Vinny Basciano!

Vinny Basciano! - 02/10/15 01:59 PM

Whats the full story on this guy? Nobody knows for sure when he was made, early 90s? He had been an associate for the bonnannos since his late teens and was big trins driver!

According to Gotti jnr he first met Vinny in prison in 2005 and had never met him or knew much about him when they were on the street! So he must of been pretty low profile! It appears his ego went sky high after massino was jailed and started to restructure the family and order hits without the consent of the 3 capo panel!

According to Massino, basciano became so flamboyant and cocky, the Geneovese people asked permission to clip him!

Also,Vinny called everybody Bo! Hey Bo, how ya doin! This is what Gravano, called everybody too! Bo! Is this a bronx/brooklyn thing?

Try the search feature, Calcestruzzo. Vinny has been discussed here ad nauseam over the years. And most of it is just nonsense and regurgitated lies from Dom Cicale and his puppet master.

And to the longtime members, everyone knows where I stand on this topic. I really don't need the agita today. Just a few personal issues wink shhh.

Re: Vinny Basciano! - 02/10/15 06:14 PM

Basciano is another example of a guy with good leadership skills. He was also pretty street wise.
He was basically a true gangster and earned like a gangster. Unlike someone like Alite who basically bullied weak guys and stole their drugs. ( not that gangsters dont steal).
Basciano was an interesting guy. In an excerpt from his book, he was pinched for heroin( i think) in the late 80's or early 90's. Took it to trial and won a fed case which is very rare. During breaks in the trial, he would get coffee in the court house cafeteria and give $100 tips while on trial. I thought that was kind of funny.
How could you not like the guy ????? Unless of course he killed someone you knew.

Didn't his dope have stamps on it like "Goodfellas" and/or "Godfather?"

Anyone ever try it? If so how was it?

Re: Vinny Basciano! - 02/10/15 07:26 PM

Dom that's a good fact. So Vinny was made in 1990 when gotti was at his end and peak of his power. Read boby lino was the shooter of the kid in his car thinking he was going to his induction ceremony. He accidentally shot a gambinos guys kid. So think anthony spero was acting with sal vitales help. Must have been the greatest year 90 in Vinny life.

Re: Vinny Basciano! - 02/10/15 07:29 PM

Bob lino shot the kid January 1990 probaly got his button very soon after or maybe rite after killing that guy. Am I wrong that's the guy who thought he was gonna get made but gotti wanted him dead cause he fucked up. Making the bonannos kill one of there up n comers was such a gotti move just showing whose boss.

Beating that case was an absolute miracle. He said goodbye to his wife, kids and friends the night before it was over. No one was more surprised than he was when he beat it.

This was around '94 because it was when he just moved back to Throggs Neck after a year or so in Westchester. So he was basically playing with house money for ten years (he was indicted for the murders in '04, and surely would have gotten twenty on the heroin case if he didn't beat it).

Not remotely. Vinny made more in the '80s. He had everything from video stores to sandwich shops to bars to his social club all along Tremont. From Westchester Square all the way up to the Marina del Rey. That's a lot of ground.

His bad luck started when he got the button. It usually does. That's why it's such a catch-22, especially these days.

Re: Vinny Basciano! - 02/10/15 08:02 PM

But 1990 that when chins under indictment and gottis realy growing his dick around. He was probaly saying no to a lot of guys that year. The cantrealla guy I think was family tony mirra Joe damico and a few others little Italy's guys and links uncles are all made and close with gotti so I'm guessing some one in the Bronx made a good pitch to gotti in the ravenite or maybe a friend of locascio.

Re: Vinny Basciano! - 02/10/15 08:02 PM

I do know that in certain family's that getting that button is a curse. And these guys never think it is going to go bad just cos of it.
Most of the time it is the guys that have there button(same family) or wants it that brings them down...

There was also some talk that they mightve gotten to a juror, any truth to that you think? Them outright beating the case just sounds to good to be true. But on the other hand feds seemed to have had a hard time directly tying Basciano to the Heroin and i guess crazier things have happened.

You're guessing wrong. Vinny's best friend outside the Bonanno's was Prisco. And if anything, it was the Westside who helped him move along the Bonanno ranks faster. And in hindsight, Vinny should have stuck it out and waited for his button with them instead. Prisco could have easily pried him away from Fat Patty and gotten him his button a year or so later. But Vinny didn't want to wait.

Those are facts, pmac. That's not Google or books. I like you. You're a nice kid. So please don't take my post the wrong way. But as you know, Vinny is a very touchy subject with me smile.

No serp.on phone write now phone auto corrects if I don't proof ride shit comes out weird. Throwing his dick around like throwing his weight around same thing. He made the decav family do hits for the gambinos. He tried to tell Vic oreana to tell carmine persico he's done. Started putting stanfa boss of philly same as up boston-providence. He was wrestling chins control of other families if you really take a look. No pizza I dont give a shit I like to read. But gotti n gravano looking at inductions lists in 1990 they were trying to take over. Bruins are getting there ass wipt. Tyler seguin revenge.

Pizza you have a guess who Vinny capo was in 1990 think I read fat patty came one a little later after massino came home. Any bb book readers that book about massimo is a must read great book basically the same author put won out on Vinny good to just not snuff details. Vinny's brother in-law/underboss for a 100years didn't flip on him and 100 other guys to fill his book.

Yes, they tried. But how'd that work out for them?

My humble opinion: If Gotti was on the street for another year or two, Chin succeeds in killing him, installs Jimmy and Danny with the Gambinos, backs the Bronx/Harlem faction of the Luccheses, and has 60 percent of the Commission, lock, stock and barrel.

But fate wasn't too kind to Vince, either. So don't think I'm blind to any of that.

That's true. Massino didn't beef up the Bronx crew until he came home.

Patty was the first official Bonanno skipper here in years. Because the Bronx was always dominated by the Genovese, Lucchese and Gambino families. The Colombos have always been non-existent here, except for a very informal partnership between Greg DePalma and Richie Fusco, who are both dead now anyway.

Long story short, Vinny's first skipper was an old Knickerbocker guy. Take from that what you will wink.

I know "Blue Thunder" was the name brand that got the most attention and gave the case it's name but I could swear I read somewhere some had stamps like "Goodfellas."

I mean obviously there were multiple stamps, a conspiracy that big and long running would have had dozens I would imagine.

http://www.nytimes.com/1991/02/08/nyregion/at-the-fast-turning-hub-of-the-heroin-trade.html

"In a drive through the South Bronx, Ms. Cruz and the man she lives with, Clarence Dubois, a 25-year-old former crack dealer, pointed out spots where heroin called "Blue Thunder," "God Father," and "Good Fella" were being sold. The police say some packets of "Good Fella" were also found to contain fentanyl. "

I thought I read it in a book for some reason but this is the one source I could find right now. This article is from 1991...heroin stamp artists tend to be quite topical.

Re: Vinny Basciano! - 02/10/15 11:23 PM

And Basicano, he always had an ego, before Massino went to prison and after. He was like a poor man's John Gotti, but a bit smarter. It wasn't to be flashy or cocky that he changed up the admission after he became acting boss. He had no choice, the rest of the admin had all turned rat. He had to replace them with guys he trusted, which were men he was close to. That's why he bumped down Tartaglione after suspicions of him being a rat, after coming back from Florida all of a sudden. And it hurt him also because Tartaglione had already decided to begin recording before than.

Throggs Neck is a small, tight knit area, and they were both based in Westchester Square at one time (although Angelo lived in Yonkers for many years while his kids were growing up).

But Angelo loved it here. He threw a huge spring dance every year at the Marina del Rey. Harder ticket than opening day at Yankee Stadium lol.

Vinny and Angelo hit it off. Simple as that. And Angelo had the pull to sit down and trade for Vinny. No doubt in my mind. But Vinny was a young guy at the time, and he wanted his button yesterday. Can't blame him (if that's your life's ambition, anyway). But I'll bet he wishes he waited now. He'd more than likely be a Westside skipper today. But now I'm going off track, sooooo wink.

Vinny inherited that mutt. But you're not far off base with the rest of your post.

Vinny's big sin was Cicale. Plain and simple. Vinny had a good heart (for a mob guy, I have no illusions about what he was capable of), and he was forever adopting strays.

Forget Massino and the jailhouse tapes. If it wasn't for that lying, murderous, scumbag Cicale, there's a 50/50 chance that Vinny's watching television on Revere Avenue right now.

Cicale has more bodies on him than Vinny. Just like Sammy had more bodies on him than Gotti. And there's something fundamentally wrong with giving deals to guys who have killed more people than the guys they're putting away.

And don't get me wrong, the world needs law and order. But put them away fair and square.

No. But Ruffles didn't last very long anyway. St. Frances de Chantal was instrumental in getting it shut down. It went right back to being the Silver Edge after that. It's a small supermarket now.

But Vinny's beauty parlor was right next door years later. That's a party/wedding favor store now. Tosca has most of that corner now. And Amerigo's was a square Mom and Pop joint for fifty years. It's a hobby store next to a Radio Shack today.

The club that was adjacent to Gerry Sciascia's jewelry store? That was his, by the way. I honestly don't recall the name. But it might come back to me.

I tend to not become actively involved in topics on the American mafia -which is kinda ironic of course since the board is all about the American mob- it's just because I don't have anything additional to offer. I'm not from the US, let alone New York, so topics like these I mostly just read out of curiosity and interest. But on Basciano everything I've read and personally believed, on this board and in other sources, can only lead to my conclusion that he really is a stand up guy.

Which makes it all the more painful to read some of the more absurd claims and fictious stories that make their way across the internet, which is able to introduce you to some good information but which also makes it possible for just as many people with hidden agendas to bomb you with their crock of shit. Because from what I've read Basciano was well respected, and not only among Cosa Nostra circles. And I know we're talking about gangsters, but being well respected still is a testament of someone's character.

And Massino's claims... A lot of them, to me, seem dodgy.

Of course. I've never sugarcoated that part of the man's life. You kill people, you go to jail. You play, you pay, and all that. But Cicale is a much worse human being than Vinny ever was. We were neighbors here in Throggs Neck for years. His boys grew up with my daughters (and I make no excuses for his boys' decisions either).

I'm back in the Bronx on property business for a few days. Check my ip thing, see if I'm not posting from less than a hundred yards from where Vinny lived with his family back then (not that I have anything to prove).

Yes, Vinny's a criminal. But there are far worse people who the government has gleefully given get-out-of-jail-free cards. And Cicale is one of the worst. He's the scum of the earth, born to White Trash, and that's just how he'll die. Hopefully in the fucking street like some of his victims.

Things are seldom black and white. Of course there are some plain lowlives around, but there are also many people who make bad choices in life that also have more than one good side to them.

As for Cicale, I don't have the right to call him out for being a rat. But what I do find despicable is that he seems to be one of those typical guys that keeps badmouthing and keeps inventing fictious stories, even long after the trial is done, to use that for his own succes.
