Detroit Question (re: Tony Pal) - 06/07/16 11:52 AM

So I'm reading James Buccellato's new book on the early IOC in Detroit. And a name I've read about before in the book about the Sicilian CN comes about, and that's Don Raffele Palizzolo. He was one of the earliest Mafia dons to settle in Detroit, and it got me thinking, Tony Palizzolo, whom supposedly is one of the top guys in the Detroit Mafia these days , has to be a part of his bloodline, which would mean he along with the Tocco's and the D'Anna's and others come from good stock, as they're ancestors were literally the first mafia bosses in Detroit. Am I right or am I off here?

Tonys second name is Palazzolo not Palizzolo I dont think they are related. His father was Salvatore "sammy pal" Palazzlo. His father was apparently a big drug dealer.

Nearly all of those guys had family members involved in the mob the tocos,D`annas, Giacalones the bommertios. Frank Bommertios father is Joseph "Joe Scarface" Bommarito another mobster who dates back to the beginning. Peter "gotti" Tocco jack Giacalones current driver his father was salvotre tocco. There was the Zerllis the vitales everyone was related

literally every mobster in that family today has a family relation who was involved in the mob its the only way to get made you have to have the right blood

Damn, you're right about it being Palazzolo and not Pal"I"zzolo . lol. That was a mistake on my part.

But the D'Annas ancestor was one of those whom wanted to bring Palizzolo to Detroit in the first place, a lot of those old Italian organizations didn't want him around due to his reputation back in Sicily as a mafioso. Apparently there was a meeting, and while the D'Anna whom was apparently prominent back in those days was vouching for Palizzolo coming to Detroit, a riot erupted involving those who didn't want him. The D'Anna had to be hurried out of the building as the crowd was going to kill him. Had that happened, we probably wouldn't of had the D'Annas of today.

Pretty sure that Frank Bommarito's father was not Joseph Scarface Bommarito. There are different Bommarito families in the Detroit area. Can't remember who his father was, but I'm like 95% sure that Scarface Bommarito was not Frank's father.

There were so many competing "dons" in the early 1900's in Detroit. Aside from the Giannolas and Adamos, there was Ferdinand Palma, who managed to have the job of a police detective before being indicted in a criminal scam of voter fraud and human trafficking. There was Francesco D'Anna and his brother Salvatore. Salvatore, and Francesco for that matter may have just been lieutenants of the Giannolas though. A Carlo Cacela was a Giannola street boss who operated in Detroit. Both the Giannolas & Adamos were based in Ford City which was actually outside of Detroit. And another supposed don was Joe Moceri, which may explain Leo "Lips" Moceri and his closeness to Detroit mobsters, he may have even been one, despite later settling in Cleveland with Licavoli, who has a bloodline dating all the way back to Detroit.

Possibly Dominic "Uncle Dom" Bommarito could be Frank's father?

I haven't posted in a while.

Frank the Bomb's dad was Tony Bommarito, a regular civilian first cousins with Scarface Joe, making Scarface Joe Frank's cousin. The Bomb & Uncle Dom Bommarito are also cousins. Dom's dad was a made guy named "Benny the Bomber" Bommarito.

Thank you for the clarification Scott. Do you know who "Benny the Bomber" was made under and when?

@gangsterreport - I had heard of Dominic retiring but thought he was in his late 90's with Frank being in his mid 70's, was just way off apparently.

Are there any younger Bommarito's in the life?

Uncle Dom is 80 or 81, Frank the Bomb is 86. Dom is pretty much retired, along with "Joe Hooks" Mirabile. Frank the Bomb isn't retired. Benny Bommarito was made in the 1930s by Joe Zerilli.

Frankie The Bomb may not be retired but isn't he pretty much on the outs with the Detroit mob?
