Gerry and Gene Catena - 10/11/16 06:23 AM

Mentioning him in the other thread got me thinking, anyone shed some light on these twl legenxary wiseguys esp Gerry?

Was Gerry a capo for a while before he was upped to the admin? Was it Vito that named him UN from jail or prior to him bein locked up? Gene was only a skipper I believe but does anyone know of who was in either of their crews?

Side note but I mentioned it in the ofher thread, I heard that the owner of Catena car dealerships in North Jersey were related to Gery/Gene, any truth to that? Anyone know if Gery or Gene had any sons in the Genovese family? As always any insight is appreciated

There's a lot of good info on him in "In The Godfather Garden" by Richard Linnett.

I don't know for certain, but it seems like Gerry was a captain before becoming underboss. He was a player in the NJ underworld since the 20s, but was actually part of Longy Zwillman's organization and didn't become made in the Genovese family until the 40s. Genovese made him underboss prior to being locked up. According to Angelo DeCarlo, he was only made acting boss because of his involvement in Las Vegas casinos.

The NJ capos Catena directly oversaw were Richie the Boot, Anthony Provenzano, Gyp DeCarlo and Eugene Catena. Eugene's crew included John "Johnnie Coke" Lardiere, Thomas Pecora, Joseph Pecora and Edward Pecora. He was put in charge of gambling in Passaic County, the Port Newark area and Elizabeth union kickbacks. Apparently Eugene was rude, unpleasant and not a popular guy.

Mighty thanks for the response pal great info.. i didnt know Gene was disliked..i recall reading in the sam the plumber wiretap book that he dealt a lot with Gene Catena in joint gambling shit

So the members were part of Genes crew, any clue who was in Gerrys?

When you say Gerry oversaw those very powerful capos was that in his capacity as UN, or was he somehow like the Genovese boss of Jersey

I think it was like how Dellacroce was responsible for the "blue collar" faction of the Gambinos.
