How many gunmen can the mob actually muster?

How many gunmen can the mob actually muster? - 03/12/15 04:21 PM

I have recently been reading about some murders in LCN in which high ranking members are the ones who carry out the hits. For example, Frank Lastorino and Sonny Red Indelicato, both captains in their respective families carried out murders despite their position and value in their organization.

It makes me wonder why captains would carry out their hits when soliders and associates are the ones who supposed to being the dirty work, why would they risk life imprisonment if they could get underlings to do the hits for them? The only conclusion I can come to is that the mafia really doesn't have that much muscle and that they are short on guys who are able to commit murder, am I correct?

Could go back to the old saying my dad constantly says, if you want something done right you do it yourself.

Because most of them like to kill makes them feel more alive after a hit smile

Even today the mob has more muscle than they'll ever need, simply because they don't need to be dropping bodies left and right. They trade largely on their reputation and the threat of violence. And there have been enough murders in recent years to show the mob hasn't forgotten how to kill. It's simply an occasional murder here and there. They don't need an army waiting to go to war.

Well said , There are plenty of shooters out there but even more surveillance, and cameras, phones that a hit" has to be perfect down to the very last detail .You can't just grab 3 hot cars now and do a hit ,that car has video of it getting fuel in it 5 days before and the people that were in it and every toll it has seen in 5 years. The world is a very different place to do crimes like the past.

Thanks for the responses. Although it is quite an amateur question, I am just curious as I am surprised that families, such as the Bonnanos and Lucchese's that have over 100+ made men and 500-1000 associates, would need to rely on captains to carry out hits.
