Mobsters that refuse to be made - 08/25/16 07:58 AM

For all the 20°century to be made was a honor that no mobster could think to refuse. But after the 80s to be a made man means have a target on the head and risk more hard sentence respect an associate. So some men decided to say no.

I know.only Francis Guerra for the colombo and Frankie D'Alfonso for philly.
But for sure there are other that refused.

Guys with major books in South Philly like Frankie Flowers who was killed by Ligambi and Danny D'Ambrosia who had one of the larger books in South Philly for a long time probably could have been made if they wanted the heat and their pockets dipped into even more.

It's been noted that Bruno & Flowers were perfectly comfortable w/ this arrangement & their biz relationship was very lucrative.

My namesake, Henry, refused "that thing" for decades. He finally gave in when Michael took over and he had to oversee Youngstown.

in the movie "goodfellas" henry hill said being made to an aspiring Italian, was like being baptized, every low-level crook wanted to be made, I guessed things changed. in those days no one
would turn it down.

My Henry was from those days. More than anything else, he didn't want the extra heat. Pretty smart for a guy with only a sixth grade education.

Vinnie Teresa claims he didn't want to be made because he didn't want to have to follow orders all the time.

Joey Massino testified that he was offered membership in 1975 but turned it down, eventually accepting it later.

Buffalo NY "Super burglar" Frank D'Angelo once described by the NY State Police as the "Best" burglar in NY State. He was a HS acquaintance of mine. I was told by a buddy of his that he had been approached about becoming associated with the Buffalo mob but declined because he didn't want to share. He successfully pulled off some major burglaries. He did a robbery of a downtown jewelry store netting some $350,000 at least. The story goes that the mob demanded half and D'Angelo told them to fuck off. In 1973 while leaving a popular night club early in the AM with his hen girlfriend, as he approached his car, 3 masked men jumped out of the bushes and opened fire on him. He ran out to the middle of Hertel Ave but was dropped my multiple rounds. A noted homicide detective told me they know who did it (Mob) but hadn't gotten enough proof at that time but were still working with informants.

Re: Mobsters that refuse to be made - 08/28/16 05:11 PM

that guy big frank was one of the guys surposed to be inducted in 2011 but they capo anthony russo spotted a tail to the party. he then said something like if it happens it happens think he had to wait cause hes done a few streches for drugs and theres some type of 5 yrs waiting. the other guy who didnt refuse but declined i think theres a big differnce in the word play. fuck he probaly still had to kick up but doesnt need the court callinghim a soldier for organized crime in court. then in court they always say he took a oath to kill people for the mafia which the bosses should change that rule so the rats cant say it in court anymore. new rule is if we ask you to kill someone and you dont want to its ok will ask someone else but now you are in the dog house and have to give us more of your earnings sucker.

Flemmi is irish on the mother side. But Patriarca sr dont allowed to non full blooded to be made; for this reason Salemme was made only in the 80s.
Limone went to jail in 1965 and Zannino in 1986 thanks to bulger,so I doubt that refused many times.

Re: Mobsters that refuse to be made - 09/01/16 08:09 PM

Chicago Outfit Mobsters Frank and Nick Calabrese did not get made until 1983. That was because they did not want to be inducted until Angelo DiPitera convinced them to do so. I was surprised to read that because Frank embraced the Mafia lifestyle (I assumed that he was made long before that).

Joey O Masella of the Decavalcantes didn't want to be inducted either. Informant Ralph Guriano asked him and his response was that he just "didn't want it."

Another story I heard, can't verify it, is that Joseph Bonanno's brother also refused to be made. He entered the room where they were about to induct him, and reportedly saw a man there he did not like. He asked them if he was a member, and they confirmed he was. He said "well if he is a member I don't want to be made" and walked out of the room. The only reason his life was spared was because he was the brother of Joseph. But who knows if that really happened though.

I don't think he was ever officially offered, but Frank Cullotta said he wasn't interested in getting made.

Jimmy Nap didn't want to be made but eventually did in the late 70s because it would be better for him in prison.
