieces and nephews to his friends' grandchildren. There wasn't a child he didn't love and spoil. His favorites eventually became his own grandkids who were the center of his world. He had the softest heart not only for children but there was not an animal he didn't love and many seemed to find their way to his home. Joe was one of kind and a loyal friend who was never one to miss a game of gin or an evening "supervising" at his nephew's deli. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Tony and Pete Ragusa; brothers-in- law, George DiGiovanni and Joe Cuda; and nephew, Pete Ragusa Jr. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Gerry Ragusa; his children, Maria Ragusa, Carl Ragusa (LuAnn), Paula O'Rear (Jeff); grandchildren, Nicki, Joseph and Carl Ragusa, Michelle and Melaina O'Rear; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol and Frank Poppa, Annita Cuda, Virginia DiGiovanni; and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers: Joe Mike Ragusa, Anthony DiGiovanni, Michael Poppa, Joe Pete Christiano, Sal Abbott, Michael Pizzichino, Tony Mike Nigro. Honorary Pallbearers: Frank Poppa, Dominic Messina, Pete Simone, Johnny Joe Sciortino, Frank DeLuna, Jim Moretina, Willie Cammisano, John Palma, Alex Garcia. Do any of the KC experts know by any chance if that Tony Biase character out of Omaha was a bonafide made man of the KC family?

He isn't in any of Bill Feather's mafia charts of the KC family.

Re: Kansas City Mobster Passes - 06/05/17 03:16 PM

What people don't understand about small families is that more times than not, their brothers, cousins and nephews are members, thier born into the mob. As for the experts, when ligambi was running things in the 2000's, people said they was just a street crew when ligambi had guys in Florida, south jersey and who know"s where else.

Yes but even with this they had only 20 made men, mostly over 60s; so its just like an another gang in kansas city.

Re: Kansas City Mobster Passes - 06/05/17 04:46 PM

Yes, but I have a problem when people use the term "gang" or "crew" to put a family down, those labels don't measure influence, for example, in the 20's they called the Chicago outfit the Capone gang...and he had the whole city in his pockets, but when you guys use the term gang or street crew to describe a family it takes on a different meaning

Thebigfellas they called it capone gang and not chicago crime family or the outfit because until Valachi hearings terms like crime family" or "family" used to refer to a oc group isnt widely knowed, but knowed the meaning of the word gang
After valachi every crime families take the name of its bosses in 1963.

The KC family can easily call gang because out the almost 30 made men there was no making ceremony in the last 20 years and murder related to the family.

My god will you please fucking stop with this made list you always posts its so freaking wrong, jesus, how many times do you have to be corrected. 3/4 of the guys you have listed furio are dead. I have posted numerous times the list of remaning made guys, with the recent losses due to death to include Rags and Joey P, Scalish is pretty close to it.

Lol, you're exactly right. I think there's several people here who don't believe that KC, St Louis, Tampa, New Orleans, Buffalo, etc. all pretty much died out after the eighties. I mean, they may have had a case or two, but really smalltime stuff.

Yeah and he had just been given a sentence reduction a few years back, cut his time by 10 years he didn't have much longer to go before he was eligible for release, just a couple of years. I've been told that Piscotta has cancer its never good to get cancer and to have to rely on prison doctors.

Yep that was the bid for the jewel thing with his pops right? Shit news to me about Piscotta, you get sick in prison good luck.
