Question about Cassos rise in the Lucchese fam - 06/23/15 04:33 AM

Ok can someone please clear this up for me...what is the exact timeline of Casso's rise in ranks in the Luccheses? It seems like every source has it different. Some say he was made in 75, some say 77, I've even heard 74..some say he was made underboss after Ducks went away, some say consig and the year he was made a captain is just all over the place. So can someone please clear this up for me? When was he made? When was he made a skipper and finally when was he eventually made UB and Consig? Thanx in advance guys and gals!

Yeah he skipped capo but went from soldier to Christy Tick's personal soldier so he was promoted before becoming consigliere

BS

If you think nobody was made you are naive.

If there were families that made people on the sneak (only supposed to replace dead members with a new guy) then I am sure there were people made during that period.

These guys dont stick to the "rules". Only when it is convenient for them.

Let me guess, the mob never dealt in narcotics either and everyone that did was killed? Dont believe the movies.

Believe what you want just trying to let you know the truth, they didnt go all those years with out making guys its a myth, they were keeping the famlies from expanding to keep the everything the same, when a made guy died they were able to replace, so there weren't a huge amount of guys made in this time but there were guys made, i know for a fact allie boy persico wasn't the only one, not everything you read is true

No I acctually want to belive, you just have to give me prof..Of course if you want, tell me this guy or that guy got made and I can take that.Telling me that you know the truth and that you know thigs for a fact does make you sound like prophet muhammad.
I have nothing againts you, apsolutly nothing, dont even know you.All the reserchers on all the forums at least the good ones like HK,said not so manny guys were made until 76...so you get my question asking.
Once again nothing against you

Me an hairy debated this alot. We got fish cafaro and George barone both westside saying they got made in 74. I think tumac said 74to. We're we got casso in 74 idk. Maybe he said when he testified against some Jewish guy in isreal. Then the great Mike frasese saying Halloween 75 and I think Greg scarpa Jr 75. That's it tom Brady verdict any min.

Now IDK how reliable the doc "Manhatten Mob Rampage" is, but its worth noting that in the doc, the narrator said, that Buddy Luongo, the favorite for next boss until being gunned down. It also says, CAPOS Anthnoy Casso and Vic Amuso were powerful skippers in the fam and were being considered for boss. Thanx again for the feedback!

Re: Question about Cassos rise in the Lucchese fam - 06/23/15 08:47 PM

Nobody was made in NY when the books were closed. Alex is right. The first recruits were made in early 1976. Both Casso and Franzese were wrong on their years of induction. They simply remembered it wrong. Casso perhaps even lied to Carlo or Carlo made it up when he wrote the book. Dead members were replaced when the books were opened (in 1976). Before that, the NY Mafia was way down in size because the books were closed since the late 1950s. Don´t rely on Mafia documentaries for this kind of stuff.

Re: Question about Cassos rise in the Lucchese fam - 06/23/15 09:06 PM

The books opened in 76 but Casso was made the following year in 77. The same year Gotti and other contemporaries were made. 74 is not accurate.

Well,in the Franzese doc I posted above, he says Halloween 75 (a date a wiseguy whos being made would ever forget)...Also, a few mins before he said that in the doc,he said he knew his time was coming because other guys were starting to get made.

i thought they closed them after appalachian and opened them up in the mid/late 70s. like 77 officially? but there had to have been a ton of guys made on the low inbetween. i dont see how the whole 1960s goes by without anyone getting made. but they seemed like they were officially closed for 20 years. which is a pretty good length of a trial period for any guys who were young during the early 60s and needed to prove themselves

Buster ardito was caught on tape saying he was made in 58 before they let all the rats in. The prosecution used this to show the judge he's gave almost his whole life to crime.

You have to be open for the possibility that these guys were sometimes wrong. If we take a look at what Vinny Cafaro for example said, when he said that he was made in 1974 in a ceremony at Il Cortile Restaurant on Mulberry Street...well it turns out that the restaurant did not exist in 1974 but opened later (in 1976 or 1975...can´t remember...you can google it). In the case of Franzese, he says that when he was made, he was put with Andy Russo, his skipper. But documents show that Russo was made in 1976 and was made a captain in 1977. So he could impossibly have been a skipper in 1975. Are you following me?

Well, I can´t see a reason for him to lie about it. It´s an honest mistake from his part, that´s what it is.

Re: Question about Cassos rise in the Lucchese fam - 06/25/15 09:38 AM

Maybe he wanted for everybody to think that he was made before Don Carlo died.
What I would like to know is did they or why didnt they send guys they wanted made to Philidephia or new englend and than just bring them back?DId they do that?
Late 60s early 70s

Jimmy Brown was made in the 50's. Nino apparently in 1960 but not sure how true it is.

Thanx again for all the input..HairyKnuckles, TommyGambino, alexandarns, pmac and all others who responded. Like mickey2 said "nobody forgets his iduction date. Even before Franzese says the date, he says "obviously a date ill never forget, Halloween night 1975" Maybe his dads clout had something to do with him being made so early and all the $$$ he was making didnt hurt. but then again maybe he did get the year wrong who the hell knos.

John Gotti was an acting capo BEFORE he got made.

I'm not jumping into this debate, I'm just saying it is possible Russo was an acting skipper before he got made. Note: possible....not very likely but certainly not impossible...Capisce?

If possile, could you show me the doc's that say Russo was made in 76'? Not doubting you at all, just curious cause on Mafia Wiki (I know, probably as credible as if "IMAMOBGUY" said it lol),says that he was made acting underboss for a few years in 73. Thanks Hairy!

Re: Question about Cassos rise in the Lucchese fam - 06/27/15 11:15 PM

Explain how a guy like Joe Butch Corrao who was born in 1936 was a capo of a large crew by the 1970's? Was he made at 21 years of age or was he made in 1977 and immediately took over a powerful Manhattan crew when there were so many other capable guys?

How about Tommy Bilotti who was born in 1940? Was he made by 1957? If not, then he was made in 1977 and immediately became a trusted confidante of Castellano and underboss by 1985?

Joe Butch was made in the first ceremony for the Gambino's after the books re-opened in 76, he took over his father Vincent's crew not long after.

There's an article online, think it was early 60's (HairyKnuckles will know) where an informant said Joe Butch was close to being made before the commission closed the books.

Joe Butch is probably one of the more underrated powerhouses within the Gambino family throughout the 80's and 90's, very powerful.

As for Bilotti, now way he was made at 17, more likely made in 76/77
