Many seem to live quite affluent lifestyles with no evidence of being employed or being tax payers. Another statistic from the CSO puts close to 90% of travelling families in receipt of some form of state welfare.

It's disgusting how nobody has the balls to tackle them, especially considering that good work has been done to tackle other criminal gangs and organisations in the Irish State.

Signs are pointing that progress on a racketeering case involving some residents of Murphy Village likely won't move forward until at least July.

Greenville attorney James Price, who's representing James Carroll, one of 20 co-defendants indicted last year in the racketeering probe, filed a motion seeking an extension to reply to a presentencing report.

The motion asks for the deadline to be rescheduled for July 10, court documents state.

U.S. Judge J. Michelle Childs approved the motion Monday.

Several other motions seeking protection from court appearances have been filed in May and June as well, court records state.

Two co-defendants through their attorneys have also filed motions seeking permission to travel out of state to be with their spouses while they work. Both motions were approved, though the defendants are on standby to return to South Carolina if requested.

Kim Mulholland's motion was approved in May. She was scheduled to be out of state from June 2 to Aug. 1, according to court records.

Mary Gorman Carroll's motion was granted June 14. She's scheduled to be out of state through Aug. 20, documents show.

According to the indictments, the suspects fraudulently obtained money through various schemes involving insurance, Medicaid and the SNAP food program.

According to the indictments, several of the programs are intended for people of limited means, yet the suspects lived in lavish houses and drove expensive cars.

All 22 defendants have entered guilty pleas, but sentencing hasn't been set.
