Searching for Richard Biello NYC gangster - 07/31/16 07:24 PM

This is obscure, but I don't know where else to turn. Beat poet Gregory Corso grew up in the Italian end of Greenwich Village and when he was very young he got sent to Clinton Prison for a petty robbery. There he quickly fell in with some veteran Italian mobsters who liked him and protected him. The chief of these guys was supposedly a capo named Richard Biello. All this would have been around 1947-1949 or so. I have looked around online and can't find any NYC gangster named Richard or Richie Biello. There was a fairly prominent member of the Luciano-Costello-Genovese family named JOHN (Giovanni) Biello, who later set up shop in Miami and was knocked off there in 1967. I am not sure if John Biello was ever a capo, but he would have been about the right age to be the kind of veteran member Corso described. According to what I've read online John Biello was arrested for robbery in 1944, but it does not say whether or not he did any time in Clinton or elsewhere for it. I would appreciate any help anyone can give. Thanks.

Thanks for the response, but the chronology doesn't work. Richard Bilello, your man, was born in 1930; Corso was born in the same year and wound up in Clinton at the age of only 18 or so. The "Richard Biello" Corso describes was considerably older than he was, a senior, veteran mobster. So I am still looking, but I appreciate the effort on your part.
