Crimes that prevent being made?

I just signed up for this site after lurking on here for a while, Im recently new to the mob scene and finished reading "Murder Machine" the other night.

I had a question regarding rules for being made. Are there any crimes that an associate committed in the past that can prevent him from being made? In Murder Machine in mentions how Demeo was engaged in dealing with kiddy porn, which is disgusting, and yet he still earns his button... I would have thought American LCN would have rules that if an associate commits a sex crime, particularly anything to do with kids, he would be banned from dealing with the LCN?

Demeo was made because was a wonderful earner and his crew was much feared.

Yeah that is somewhat true. But I've known guys involved with OC (not mafia though) who wouldn't want to associate with guys like Demeo who deal in child pornography or kill 19 year old girls. I would thought the Mafia would mostly be made up of criminals who still have some moral code.

Gaggi was furious when he found out that DeMeo was trafficking in child porn and threatened to kill him if he didn't stop. It's unclear if Castellano ever found out about DeMeo but Robert DiBernardo was investigated for his own involvement in the trade.

These are the only two examples I'm aware of. One can find an exception to just about every rule but I think there are things that would keep a guy from getting made. As a rule of thumb, I don't think a known pedophile is going to get made. Just like a known homosexual wont. There only being a couple examples of members dealing in child porn says the same thing for that. I also agree with Capeci that most mob guys wouldn't knowingly assist terrorists, even for profit.

Like I said, there will always be exceptions but I'm talking in general.

Trafficking 15yr olds for sex is pedophillia in my book Furio. The guys who would've used this poor thing weren't 16yr old boys keep in mind. They would've been dirty fucking 50,60 yr old men. It doesn't matter if she consented or not Furio. She's a child (as recognized by law) And by definition not fully capable of understanding the consequences of her actions. Whoever trafficked her is fully responsible for her actions, IE Orefice is responsible.

I looked up that 15 year old prostitution case, thats pretty shocking. Also read up about Christy Tick and Michael Mancuso. I remember reading somewhere that LCN had rules that you could never hit, kill, or rape a woman. Is that bullshit then or are these guys the exceptions?

Before my time, but I understand that back then, often if a young girl's parents knew the girl had had sex, consensual or not, they would go to the police to have the boy arrested for rape.So it's possible that it was a consenting girlfriend.
