Presence of the Five Families outside NY and NJ - 03/11/16 02:23 AM

I would like to know what exactly is the presence of the Five Fams outside of New York and New Jersey..

I know there are crews in Florida, Massachusetts, California and Connecticut for example, but by which families and who are the men and what is the size of the respective crews??

The Bonannos once had a crew in Arizona, especially Tucson; the crew is largely defunct after Joe Bonanno's retirement in the 1970s. As far as Montreal goes, I still guess they have some degree of control over the Montreal Mafia.

The Gambino family once had a crew in Baltimore up until the 1990s. The Corbi brothers basically ran that faction with a size of approximately 10-12 made men and 50 associates.

If we're talking about crews based outside New York and New Jersey, that would be a short list.

You would have the Genovese crew in Springfield, which has been hit hard by indictments in recent years. Also their crew in Florida, which was busted back in 2006 and led to Ray Ruggiero flipping. That's assuming the crew is still active.

The Gambinos have the Artuso crew which is based in Florida. The Sciandra crew, which operates in Connecticut, isn't really based there.

For the Colombos, the Farese crew was based in Florida.

Can't think of any others. The NY families have crews that operate in areas outside New York and New Jersey but they're NY/NJ-based. You won't find any modern day crews, from NY or elsewhere, based in California or other states out west.

So guys like Joe Isgro of The Gambinos and that guy Donnie Shacks of The Colombos who operate in California, are solo operators Ivy, they don't have any men under them??

EDIT: Just read some stuff about Ralph DeLeo, former acting boss of the Colombos, that guy apparently was all over the place, even Arkansas LOL

Isgro is a soldier in the NY-based crew that was run by Joseph Giordano until the latter died in 2013. Donnie Shacks comes from the NY-based crew he used to run and is currently run by Joseph Amato. Shacks was semi-retired before he returned to NY to be acting underboss. Isgro has always been in California but never been a captain. He's simply a soldier of a NY crew and he happens to be active on the west coast. He's had associates under him but I suppose that wouldn't be a crew in the formal sense of the word.

DeLeo was an unique case and one of the few times even if would question the assertion that he was acting boss. He did fulfill certain functions of that position like attend high level meetings and making ceremonies. But he wasn't in a position to be what an acting boss does - run things day to day on the street in NY. His indictment basically showed him running his own small crew up in Boston. But that's gone now.

I think he means Southwest Connecticut. It's part of the greater NY metro area and it still has a fair amount of mob activity, specifically the Gambino and Genovese families.

The Colacurcio's was based in Seattle. They've been said to be established as its own family since the 50s but I think they were just a crew for the Bonannos until it got defunct in 2000. (wiki)

Personally I don't think the Colarcusios had anything to do with LCN in recent years. They just ran some strip clubs and such. Maybe there was a connection...at a time. Idk.

The Colacurcios were never LCN. They were Italian. And they were involved in illegal activities in an already sleazy business. And they brushed up a mob guy or two. But they were really just strip club owners in Seattle.
