Gallo Crew Question - 05/14/14 10:49 AM

I just searched the forum and didn't find it, so I thought I might ask the group. Saw the Gallo Mobsters segment last night and let me to doing some Internet searches today.

According to Wikipedia, Gallo's crew included Vic Amuso, and Carmine Persico. Is that correct?

Persico was on the Gallo side during there war with profaci , the reason he is called the snake is because he swapped sides and was involved in the attempted murder of Larry Gallo

Yep, that´s right! Some of the more famous names in Gallo´s crew include: John "Mooney" Cutrone, Mike Rizzitelli (a Californian who was later made in LA, Cali), Pete "The Greek" Diapoulos (who later wrote a book on Joey, Joe "T" Tomasello, Sally D´Ambrosio, Joseph "Lolly Pop" Carna, Tony "Shots" Abbatemarco (later served as underboss), "Big" Tony Peraino (the guy who produced the porno movie Deep Throat if I`m not misremembering, and of course kid brother Albert and Joe "Punchy" Illiano (both later made with the Genoveses). Bobby Boriello (later made with the Gambinos) also seems to have had a role in the Gallo gang. He was a lookout in the neighborhood, looking for Profaci soldiers coming in. He was too young at the time to have a bigger part of the gang. Ten years later however, he was extremely close to Joey Gallo and served at times as his bodyguard.

I´m not sure about Vic Amuso? Did D´Arco say he was with the Gallos back then? I can´t remember.

Pete the Greek's book on Gallo is a pretty good read. Very "colorful". That book written a couple of years ago by that talking head was pretty shitty. "Joey" is probably the best book on Gallo.

Re: Gallo Crew Question - 05/16/14 12:25 AM

He later became an enforcer for Profaci crime family mobster, Joseph "Crazy Joe" Gallo, in Brooklyn.[5] In the early 1960s, the Gallo brothers declared war against longtime crime boss, Giuseppe "Joe" Profaci and the old Profaci faction of the family, because Profaci cut into Gallo's profits. Amuso would allegedly kill several members of the Profaci faction, but was sent to prison sometime in the early 1960s, along with Joey Gallo and a dozen others, for extortion charges.

After Joe Gallo's release from prison in early 1971, he continued his war against the family on June 28, 1971, when boss Joseph Colombo was shot. Months later on April 7, 1972, Joe Gallo was shot to death in Little Italy Manhattan, New York, while he was celebrating his 43rd birthday. Many Colombo crime family members, especially those from the old Gallo crew, defected to other crime families. Amuso went to the Lucchese family sometime during that year, as an associate in the crew of Christopher "Christie Tick" Furnari.

Wasn't he one of the ones that was with Fratianno? I've heard that name before.

A tip if you want to find out more about Joey Gallo etc...DONT read 'The Mad Ones'...I can honestly say its the worst book Ive ever read about organised crime, so disappointing, it's just a weird book, I reckon the guy that wrote it was on acid or trying badly to be a beatnick

HK hi how r u doin'? Since I see you may be on here posting I have a question for you about Joey Gallo.
What was he doing in a picture with Tony Bender? They were both getting booked same time I think in Hackensack jail or northern Jersey. Was Gallo working for the Genovese's?

Re: Gallo Crew Question - 07/31/14 02:17 PM

Hi AG. I remember you from another forum, but can´t remember the name of it. It was Eric Ferrara´s site. It´s closed down now.

Gallos were actually close with Tony Bender. They often frequented bars and clubs in Greenwich village, Bender´s domain. There were rumors that Tony Bender, probably because power had went to his head (being the acting boss at the time) encouraged the Gallo´s rebellion against their boss Profaci. I think it was Bender who offered to speak for them in front of the Commission when they kidnapped the four Profaci underlings. So they were pretty close.

Welcome aboard!

Is that right? He went in front of the commission on their behalf wow.
I can ask you what happened to Tony Bender but that may be better left unanswered lol.

Do you think under a different boss The Gallo Crew would've faired out better. After all, I heard they were great earners yet Profaci was a greedy SOB and that crew was constantly kicking up to him but it was NEVER ENOUGH.

I was on Ferrara's site yup so glad to see u on here. You are the man!

And it's no accident that years later, even though Bender was long dead, that Albert ended up with the Westside's Brooklyn faction.

His name is Roy Musico. He was in that picture with Punchy Illiano and Albert Gallo when they saved those kids from the burning apartment back in the 60's.

Here's the article and picture on that:

It's a shame what happened to that Johnny Cokes, guy was out on a Easter furlough with a prostitute and got blasted away at the Red Bull Inn in Bridgewater NJ. I don't even think he got a chance to do his thing with the bukyak.
