Why did Gravano rat?

I know the fbi had all the wire taps. But they didnt have too much on him. If he didnt rat, would him, Gotti, and Frank Loc stand a chance. Did they have other witnesses or was it only those tapes? I also recall Gravano saying Gotti wanted him to take the call for it all.

-Sammy did not want to go jail
- saw that Gotti would either whack or demote him down the line EVEN if they beat the case
- the tapes buried them and he realised that along with Gotti pinning the motives on him (which was the truth anyway)

So all in all Sammy knew he was done for win or lose and the only way out was turn stoolie

He was caught on tape Yrs later talking to Fat Dom I think it, saying guys he liked- he would just bluff the Feds and say I don't know any info
on him

Sammy used Gotti's bad mouthing as an excuse. He would of turned if Gotti called him the best thing since macoroni. He never did any time and didnt want to spend the rest of his life in prison. He knew they were dead to rights and im sure the governement had much more on gravano than what we read in the papers, same with locascio. Although locascio should have only received 5-10 years not life.

Same goes for leonetti, he would of cooperated no matter what. He didnt want to spend all that time in prison. Prison is not a fun place no matter who you are with behind bars. In all the pics we see of mob guys in prison, smiling and hanging out with a bunch of guys,trust me, they are miserable but just making the best out of a really bad sutuation. Dont believe the smiles in those photo's..
Of course doing a short stint will make things much better.

Leonetti is the only cooperator who's story I believe. He didn't want his son to get involved in the life, the same way he got involved. He was already doing stuff for his cousin while Phil was in jail.

His son, Phillip jr., finished med school and is now a doctor. The other reason I believe him is that he hasn't been involved in a crime whatsoever since. Unless he's a criminal mastermind and gets away with everything, which I don't believe because like I said he's the only one who's story I truly believe..

Phil would have been passed around like a fifty cent hooker in the joint and he knew it. He would have ratted and used the same story even if he was facing 1/4 of the time.

And how he says he got out for his son bullshit. Had he not gotten busted you think he would have turned just out of the goodness of his heart to save his son? Yeah right. Had he not got caught he would still be at it on the streets and loving it. This guy is 100% full of shit no matter how you cut it.

It's no surprise he hasn't been busted for anything since they let the piece of shit keep like $3 million to start fresh with. Maybe he's just not as dumb as gravano who is a complete fucking moron.

Sammy, while booked in the MCC, talked to a prison shrink. Who diagnosed Sammy with a "pathological fear of prison time". Sammy would've ratted no matter what. The tapes and Gotti's idiotic remarks were just a good excuse and good justification for betraying everything he supposedly believed in.

Just my thoughts but Gravano was just a little bit more shrewd and always knew he could broker a deal with the Feds after he was pinched. He was able to play Tough Guy when he was free and walking around , and always knew he would be able to RAT if and when he was not able to beat the charges. I don't believe that he was ever a tough guy period ! For Christsakes he was a Friggin Hairstylist before he was made.

The guys in the street used to clown mike cetta (god rest the dead even though he wasn't my favorite human being) because he owned belleza and cut women's hair. They used to say, " he's no gangster ... He's a beautician." They used to mimick him too. Hilarious.
