Best mafia news sites - 05/16/15 11:20 AM

Besides books, where do you guys get your info from? Besides a couple mob news sites that pop up on Google search front page, I don't have many sources. I come here for most of my mob news. Any good sources I should be looking at?

The one below is a good one that is consistently kept up to date

Some other blogs -

http://www.cosanostranews.com/
http://gangsterreport.com/
http://breakshotblog.blogspot.com/

Something else you can do is create a Google news alert based on certain words or phrases like "Mafia," "crime family," "organized crime," etc.

Something I also do is check the prosecutor websites of various cities.

Absolutely second bitterqueen. Bitterqueen has some very cool coverage of interaction between the mob and the gay community that you're not going to find anywhere else. It's cool to see someone with a unique interest put a lot of quality material out that nobody else bothered to dig for.

A word on gangster report, scott is an amazing writer and one of the only writers who can bring a dull mob story to life for the reader. He can keep you on the edge of your seat for a full hour covering the smaldone family but IMHO will exaggerate from time to time the level of activity of different mob families. Still read it all the time though and have no other complaints.

Bitter queen doesn't focus all on gay stuff do they? I skimmed thru and saw a lot of gay stories. It's a cool thing to know about but I gotta read about other stuff. I did see a good amount of articles without the gay thing. With a name like bitter queen what can I expect....

Gangstersinc I always check out weekly.

I'd have to say for old time stuff

And that bitterqueen guy was on another forum I used to go on. He is very anti-mafia, almost anti-Italian because he allegedly had some trouble with some mob guy. Also, he had such a hang up with some story about Sally Burns. He beat that story to death on the forum.

**** obsessed with gangsters. That's hysterical.

Quick, absolute true story: It's no secret that most mob guys are homophobes. And Vince Gigante was no different. Now, the Village has been gay for over fifty years (although they're starting to get priced out now).

Cut to the chase, you never saw a ***** on Sullivan Street, between Bleecker and West Third. Ever. And that's the heart of the Village, mind you. But it's also where the Triangle was located. He also had a thing about **** walking by Saint Anthony's on Houston and Sullivan. He thought it was blasphemous, which is hysterical considering how many people he sent to the great beyond lol.

True story.

She's crazy. One day she was straight, the next day she was part of the Lower East Side punk scene, and the day after that she was a ****. And a fortune teller. And a medium.

It would be some funny shit if she really was in touch with the spirit world, and she relayed Vince's orders to Barney and Ernie lol.

Re: Best mafia news sites - 05/19/15 07:05 AM

PB, did Vince ever have run ins with some hyper pro-gay group or people where he had to prove to them that this is what is going to happen in my area? Or did the word just get out to everyone, this is who runs this area and this is what goes on right here? Today being so PC everywhere wonder if this would be able to go down without some group making a hate crime complaint or something.

The Village has always had its share of weirdos, artsy-fartsy types, and queers. But even having said that, it's changed so much since '97 (the year that Vince went inside never to return), that if he was alive and was released today, the neighborhood would be as foreign to him as Libya.

Real estate is my life today, and you follow my posts like a gentleman, so you've probably seen me post that I pay close attention to demographics. And I am COMPLETELY convinced that, even with the combination of Italian American assimilation, gentrification, and the sissy hipster invasion, that if Gotti and Gigante didn't go inside to die, that parts of lower Manhattan would still be somewhat unchanged.

I also believe that the FBI's assault on those downtown areas had as much to do with them being in bed with the real estate lobby as it did with putting gangsters away. But I can be pretty cynical at times, so maybe I'm going crazy in addition to being a cynic.

Re: Best mafia news sites - 05/19/15 07:53 AM

Its always about the money, so like you stated the astronomical rise of real estate in that area could be spot on with a relationship between the lobbyists and the feds. I have a buddy who lives and works in the Village, he is a just good dude whos is a bartender, who loves that area of NY.

Thanks for that info I like history stuff like that, you will not get from anywhere else except someone who lived it thanks, and to gigante that just goes to his power......I am not a big PC person in many aspects of society but never went to NYC until the Giuliani days so, would have liked to seen NYC before that time. Thanks for the info
