Current California activity?

Current California activity? - 05/05/17 06:46 PM

Specifically paging Vacari, Sinatra, others who've discussed mafia/syndicate activity in California, but any feedback is appreciated.

What's happening in California today?

I know it's not much. Joe Isgro (Gambino) was busted in LA. I've read other Gambinos have action in LA.

The LA family is the only California family still believed to be breathing. Is there anything big they're still involved in? I've read about Mike Esposito, his porn company, Gentlemen's Video.

Anything in the bay area today? San Diego?

I know Vegas is in Nevada, but California gangsters have always been involved with Vegas. Anything still going on in Vegas? I've heard whispers about the Cortez, although it's probably just rumors stemming from it being one of the only privately owned casinos where complete ownership is unknown.

Nah the LA family is done for. Isgro and his gang are the last wiseguys in LA. There are some remnants of the old family still around but it's pretty much gone. Ain't nothing in Vegas but corporations.

Thanks, Ralphie. I forgot to mention you among the people with some info about Cali. It seems like there's been a few stories about Gambinos in LA in the past decade or so. It would seem with the LA family just about extinct, LA is now Gambino turf, assuming there's much of anything going on. I know for years Chicago had the final word on just about everything out west.

Isgro is said to run a rather impressive underground gambling empire down here, a lot of high stakes poker games and that sort of thing. He's a millionaire many times over..There's certainly a lot of money to be made here but not many LCN guys care for California. Joey Merlino used to come here quite a bit after he got out, but they say he only came to party and visit his sister. Isgro may be the only made guy who is doing something in LA. Donnie Shacks also lives here. Aside from golfing with James Caan and Joe Pesci I dont think he does anything else.

Is Shacks still acting underboss of the Colombos, or is that just dated info?

Id like to know where that information came from. I know what you're referring to but I haven't see any reliable sources. Mikey Franzese said recently that Junior has lost control of the family. Craig Marino's name has been tossed around quite a bit on these forums. Donnie, Mush, Petrizzo, those guys are dinosaurs. I cant imagine theyre still running the show. Maybe they still are but Id be surprised. Id love to hear some input on this.

Yeah, I just googled him. That mafia wiki site lists him as acting underboss, but of course anyone can submit info there.

Both San Francisco and San Jose are dead. I will speak on the bay area there are some members left alive in each of those two cities
Chicago and Genovese families have some influence on the docks, Lucchese family had a long construction interest from the 1950's up till Pat died in the mid 2000's. Bonanno family has some associates there, mainly through the Ditri brothers, but after Tony died, Dan retired but kept a few of his fronts for his kids, he is still in contact with a few members in New York. The Colombo family had Jimmy out there, but he died in 02' I believe, but Salvatore Profaci stays in contact with Stefano Cerrito, but both of them are retired, plus Steve was never made. The Gambino family had has maintained connections there, through Anastasia side, not Gambino side as many have believed. Detroit has a guy there, but he is retired. The Sicilians actually have people there, one of which is a Cerrito who is related to the Cerritos, but the most powerful group is the Calabrians, 6 or 7 members strong, core group, who are into loansharking, money laundering, narcotics and smuggling, even the Triad Dragons and the Russian mafia dont mess with them and that is saying a lot.

That acting underboss is blow out of portion, Shacks was invited in a few high level meetings, cause of the major busts at the time, but he is retired, however he still has a guy in Las Vegas who does handicaps, and the Colombo family gets a nice little profit from the action.
