That time Vito Rizzuto fled to Cuba in 2003

That time Vito Rizzuto fled to Cuba in 2003 - 02/28/16 03:47 PM

The French-language investigative TV program J.E. will be airing an episode today (Sunday) at 5:30 pm EST that will provide footage of an undercover operation in Cuba, which is where Rizzuto flew to the day after he was told either a) that Sal Vitale was going to flip and implicate him in crimes, or b) that Rizzuto's life was in danger, or c) both. The book Mafia inc. only described Rizzuto's being warned by the Gambino emissary sent by Massino that Vitale was going to flip. So I'm wondering now whether there was more to the meeting between Rizzuto and the emissary.

Very interesting, hope you keep us posted on this, as even with the ability to watch JE videos here in America, you cant understand the language and the subtitles are usually incredibly inaccurate.

Any new information revealed? Judging from the article translation, it says Rizzuto actually never met with Massino but was informed that Massino was going to flip and was about to confirm Rizzutos involvement in the murder. But Massino didn't officially flip until about 05. So I'm assuming they meant Vitale.

^^^^
I am going to take time this week to watch the episode again to see how much I understood or misunderstood upon the first viewing.

Assuming I understood the following accurately, what struck me as new information--or information different from what we had read in Mafia inc. or newspaper articles published after the book's publication in 2010--is a) how many people besides Rizzuto's wife accompanied him to Varadero; b) the contents of the safe in Rizzuto's hotel room in Varadero: $20,000 in cash, two (2) visas (American?); c) some brief footage of the area in Longueuil (Quebec) where Rizzuto met with someone from New York before Rizzuto left for Cuba.

The investigative journalist Félix Séguin already tweeted after the TV program aired that it mistakenly indicated the three-captains murder took place in the 1990s. I agree with you about the program's mistaking Massino for Vitale--see my first post in this thread.
