Kicking up legitimate income

Do bosses get a percentage of any legitimate income that their underlings generate?

I remember in an episode of the sopranos Eugene gives Tony a piece of his money that he inherited from his late relative. Although its a tv show, this makes me wonder if captains and bosses get money from everything that their soldiers and associates make regardless if his mob-related or not

No idea..... but as far as i remember he only gave T that money because he was trying to buy his way out of the life.

Well that construction money was probably made through illegal means. So it was mob money.

But when he gave the money to Tony, Tony even says he didn't want to say anything because it was a family member. Meaning he expected Eugene to give him a cut.

Yeah I remember it being Eugene initially giving Tony some gold watches to help with his Florida request, and then eventually giving Tony his mandatory piece of the money.

I would think that it depends on the origin of the legit income. For example,if a Soldier or Capo opens up a coffee shop on his own and doesn't use any Mob connections or money to operate,I don't think he is expected to kick a piece of the business up.

If he runs a gambling business or moves swag out of the basement,he will kick up a share of that type of activity.

When you have guys that own construction or trucking businesses for example,and they use their Mob ties to muscle the competition. or get an inside track on bidding,then they also will kick up a piece.

The bottom line seems to be that if the financing or operation of the business requires Mob assistance,then protocol would call for a proper tribute be made.

Guys like Mike Sabella,or Joe "Butch" Corrao,didn't kick up pieces of their restaurants,but they definitely gave a taste of their other activities to their Bosses.
