Malta car bombs - 02/28/17 12:45 PM

Another car bomb. The explosion left Romeo Bone, 40, critically injured, losing both legs in the blast. Over the past years, several incidents have taken place which reminded many of similar situations in nearby Italy.

Maybe but i have doubts.

She was working on the Panama Papers Story, she uncovert a link between two Minister Konrad Mizzi and the Prime Minister’s chief of staff Keith Schembri and the Azerbaijan president Aliyeva -Clan. Maybe she know's more than that.

With the civil war in Libya we have also increasing Oil Smuggling acitvity. With a lot links to Malta.

Is there indigenous Maltese organized crime by the way ? I know that there were several Maltese racketeers and pimps who operated in early to mid twentieth century London , but I'm not aware of any bona fide Maltese OC groups .

There could be links to the Italians, but car bombs are not part of their MO when abroad neither are political murders.

sicilian mafia is also largely involved in oil smuggling from libya and malta is used as intermediate route
the order came from local politicians, probably the sicilians planned the murder

I'm sure there are some kind of international links, but it seems the Maltese underworld have created their own 'mafia', don't forget it's the 19th unsolved criminal car bombing in Malta since 2010.
Posted By: Nitro

Re: Malta car bombs - 12/05/17 10:28 AM

Maltese underworld are not new. Since 50's 60's guys from Malta are involved in London Redlight for example. Malta is a closed system if you are powerfull in daylight you have also connection into the Underworld. Alot people think only in these big groups, but every nation city have is owen dynamic and own group. Sometimes such groups get strong because to be used to controll buisniss or developments. (Think about russian OC groups).

If you think about OC you should never forget such social political developments.

South Europe have a hard time. I guess a lot legit people are involved in dirty work.

Two brothers who are key figures in the investigation.

Re: Malta car bombs - 12/08/17 11:27 AM

The brothers’ names popped up in court during the compilation of evidence against David Gatt, a former police inspector who had allegedly masterminded the foiled heist of HSBC’s Qormi headquarters back in 2010. Gatt, a freemason who co-founded the breakaway Grand Lodge of Malta, was acquitted of all charges related to the bank robbery earlier this year. Police sources say Gatt is not implicated in the murder so far.

Police ‘investigating’ suspected Italian mafia money launderer
Reports he planned to launder “billions” for mafia associates

An Italian national suspected of planning to launder “billions” for mafia associates is being investigated by the Financial Crimes Investigation Department, a police spokesman confirmed.

Roberto Recordare is the owner of two companies in Malta – Golem Malta Limited and Recordare Holding.

The two companies are ostensibly in the software business. Golem’s Italian website describes it as a software provider to local public administration entities in Sicily.

According to Italian media reports, wire taps captured Recordare speaking about his interests in Malta and mocking the death of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, days after she was killed by a car bomb in Bidnija, in October 2017.

Contacted by Times of Malta, a police spokesman confirmed an investigation was underway by the anti-money laundering unit but declined to provide further details.

Recordare told the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) that he only learned of the money-laundering allegations from Italian media reports.

He reportedly referred to the whole matter as a “farce”.

Wire taps captured Recordare mocking the death of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia

Reports say Italian investigators suspect Recordare was prepared to move some €36 billion on behalf of mafia clans as part of a wider €136 billion laundering scheme.

Re: Malta car bombs - 02/23/21 11:05 PM

One of three men accused of assassinating investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia in Malta in 2017 has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty.
Vincent Muscat admitted involvement on Tuesday in the car bombing that killed the reporter.
Many suspect it was ordered by top Malta establishment figures.
Muscat changed his plea on Tuesday in a dramatic turn of events and agreed to provide information about the murder. He must also pay €42,000 ($51,000; £36,300) in court expenses.
The two other defendants, brothers George and Alfred Degiorgio, who are also in their 50s, were also in the courtroom on Tuesday but did not speak.
Muscat reached a plea bargain with prosecutors in the case, offering up information about the killing and renouncing his right to appeal. The Degiorgio brothers have stuck to not guilty pleas.
