Drugs and the Italians - 07/18/14 01:20 AM

Can the Italian mafia continue to survive as it has a hold in the drugs racket? Is it possible to say that drugs will cripple them indefinetly?

Are you talking about Italy or America?

They're all in dope, and they have been since day one. There's a ton of money in high grade weed right now, and they're not passing that up. But the sentences are pretty stiff if you're a mob guy.

Sally Larca just got almost nine years in an Interstate weed case, and that was a plea bargain. If he was a 19 year old Dominican kid from Burnside Avenue, he probably would have gotten a year and a day.

To be fair that case did involve trafficking 40,000 pounds of weed whistle

If anything, why the mob hasn't been crippled by drugs is because it isn't dependent solely on the drug trade. The mob, especially the NY families, is diversified and have other sources of income; both legit and illegitimate.

Re: Drugs and the Italians - 07/18/14 05:24 PM

From a percentage standpoint the mob isn't as dominate as it was up until the 80s with Mexicans and Dominicans brining in a lot more dope these days but there are still wise guys out there moving a lot of weight . They still have a lot of connections to big suppliers in Italy and Canada .

Nobody really talks about the Dominicans but they move a shit load of dope today, probably right behind the Mexicans .

I hear you, DB. And I'm sure that applies to Jersey. But the Dominicans have had Washington Heights all to themselves for the past thirty years. And they've had the market cornered on cocaine for most of that time. I'm not sure about heroin, though.

Are there many Mexican criminals active in New York? I always saw the East Coast for being more of a Dominican, Puerto Rican, Colombian, Cuban territory

Loads.

South Yonkers, which is just north of the Bronx, is estimated to be home to more illegal Mexicans that any American city Northwest of Texas.

Jezus Christ. I hate to say it and I really don't wanna sound racist (as I'm far from that) but it really looks like illegal Mexican criminals have spread throughout all of the US like a pest

Re: Drugs and the Italians - 07/18/14 05:51 PM

Dominicans are big into heroin too if not more so than cocaine. There have been big busts involving mexicans and i think there even a few mexican street gangs. i think in the latest gambino arrests they were involved in selling pain pills or something.

Yup. But if you open your mouth about ILLEGAL immigration in this country, and you happen to be White, then you're a hateful racist wink .

I believe it, Scorsese. I only brought up the cocaine because it's been common knowledge for so many years. As far back as the early '80s, if you wanted to score some coke you jumped on the Major Deegan, got off at Yankee Stadium, and took a right over to the Heights to see the Dominicans.

yeh you remember the gheri curls gang they were crazy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jheri_Curls

I think that individual mobsters get involved at whatever level they can afford to. But i don't think we are gonna see the sort of family sponsored drug rings of the 70s anymore.

Interesting, Scorsese. But it says they were active from the early '90s. I was already in my 30's by then with a wife and two little girls. I wouldn't have gone into the Heights back then on a bet lol.

Of course, the mob's can't rely on one market. Not enough money and the way I see it, too much risk.

illegal Mexicans In new York city, that's hard to believe, im up here far northwest, and the Mexicans that are here are from L.A. the biggest illegals are cali, texas, az, and the gulf states, first I ever heard of new York illegals, their a long way from home. 20 years from now the white American male might be the absolute minority. and that my friends will be very bad.

Paddy they have diversified, along with Heroin, Cocaine, Molly and Weed they are also behind many of the semi legit clinics slinging Viagra, testosterone, HGH and other HRT drugs. Not glamorous but very profitable.

There are even more of them in South Yonkers. I recently read that there are more illegal Mexicans in the City of Yonkers than in any other city of its size northwest of Texas.

Re: Drugs and the Italians - 09/28/14 04:44 PM

Very valid point mbo but who is going to be more inclined to go to college and/or contribute to society in a meaningful, tangible fashion?

An Irish/Italian/Pole or a Somali/Mexican/Albanian?

Just being pragmatic here.
