The New York City Department of Health works on a point system. You're allowed to have up to 46 partial human remains stashed in and around your building. The Gemini had 47, and they were eventually closed.

Well to be fair it was the aprtment behind teh gemini that was used to kill/dismember not the bar itself really. I guess my real question was when it was turned into a church?

NEW LIFE: Donald Williams runs a Brooklyn church (above) at the site of a blood-soaked ex-Gambino haunt.

It’s a former Mafia slaughterhouse where God — and not the Godfather — calls the shots now.
A Brooklyn building that once housed the infamous Gemini Lounge — where Gambino crime-family soldiers carried out countless, unspeakable mob murders — has become the Flatlands Church of God, drawing faithful every Sunday to sing praises to the Almighty.
Donald Williams, pastor of the mob killing-field-turned-Pentecostal church at Flatlands and Troy avenues, said he didn’t know his church site’s gruesome history before paying $220,000 for it in 1997.
The two-story brick building is where Gambino soldier Roy DeMeo and his crew of Mafia psychopaths whacked and dismembered anywhere from 70 to 200 victims in the 1970s and early ’80s, according to prosecutors.
But Williams said he doesn’t regret buying the property — even as the church now struggles years later to stay afloat and raise money for necessary repairs.
“I think God sent us here for a reason,” Williams said. “After we opened, many of our neighbors said our coming was a sigh of relief. They said if a church is here, God is here, and they could finally sleep at night.”
The pastor also said he believes the church’s presence has saved souls of people murdered there.
The church’s altar and seating area for its 100 members was once a smoke-filled dance floor at the old lounge.
An elevated stage, now used for a public address system, is where DeMeo usually sat and kept a safe to stash loan-shark money, guns and other valuables.
And a side apartment, now used for church offices, was where unsuspecting victims were lured and killed in an execution style dubbed the “Gemini Method.”
The system was designed to eliminate messiness, prosecutors say.
Someone would shoot the victim once in the head and then wrap a towel around his wound like a turban to stem blood flow. Another person would then stab the victim in the chest to divert more blood from pumping out of the gunshot wound.
Before being tossed in bags and boxes and dropped at a local dump, the corpse would be chopped up in a basement room the church has since converted into a computer room and some bathrooms.
It was “an assembly line procedure,” said Walter Mack Jr., a former federal prosecutor who tried and helped convict some of DeMeo’s crew.
“People went to the Gemini Lounge and never returned.”
The pastor and his wife, Sarah, said they learned many of the building’s gruesome details after reading the 1993 book, “Murder Machine,” by Gene Mustain and Jerry Capeci. It documents the tales of DeMeo, who is believed to have been whacked himself in 1983.
“I read most of it, but not all — it’s too gory,” Williams said.
Capeci, who operates ganglandnews.com, said he’s glad to see a more peaceful use of the site.
“No matter how evil or corrupt a place is, it’s never too late to start anew,” he said.

It was still a bar until 95/96 of course under a few different names. It was empty for a few years then became a church.

Yeah I agree. That way the NSA could keep a file of everyone who went. There was a serial killer literally a block away from my house here. You could actually smell the dead bodies from outside. Would you like the address?

Nah we used to mention it to him and he just said raccoons died in his attic and he couldn't reach them to clear them out. Not to mention he was such a dirtbag along with most of his family that nobody really looked deeper into it. I was inside his house a few times and he actually had underwear with shit stains all in the hallways and old rotten food everywhere. We used to call him Stinky. He only got caught after one of the hookers escaped

But the remark I first made on this thread was when you get to the level that most of the demeo guys were at, you're barely any different than a scumbag like kendall. That's not museum-worthy stuff. If they didn't know a few of the right people, most of that crew would just be petty crooks who killed for sadistic sport

Back in those days you could get away with that stuff. I remember meeting Joey and Anthony, but we called Joey "J.T." and Anthony "Tony" and them beating down someone, probably a guy on juice in front bar that had 100 plus people in it. Their was even a cop parked across the street, that didn't do anything. Those two carried a lot of weight around my block and nobody would dare fuck with them. People didn't like Henry too much or as we called him "Dirty Harry".

Is anybody living in the house now? THAT would be creepy. It's one thing to buy a house where an old person died but a place where a serial killer stored victims is something else.

It stayed empty for a while but it got sold cheap to a guy with real young daughters. They would always be playing out front and cars would pass slowly while people loudly pointed out 'there's the house where kendal chopped up those hookers'.. I live in a very classy city obviously

Thanks, Blacksheep. Don't be too tough on your town, I think an infamous site would attract similar attention in many other US cities. The seller must have had one fast talking realtor.

Like Alfred Hitchcock says on the trailer for Psycho,

"Good evening. I have some news that will delight you. Murder is not dead. I do not refer to the ones splashed all over the front pages. Those are in such bad taste. I refer to those exquisite murders that have a touch of the bizarre, and which take fiendish ingenuity to solve. Those are alive and well."

Some crimes/criminals simply transcend the circumstances in which they were committed, take Jack the Ripper or Ed Gein for example, and are destined to become the stuff of legend. The ghoulishness of DeMeo's crimes ensured him a certain perverted degree of immortality, hence the idea of a Gemini Lounge museum. Like how Scotland Yard maintains its own "black museum." That sort of thing.

It means the Gemini Lounge would have made a great museum of horrors.

The people that live in that neighborhood now have no idea what went on there, that area is now made up of recent caribbean immigrants.
