Good mafia book I haven't read yet? I know thus isn't the tight space on the forum but I'm heading to the bookstore in like an hour! I have read murder machine, underboss, brutal, blood and honor, black mass and a couple other Boston books. Is "I heard you paint houses" worth the read? What about the al d arco one? Anything on Canada?

Deal with the Devil about Scarpa? In the Godfather's Garden about Richie the Boot?
You probably have read Wiseguy which Goodfellas is based on or the original Donnie Brasco, I'm guessing.

Thanks I will give the scarpa book a try if they have it. Not interested in wiseguy because I know the ins and outs already. Thanks though. Anybody know if the 6th family is worth it? I think they want like $40 for that lol

Re: Can someone recommend me a?... - 12/02/14 06:45 PM

Wiseguy is still worth a read regardless... it's the little details that make it so engaging. True that most of it is portrayed in Goodfellas but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

6th family is like 10$ on amazon, no idea where you got 40$ from... maybe it varies from place to place.

The Scarpa book has a little too much FBI stuff, imo... I'm barely halfway and I'll continue it some other time, those documents get a little boring.

"I heard you paint houses" is a great read. another good read is "the quite don" a story about Russell buffalino.
and the best one is "five families" by Selwyn raab.

another is "joey" a story of joey gallo, the authors name is goddard. [can't think of his first name.] great read.

The First Family is a really great book if you want to find out about the Morello gang.

Maybe this is obvious, but the Joe Bonanno biography is very informative when you determine what is true and what is not.

To me the Gotti Tapes was an informative book because you can hear the guys on it.

Looking forward to Desperado, saw all cocaine cowboys stuff, very intriguing shit. Blood and Honor IMO is one of the best reads concerning LCN because it really shows you the inherent problems with tying to govern crime wih rules and traditions. The treachery is so real I felt like I was there. caramandi was a sleeze bag for sure but he is not holding anything back or self serving (Leonetti, etc). Pretty much as good as it will ever get for info on that era.

Joe Bonanno always seemed like such a jerk off to me, I probably have slept on his book, maybe I should give it a shot. He allways struck me as like a regal version of Feech from the Sopranos, the type of guy that would really enjoy the smell of one of his farts, but I digress...I'm like 50 pages into Vinny Gorgeous, which is great!

Haha he was without a doubt a jerk off. And he is absolutely convinced that he's not. Still I think it's one of those books that you can't pass by if you "study" the subject.

Vincent bascianos book is shite , they could have made it 2 chapters long and put it in king of godfathers the book about massino

Re: Can someone recommend me a?... - 12/03/14 01:07 PM

Im enjoying it. It's obviously not like a long, deep, challenging read but it's decent. I will check out the king of godfathers book for sure.

The way Henry Borelli was portrayed in American Desperado is far more disturbing than what you read about him in Murder Machine, and that's saying something.

It's disturbing because it's believable, from Jons genuine perspective you can really get a sense of how much of sick low life Borelli was.
