Lansky was not an official, voting member of the Commission for the reason stated. But he sat with and advised the Commission because Charlie Luciano was smart enough to form the Commission in the first place (rather than declare himself Capo di Tutti Cappi), and because he accepted help from all quarters--including non-Sicilians and non-Italians like Lansky and Bugsy Siegel. Also, Lansky and Luciano were friends from boyhood. Lansky arranged the assassinations of Joe (the Boss) Masseria and Salvatore Maranzano that ended the Moustache Pete era and helped Luciano get to the top.

Lansky wasn't the Boss of a Family,so he would never have sat on the Commission. I often wonder how Mob history would have played out if he would have been Italian.
He was such a major outside influence on the foundations of the modern American Mafia, that I could not even begin to fathom what he could have done as a made guy.
Who knows, maybe we would be discussing threads about the legendary "Lanza" or "Lancetti" Family.

Lansky lost most of his influence once Lucky went away and lost what little he had left when Costello retired. He still had some allies (Vincent Alo in particular) but he was no longer any type of major underworld power, despite what the media said and still says.

No. Lansky was not a Mafia member. No non members ever sat on the Commission, advised the Commission or stood in front of the Commission. Many times underbosses, consiglieres and captains participated in Commission meetings but it was only the sitting bosses who voted on matters discussed on there. Lansky was never part of the Commission in any shape or form.

I don't know if I agree with you on this.

If your assertion above is true about Lansky losing most of his influence once Lucky went away, then how do you explain Lansky's ability to engineer a deal (almost 6 years after Luciano went away) with the US government to have Lucky released from prison?

You're right, I should have written when Lucky was deported and not when he was imprisoned.

im sure bosses on the commission ask his advice on rackets. wasn't in the mid 1960tys he said were bigger then u.s. steele that was well after Costello retired and luckys dead. the jew mob was taken over Hollywood then if not earlier. even in 1979 sonny black and Donnie brasco went to meet him I think but not brasco. don't believe for a sec that the mob was trying to kill hitler they prosperd off the war. they could even kill mussilini in there land. he was killing aton of them. im sure myer wanted him dead wonder how it felt for him when he went to isreal and they kicked his ass out just as fast. wonder if he was a top echlon informant nothing would shocked me anymore. the fbi was so corrupt in those days they would just lie on paper and say you were to get a wiretap. but they probably would have kept going after him on petty shit in the 70tys if he was informant. the jew lefty rosen whatever was a snitch only giving the feds so much to keep them off his back why he was never indicted in the strawman case aka the casino movie case. bosses should have know he ws a snitch like bulger and flemmi left out of the horse racing cases.

If you want to learn more about Lansky, read "Little Man - Meyer Lansky and the Gangster Life" by Robert Lacey. It is the bestresearched and written gangster biography ever.
