Pinging our Outfit historians with questions - 12/06/15 09:56 PM

A reader on another forum posed a question that you guys might be able to help with.

They are seeking information about a cousin that disappeared in the spring of '64.

That cousin (Emily Roberta Jordan) was investigated by the FBI for a counterfeit check scheme and apparently took it on the lam. The dates (Feb Mar 64) leads me to suspect it was the Joseph Spagnoli jr, Arthur Rachel case. It also involved a Secret Service agent named Bolden accused of selling info to the counterfeiters. Several attempts to get FOIA info from the feds have led nowhere for reasons ranging from it didn't exist, then it was lost, then it was found, but the items in it were misplaced, then they were destroyed.

What information exists is this:

The cousin worked for Warners Pontiac and was dating a connected guy by the name of Bruce A. Richards, possible nicknamed Hatchetface.
He worked for Nickey Chevrolet.
They hung out in a bar called Adorable Curvy, possibly frequented by Bottles Capone.

The couple lit out Feb-Mar '64 for Florida
Cousin gets a name change in Fla in '64, marries the boyfriend in Calif in Nov '66, then her trail goes cold.

Boyfriend gets nabbed, cops a plea and does a year around '65, changes name to John Ryan O'brien. Remarries later and eventually dies.

They have talked to the Boyfriend's brother and that is where the outfit info comes from, but the brother claims he never knew the cousin.

The FBI questioned the family about the cousin for years, but now claim she's not in their database.

They hold a FBI evidence tag marked 87-77977 K9 JK

If anyone knows anything about the names or places I've mentioned or whether the number on the tag holds special significance, or even has insight as to how to get around what appears to be stonewalling by the feds it would be appreciated.

The family got back to me and told me that they mis-remembered the name of the bar.

It was either shapery or shapely adorable and it was on Rush St. which was pretty much all mobbed up and lined with strip clubs and B-girl joints in the '60s.

Not sure. I think she just started going by her middle name, then eventually by marriage changed her last name to Richards.

I'll reach out to the family and try to find out

Birthdates, addresses, anything else like that would help, too.

Her name change was in Florida March 1964 TO Emily R Richards, and she used the last name of Moews as her maiden name, which was not her maiden name but her mothers

Another update;

A reader on the other forum wondered if the name of the club "Shapery Adorable" might be a mis-transcription of "Chez Paree"

I think he's right. A little research showed the girls in the chorus line at the Chez Paree were called "The Adorables"

"87" is the FBI offense classification for "Interstate Transportation of Stolen Property." The 77977 is probably the case number.

Re: Pinging our Outfit historians with questions - 12/07/15 10:29 PM

Yes, 87 is that FBI Offense. "JK" I believe is Jacksonville, Florida location and K9, I also think is the type of testing performed at the laboratory. The 77977 is the numbers or part in question. I do think it is the case number, however, upon many attempts to the FBI; no such file, lost file, located file, but documents misplaced or lost, to finally last correspondence was destroyed in 1990.

Does anyone else have an FBI laboratory tag from the 1960's? Far off question, but one never knows what they will find on the internet smile

Re: Pinging our Outfit historians with questions - 12/15/15 07:28 PM

I was told through a detective in a cold case unit out of Florida that the 87 is in fact Interstate Transportation of Stolen Property, K9 is DNA testing of a victim, meaning verifiable items, like photos, etc. Does not mean a "body" per say. 77977 is the case\file number as well. I'm going to stick to my translation that the JK is Jacksonville Florida, since I was right on every other item listed on the tag. Just an FYI to anyone following this story.
