Philly question/Scarfo era?

Philly question/Scarfo era? - 10/09/14 09:32 PM

When Scarfo became boss, didn't he agree to align himself and, the philly mob, with the Genovese family and no longer the Gambinos?

Or am I getting this wrong and the only agreement that Scarfo made with Manna was, the Genovese could always count on Phillys voting support when issues went before the commission?

Reason I am asking is, I read that when Scarfo's power was fading and he was in prison, it was the Gambinos who appointed John Stanfa and not the Genovese.

Wasn't Gigante the default boss of bosses at that time?

Hmmmmm! Maybe Gotti said, "Sorry Vincent(not even touching his chin), Philly was always under our influence BUT, if you wanna settle it in the trenches, let's dance!"

Think after manna was convicted for trying to kill gotti well he was still on the street gotti was pissed. And wanted to take over jersey starting with the decavs small family then getting the cherry hill gambinos to find a boss for the philly family.stanfa. gotti would have took new jersey over but ran out of time. With chin and amuso he didn't have a chance after he was locked up. I wonder if amuso really hated gotti or was just a puppet for chin or was really about the you can't kill a boss rule

Just spec. But in 1990 with manna and scarf out the picture gotti had a good chance amuso and chin were under indictment for the windows with johns brother peter who beat the charge but gotti had a whole decav family doing hits for him and going weekly to his club that guy john damato. But the westside had corcky v.. that's when all amuso luchese guys were going to jail gotti tried to take over nj I think and failed but tried.

Gotti would have never been able to take over Jersey , the Genovese and lucchese families were both stronger than the gambinos in Jersey , even today the Genovese have 4 or 5 crews active there , not a chance that would have happened

Your not wrong but I would say only half right because the Luchesse's were pretty strong in jersey.

Gambinos were strong in NJ too with the Cherry Hill Gambinos, Bobby Cabert, Tony C, Michael Mandaglio

Christy tic, thank you, ive been told I was half right or downright wrong. karonai you bet he was. a lot more powerful than we know, his father was at the top in the 20s and 30s, and Richie was a boss also.

Scarfo was backed by the Genovese family, while Stanfa was backed by the Gambino family when Scarfo went away. It really was a cold war between John Gotti and Vincent Gigante with Philly right in the middle of it. As for the question of power in New Jersey, it would go like this, Genovese, Lucchese, Philadelphia, Elizabeth, Gambino, Bonanno, and then Colombo, but it also depends on what era we are talking about, but the Genovese crime family has always remaind the dominate family in Jersey.

Very strong in New Jersey especially when tumac accetturo and the taccetta bros ( mike and Martin ) were running things down there.
