Did Mario De Stefano get made as a reward for being involved with whacking of his brother mad Sam?

I think he was already made. He died not long after Sam did.

I don't think mad Sam was made, that's why I wondered

The whole 'made' situation in Chicago is very confusing for me..

First they had no making ceremony, then they did (Aiuppa), then they apparently stopped again..

That Gerry DeNono fellow from the Crime Inc. docs said that being a made man in Chicago is more of a financial situation, in that you are allowed to a piece of the big pie..

But this is just him, so who knows really??

There are so many conflicting stories about guys who were made or not. Spilotro and this Mad Sam for instance.. And before Aiuppa allegedly started to hold making ceremonies it is absolutely impossible to know who was made and who was not I think, right??

They had a ceremony, it just wasn't as elaborate as the East Coast families, at least at certain times.

Mad Sam was recognized as a made guy in FBI documents.

Of course Sam was made, just like the rest of his old 42 cronies. Its an old myth he wasnt. Huge earner and really close to Ricca, interesting thing though, how he didnt last long after Ricca passed - as were the reality for the rest those Taylor Street guys.

During that period the Outfit was controlled by a ruling panel formed by Aiuppa, Alex and Accardo.

If Ricca made Sam, he must have been nuts or drunk at the moment. The guy was crazier than Casso, Kuklinski and Pitera put together. Why would the mafia need this kind of members? Even some serial killers have more self control than Mad Sam did.

Sam was a big earner only for what he really was. During the 1960's, in Chicago the organization has lost its prime operations such as bookmaking and the policy racket and the only racket which still brought large ammounts of cash was the juice lending and Sam was on top of it. But the problem was that during that "hot" period Sam was making things even worse by going publicly. Most of the guys of that era were very violent and psychotic. For example Sam Battaglia, the one time boss of the Outfit, had fist fights with cops on the open streets.

Why was Roy DeMeo inducted into the Gambino family? Huge earner.

Sure Sam was a loose canon, but that they could deal with as long as his juice rackets generated huge amounts of money. At the time of his passing though, with Ricca gone and with increasing pressure from the G - combined with sams increasing mental instability - he was considered a consumed resource.

Money was everything with these guys.

I was watching a documentary about Mad Sam. I just about pissed myself when the fbi agent who went to his house says Sam made him coffee. He later finds out Mad Sam pissed in it. Thats a fucking classic.

One prominent Chicago loan shark known as King Solomon aka Nenos Solomon who used to work as collector for the DeStefano brothers, said that Mario was more evil than his brother Sam. If that's true then god knows what Mario really looked like when he was nervous or angry at someone.

As additional info, here's DeStefano's loan sharking crew during the early 1960's...

Crew leader: Sam DeStefano

Members: Mario DeStefano, Pete Cappelletti, Tony Spilotro, Art Pascucci, Sam Gallo, Al Zaccagnini and Chuck Crimaldi.

There are also some indications that this crew was overseen by Charles Nicoletti.

Mario De Stefano was made before Sam was killed. Toodoped, your right sources say that Sam reported to Nicoletti, Fifi, and Mooney. Weren't the De Stefano's brought up under Fifi?

Yeah, that was FBI top man Bill Roemer. He never drank coffee again. According to his book Sam often wandered around the house with his penis hanging out the trousers when Roemer came to visit. One time Sam supposedly forced his wife to have sex with a black man he picked up in the streets. Nice fella.

irony?

I think Buccieri was in the team that took out "Action"?

Re: Mario De Stefano - 03/14/16 07:21 PM

Sam was an ungrateful scumbag for pissing in Roemer's coffee. Roemer was the FBI agent who (unfortunately) respected the mob or at least some of their leaders. He didn't even want to be on the team that arrested Murray Humphries because he respected him so much.

It is said that Sam killed his brother Michael in 1955, and I believe Mario was involved in that murder also. So, Mario may have killed two brothers for the Outfit.
