Gravano in the genovese family - 06/11/14 02:31 PM

Do u think things would have turned out different for gravano if he had been made into the genovese family ?? It's a hypothetical question I know but I think he would have been much better suited to the genovese as in the beginning this guy was fiercely loyal and he was very low key and not flashy

I doubt it. The Westside power base was never in Brooklyn. Had he been made there, he never would have gotten out of Allie Shades' shadow.

Allie's retired (or shelved, depending on who you listen to), but his son's around. The other guys in that indictment (except for Angelo) were a bunch of bottom feeders made semi-famous by that whiny fag Sal Benedetto.

I spent 25 years in that local. And believe me, Sal was hardly the neophyte, babe-in-the-woods that he made himself out to be. When he needed help getting started in cardboard and paper, he knew exactly where to go. Then when he got in over his head he ran for help wink .

I think Neil Dellacroce was also destined to be with the Genovese family, but they would not open the books so he ended up with the Gambinos.

Neil was with the Manganos (who became the Gambinos) from the '30s. He came up directly under Anastasia, and he was made YEARS before the books closed.

Pizza,

I have been wondering this for several months now. What and whom are you referring to when you say "westside"? Obviously its a Genovese crew from the Westside I always assumed? Can you go into details to clarify things for me and others please, thank you.

Confused,

Dante

A more realistic scenario would be Sammy Gravano with the Colombo family, since he was with them early in his criminal career.

Would he have been as successful in the construction industry without the backing of the more powerful Gambino family? Which side would he have chosen in the Third Colombo War? Would he have ratted when facing a stiff prison sentence for the war?

Like Delly said, it's just another name for the Genovese family as a whole. It derives from the fact that they always had so much influence on the West Side of Manhattan, and in Jersey as well (Jersey being west of New York) smile .

Of course they were active in Brooklyn. You had Al Gallo and Allie Shades both active at that time, not to mention Punchy and a slew of other guys. But the Genovese power base was never in Brooklyn, and I doubt Sammy would have ever moved past soldier out there. It's all moot anyway. These "what if?" threads always are smile.
