Anthony Casso questions?

Anthony Casso questions? - 12/15/15 08:52 PM

#1 What specifically did he do/or lie about, that squashed his deal with the government?
Also: Was it ever stated what would have been the best case scenario, had he co-operated fully?

#2 How long was he actually on the run for?

#3 Why in the heck would he hide out at a home that has ANY connection to him at all? I don't doubt D'Arco knew about his mistress.

#4 Why didn't Vic shelve him the moment he decided to co-operate? He may very well be shelved now but, I have not seen source list him as being shelved.

#1 He lied about having a meeting with Gravano one time and even worse Gravano was being used by the feds as a star witness against Gotti, so the feds didn't want him undermining Gravano because of his star witness status.

He tried to inform the feds about two corrupt NYPD detectives without realizing the feds didn't want that out in the open.

#2 About 18 months.

#3 Because he is retarded.

#4 Shelve him? I think Vic wanted to kill him.

Casso says to fed that apart eppolito and caracappa he know a rouge fbi agent and in change of the proofs he want to go in the witsec. So the fed don't believe him about the agent but even if the FBI would make a deal, Casso was unpresentable the g men Call him Lucifer and will be his word against a fbi agent word.
For many people fbi cover-up the story after the devecchio scarpa affair or connolly bulger story. Who know ? Maybe the feds thinked that already had d arco and casso was useless and danger.

#3 The Feds found out where he was hiding through wiretapping his calls on public phones to Frank Lastorino, who was ferrying messages.

#4 Casso & Amuso allegedly met in a prison van shortly after Casso ratted and exchanged pleasantries. Amuso quipped about Casso having regretted ratting.

Re: Anthony Casso questions? - 12/16/15 07:19 PM

Casso didn't lie about meeting Gravano. The two did meet, there's surveillance photo of Casso & Amuso with Gotti & Gravano. What Casso said in reference to Gravano that killed his deal was that Gravano sold him drugs. Gravano told his handlers he never dealt in drugs, Casso saying he did would have made Gravano appear as unreliable and open the door for a chance at an appeal from Gotti. The feds didn't want their star witness to be undermined, so they called Casso a liar, and that among his continued criminal acts even while in prison, is why his deal was thrown out. Gravano only proved Casso right, years later.

Sinatra is probably right but I am going to play devil's advocate here.

With Gravano co-operating with the government and being forced to flee New York he left behind potentially millions of dollars in earnings from all the pies he had fingers in.

Is there not a slim possibility that he turned to drugs as an easy way of leveraging his infamy and making easy money while in Arizona, having grown frustrated with not being able to leverage his mob ties to make big bucks like he did when he associated with Cosa Nostra?

Also - would the Feds not have had a slam dunk with the tapes that incriminated Gotti?

Re: Anthony Casso questions? - 12/16/15 08:03 PM

no because gravano had millions when he got out of prison after flipping he got the movie deal and the book deal there is a documentary of his drug ring he ran once he got out of prison

he did not need to deal drugs he was living in a mansion he started dealing because he was bored he wanted to setup the "gravano family" he had better oppunitys to most who go into that program the guy is scum cant stand the guy 5 years for 19 murders. Even joe pistone admitted he thinks gravano was dealing drugs before he flipped

Re: Anthony Casso questions? - 12/16/15 10:48 PM

Did Casso deserve a deal ?? No, but the feds should be better then this...Just outright lying and double crossing people to get info is bs, and then they stick him in the toughest prison in the country because he complained about it ??

They weren't gonna give him a deal, besides what you guys correctly said about Gravano, he wanted a prosecutor and judge killed...

To say they ripped up the deal because he had cigars etc.. snuck in the jail is pathetic..The feds are no more honorable then these street punks, and their word means nothing !!

If he was with Issis or the black panthers and the feds reneged on their deal, he'd probably have a battery of liberal lawyers demanding his release as we speak, but he's not, so he gets life in the toughest prison !!

Even the casual layman can see that Casso is mentally deranged and would be a liability, whether on the stand or back on the street.

And it wasn't the Feds who f***ed over his family after he went to prison. That would have been his buddies extorting his wife (something they would've been too chickenshit to do if he was still on the street) and Burton Kaplan screwing him over on the rights to his mansion in Mill Basin.

Mobsters get it pretty good from the government IMO. Look at Joe Massino.

Gets to keep virtually all his money - not a cent of which was earned legally, and his wife/children don't have to worry about working an honest job; something which seems like an alien concept to them.

Less mobsters would rat to begin with if they would stick to their oath and take care of each others families when they go to the joint.

Re: Anthony Casso questions? - 12/17/15 09:06 PM

i think what the feds did to Casso was hilarious. made the guy think he could trust them and think he was gonna see the light of day again, only for them to turn around and bury him under the supermax. fuck em.

on the street, how many guys did casso do that to? maybe some had it coming, sure... but how many didnt? how many guys not only were brutally killed by him or on his orders but also had their life long reputations shit on, unrightfully being called rats because they had something casso wanted?

besides, even when you do cooperate they do tell you its not a guarenteed lower sentence.

but still... fuck em. i would have loved to have seen the look on his face when the feds said he was going to colorado and would never see new york again lol. besides he shouldnt even be mad. he had a hell of a run, made an unprescidented amount of money and never really did any time in jail his whole life up until the end

Re: Anthony Casso questions? - 12/18/15 09:05 PM

Bay Ridge baby!

#2 answer is NOT the Feds didn't wanna hear about 'the cops', it's that they didn't wanna hear about the FBI source Casso also claimed to have.

THAT is one of most interesting quetions re: Casso, Kaplan, Eppolito & Caracappa...

On the one hand, there's no evidence other than Casso, who's not exactly a fount of rectitude; on the other, Casso seems to have kept things fairly compartmentalized AND there are Feds working OC who have proven corruptible so...

Re: Anthony Casso questions? - 12/19/15 06:13 PM

As far as the Sammy-as-dope-dealer thing, did it ever really matter? Looking at the only transcripts I have of his testimony in the Gotti trial (The Gotti Tapes, which is admittedly abridged), he doesn't say anything under oath about dealing one way or the other (only that the administration didn't "ok" dealers, they just looked the other way).

I think Casso just lost it after the Gigante trial (which was really his only shot at a "Sammy deal").
