DeMeo and the Luccheses - 02/10/17 03:24 PM

In Murder Machine (page 130 in the paperback), it said that DeMeo passed on being made with the Luccheses. Anyone have any more info on this?

I dont think he passed it because he was by 1977 in with the Gambinos big time, but its the truth that he was first with the lucchese family. He switched to the Gambinos in 1966 when he met Gaggi.

Anthony Casso was aligned with the Genovese Family before switching to the Lucchese Family under Christy Tick Furnari.

Thanks Moe.. so are you saying that Casso knew or had dealings with DeMeo before? I heard somewhere that after DeMeo was removed, the Gemini Twins went under Casso's wing. Is that true?

I'm pretty sure I read that they had dealings, yeah.

Yeah, Senter and Testa got made into the Lucchese family shortly before going to prison.

Joey Testa's brother, Patty, was Vic Amuso's messaggero.

It was at Patty's house that Roy De Meo was killed, according to Philip Carlo's book about Gaspipe.

Solid info as always Moe, appreciate the insight...do you or anyone else know who specifically in the Lucchese's that Roy DeMeo was connected to before the Gambinos?

In Carlos book it said Demeo and Casso had good healthy business relations, with drugs if I remember. The Gambinos knew Gaspipe had the Twins in his pocket that's why they approached him to off Demeo and Patty Testa was very close with Amuso.

Re: DeMeo and the Luccheses - 02/11/17 01:07 AM

Roy was originally with a Lucchese mobster called mike the hammer Dellacagna. He was the guy who brought Roy around the Lukes. Roy was an asocciate of either the Vario crew (from the goodfellas) or the 19th hole crew( Amuso and casso crew in Bensonhurst). Those were the two Brooklyn Lucchese crews. In my opinion Mike the hammer was a soldier in the 19th crew, so that would make Roy an asocciate of that crew. The Vario crew was the strongest crew in 60s (East NY/Brownsville/Canarsie/South ozone park) all famillies considering.

I've read somewhere that where Demeo operated was Luke territory. They were heavy in the junkyards and scrap metal business in that area. Think I'm remembering that right.

Yeah, I remember reading that too.

As for who he was specifically connected to in that family, I can't remember.

Good looking kid, slight. He put the weight on pretty fast.

The Corrozzo's were in that area as well, and had some well known beefs with the Lukes.

Side note: what crew is Froggy Galione with? He just got out of prison and was an up and coming Luke from that area.

Costello's meeting with Genovese at Atlanta Penitentiary is mentioned in a couple of biographies of Costello: Uncle Frank by Leonard Katz; p232 and Prime minister of the underworld by George Wolf.

Re: DeMeo and the Luccheses - 02/12/17 05:11 PM

Costello was born in January 1891, Genovese November 1897 same as Luciano, so there was 6 or 7 years difference.

Gambino was born 1902, so around 9 years.

Adding to the list of guys whom were affiliated with other families prior to being made into another is, Sam DeCalvacante, the boss for the DeCalvacante crime Family. According to wiretap captured during one of his convos with Tony Boy Boiardo & Gyp De Carlo, DeCalvacante was initially supposed to be made in the Philadelphia Crime Family, when Joe Bruno was boss. What stopped in was Sams father who told Joe Bruno that "if anyone is going to be making my son, it'll be me."

Which makes me wonder whom Sam's father was, and if he was apart of the earlier LCN group that was in Jersey prior to the creation of the DeCalvacante family, he had to be someone linked and important to tell a boss off like that, yea its Philly, but regardless its a boss. But by the time Sam himself was made, the taps allude a DeCalvacante Crime Family, already being in existence at the time.

No problem. And theres a whole book dedicated to the DeCalvacante wiretaps entitled Sam The Plumber, by Henry A. Zeiger.

I found out Sam DeCalvacante's father, Francesco, was a capo in the Elizabeth Family, which went on to be known as The DeCalvacante Family. So my questions have been answered.
