The Outfit's Prostitution Empire - 02/09/14 01:54 AM

Prostitutes, whores, hookers, sluts whatever you wanna call them, they are making money from one of the oldest professions in the world and thats prostitution. The prostitution biz dates even before antient Greece. They are sex workers and in moder days can usually be found on the streets, clubs and brothels.Brothels or whore houses are establishments specifically dedicated to prostitution. However, many massage parlors, saunas, spas and similar establishments sometimes serve as illegal fronts for prostitution, especially in larger cities.Theres also other kinds of sex workers like the escort prostitution. The prostitute may be independent or working under pimps or madams or auspices of an escort agency.Correctly or not, prostitute without specifying a gender is commonly assumed to be female; compound terms such as male prostitution or male escort are therefore used to identify males. Those offering services to female customers are commonly known as gigolos; those offering services to male customers are hustlers or rent boys. One of the most serious problems associated with prostitution is the fact that the sex trade is surrounded by illegal, abusive and dangerous activities.Female prostitutes are at risk of violent crime, as well as possibly at higher risk of occupational mortality than any other group of women ever studied. They are usally addicted to drugs, beaten all the time, kidnapped or in worst cases murdered. However, there are substantial differences in rates of victimization between street prostitutes and indoor prostitutes who work as escorts, call girls, or in brothels and massage parlors.Usually women who work on the streets are the most likely to be victimized. It is clear that the mob and other criminal organizations frequently traffic women for forced prostitution and that these organizations provide security, support, or services to pimps, brothel owners, and other mob groups. In the U.S. the mafia was into the prostitution biz from the begining and made a lot of money of it.One way of revenge for the prostitutes was by giving syphilis(wich was deadly back in the days) as a "present" to some of the mobsters.

Prostitution was never legal in Chicago, for example. The notorious Levee district was a place where brothels, gambling houses and illegal saloons were publicly allowed to exist, tolerated or ignored by the police, the city government and the citizen. In Chicago it was usually managed on the street level, with the mob receiving a cut from the local pimps and after that many clubs and other locals offered women at any time.In the Windy City, gangsters created, operated, and managed hundreds of whorehouses, which often had the false front of being a roadhouse, saloon, or resort.Such as the Cannonball Inn or the infamous Everleigh Club, wich was a high-class brothel and operated in the 1900's.It was owned by two crooked alderman, “Bathhouse” John Coughlin and Hinky Dink Kenna. The two of them were connected to many Chicago gangsters and were the main players in the prostitution rings. They used to take street tax from many pimps and clubs and their gangster lieutenants made collections every week.

Another famous pimp who immigrated to the United States around 1913 was Jack Zuta.He worked as a junk dealer on the West Side before becoming involved in prostitution. He eventually operated several brothels on west Madison Street.

Big Jim Colosimo was born in 1875 and left Italy in 1895 and sailed towards Chicago. After becoming a skilled pickpocket at 18, Colosimo acquired a “stable” of girls and became a pimp.He gained power through gambling and later opened a huge chain of brothels filled with prostitutes.Big Jim married a madam named Victoria Moresco, who kept a whore house on Armour Avenue. He quickly took over the management of his wife's brothel, renaming it "The New Brighton".Big Jim took over operations in aonther brothel named “The Victoria” and in 1903, joined forces with the unfortunately named Maurice Van Bever. Big Jim and Van Bever pioneered the practice of “white slavery,” the popular Progressive-era term for sex trafficking. He also began unionizing the street sweepers, working together with Italian political power Tony D'Andrea and "Dago Mike" Carrozzo.Big Jim controlled over 200 prostitution houses. By 1909, Colosimo had convinced Johnny Torrio to move to Chicago from New York and take charge of his prostitution operations, wich was his biggest mistake because he got killed in 1920.

Jake and Harry Guzik, supplied many of the girls for Big Jims brothels. Harry Guzik became big time in the prostitution racket.Harry Guzik was a top lieutenant in the Capone organization, and he was chiefly in charge of prostitution operations. His father, Max Guzik, was a Levee saloon-owner and political affiliate of Alderman Michael "Hinky Dink" Kenna. One of Guzik's major brothels was the disorderly hotel here at 516 S. Wabash. The hotel was built in the mid-1890s, and substantially renovated in 1918, before it was purchased by Capone in the early 1920s.Harry Guzik had once been convicted of kidnapping several young girls and forcing them in to lives of prostitution. The Guzik brothers ran the South Side of Chicago's Levee vice district.Their rival in the prostitution biz was Jack Zuta. But Harry Guzik eventually drove Zuta out of business.

A German American mob boss,Michael "The Pike" Heitler began operating brothels in Chicago during the early 1900s based out of west Madison Street. By 1911, he had become a leading crime figure and a top lieutenant to Chicago racketeer Jacob "Mont" Tennes and close ally with Jake Guzik.Heitler continued to run independently of Big Jim Colosimo and later independently of Johnny Torrio, until the early 1920s, after the formation of the Chicago Outfit.

In the early 20's the Torrio/Capone mob was taking over Chicagos underworld.By this time Torrio began expanding his prostitution rackets. He was finally able to reopen the New Brighton, though most of his other gambling houses, drug dens, and brothels were closed as public pressure on the police forced the end of open vice in Chicago, forcing him to expand further into the suburbs. With the help from guys like Al Capone and Jake Guzik,Torrio became the lord of prostitution in Chicago.

Al Capone's ran his first prostitution racket from the infamous Four Deuces club. The 2200 Wabash block was in the heart of Chicago's South side Levee. Gamblers and roughnecks would drink, gamble and whore away their hard earned wages for moments of fleeting pleasure. Many prostitution establishments could be found in this area, but none would become as infamous as the Four Deuces. The ladies were usually teenage girls, brought there from Canada and around the Midwest, were taught about the "gentle" arts. The girls were taught the art of the "swift dip," which involved taking a wallet, removing the money, and slipping the wallet quickly back into the drunk's pocket. And after they were schooled, they were shipped from Chicago to other underworld parts all over the country.Runaway girls were especially victimized, many ending up as virtual slaves.Eventually, most of the girls were turned into narcotic addicts to make them more "loyal".Al's brother,Ralph “Bottles” Capone was the first Chicago gangster that spreaded the prostitution racket out of Chicago. In the mid 1920s he had big operations on Silver Street in Hurley, Wisconsin."Silver Street" was full of speak-easies,girlie shows and brothels. He also had operations in Kansas city.In late 1925 Torrio moved to Italy, where he no longer dealt directly in mob business and in 1931 Al Capone was sent to jail,so during the 30's Ralph owned a lot of locals and continued with the prostitution racket.

Federal Investigator's reported that during the 30's prostitution became one of the chief occupations in Chicago's underworld.Saloons used to function with barmaids who served soda and whiskey and ofcourse sexual favours.During the 30's one of Chicagos most famous prostitutes was Virginia Hill. She worked for a mobsters Joseph Epstein and Jake Guzik.

Trouble came when Michael "The Pike" Heitler(mad at Capone for not letting him run things independently) began informing Chicago police of criminal activities after rival Guzik gained control of the organization's prostitution operations ,informing Judge John H. Lyle of extortion and other illegal activities in the Four Deuces nightclub. Heitler was soon found out and fired by Capone after he received a letter to the state's attorney office detailing his prostitution operations. Heitler continued to send information to police later claiming Capone's involvement in the death of Chicago Tribune reporter Jake Lingle, which, the letter was received by Capone.Heitler may have also been involved in the conviction of Guzik and Ralph "Bottles" Capone for tax evasion, in 1930.Heitler was pushed out of the prostitution peddling business by the Capone gang.In 1931 Michael "The Pike" Heitler's body was torched in his car near Itasca,Illinois.May 1931 Tony Capezio was questioned and released concerning Mike "The Pike"Heitler's death and Lawrence Mangano was also a suspect because he was the last one that was seen with Mike.

During the 40's rising stars in the prostitution racket were Chicago's big shot Ross Prio and Jimmy "the Monk" Allegretti .They ran the prostitution racket on the Near North Side from the mid-1940s to the mid-1960s.Allegretti was a frequent customer of the fleshy treats with a fondness for underage girls. The girls were pimped out of hotel lounges and dive bars including several establishments allegedly under the direct control of Allegretti. The Levee District became the red-light district of Chicago and also the River North and the Rush Street areas. Some of the girls even operated from Allegretti's meat markets.Allegretti was a ruthless bastard and was known for beating and giving death threat to silence some of the girls. In March 1944 Ross Prio associate James De Angelo, partner in gay bar The Windup, was found stuffed into a car trunk after he was tortured and slain during a turf dispute among rival mobsters. The Monk was a degenerate who was charged in 1959 with paying $30 for oral sex from an underage girl. Also during the 40's another player in the sex biz was Joseph Sonken, owner of many clubs and brothels, wich later moved to Miami and expanded the Outfits interests in prostitution.

In the early 50's the Chicago mob owned a lot of clubs, wich were filled with prostitutes.Among the fun spots was the cabaret-style Chez Paree at 610 North Fairbanks Street and the Windup Lounge at 669 North State which was "notorious as a Lesbian and 'queer' hangout," As the prostitution empire grew over the years the Outfit allegedly used an increasing number of suspected fronts including Nate Zuckerman and Mike Glitta. Glitta allegedly fronted the plush Shore Club at 528 North Clark Street among other places.During the 50's Jimmy Allegretti also made close connections in the sex biz with Joseph "Joey Caesar" DiVarco,Sam Giancana,Rocco Fischetti and Felix Alderisio. They all got their cut from the sex biz.Chicagos, once "king pimp",Jake Guzik died in 1956 of natural causes and in the late 50's Sam Giancana became boss of the Outfit.

Outfit boss Sam Giancana, also addicted on beautifull women, was taking big cut from a prostitution ring at the Playboy Club at 182 East Walton Street, together with Joey DeVarco and Marshall Caifano.Sometimes for fun,the waitresses from the club were dressed as bunnies and would usually take the tips between their boobs.During the late 50's Giancana regularly collected receipts and payoffs from prostitution rings in many nightclub and his soldiers also collected street tax from many pimps and prostitutes.During Sam's reign the outfit was also connected with the government from the Philippines and many young girls were bought from Manila for few dollars and after it sold in the U.S. and around the world. In about 1953, Willie Daddano was running prostitutes out of the River Road Motel in Rosemont. In 1956, Sam Giancana purchased the hotel through the Southmoor Bank for a $100,000 payment.Giancana changed the name of the motel to the Thunderbolt, dumped a pile of cash into its renovation, tossed out the hookers and, more or less, turned the place into a legitimate operation.

In the early 60's Giancana, together with Skinny D'Amato, owned the Cal Neva Lounge in Lake Tahoe. They were running a state wide prostitution ring out of the hotel. Also by this time one of Giancana's underlings Felix "Milwaukee Phil" Alderisio also controlled the prostitution racket in nearby Milwaukee. In the mid 60's Giancana was replaced as boss of the Outfit and there was a changing of the guard in the prostitution racket. In 1969 Jimmy Allegretti never made it back alive to Rush Street and died of a heart attack on a commercial flight en route from Springfield to Chicago and in 1972 Ross Prio also died from natural causes.

Also after Giancans replacement,Joey Aiuppa took over some of the prostitution rackets. He's partner was Chicago’s most infamous keeper of the ladies,Madam Rose. She supplied expensive prostitutes to the wealthy, the powerful and the Chicago Mob.During the 60s and 70s Joey Doves became so close that he became her personal protector and they made a lot of money.Tony Accardo also took a cut from this "frinedship".

One of Jimmy Allegretti's underlings named John Gattuso operated the prostitution racket, especialy the gay bars.In the 50's John Gattuso married the niece of Rush Street crew boss Allegretti, and by the early 1960s was managing the Monk's interests in strip clubs, B-girl joints and gay bars and in the early 70's was the big shot of the gay prostitution racket in Chicago.Gattuso had interests in numerous gay bars on Chicago's near north side and was paying off dirty cops in the 18th, 19th and 20th police districts to avoid raids against them. Most of the young men in the hotel's and bars were male prostitutes and the Outfit made a lot of cash.Gattuso owned the French Doll Loung, the Playhouse, the French Casino and New Jamie's on North Clark Street which supposedly served as a meat market for rent boys and their admirers. The New Jamie's was well known as a place to pick up male prostitutes. He also had connections in the Sparrow's, The Gold Coast, and The Club Bath at 609 North La Salle Street.

During the early 70's after Ross Prio's death,John Gattuso also worked with Joseph "Big Joe" Arnold who took over the Rush Street crew after Allegretti's death. After the death's of Ralph Capone in 1974 and mob boss Sam Giancana in 1975 ,in 1976 and 1977 there were a series of confirmed and suspected cases of arson involving gay bathhouses along the west coast including the Folsom Street Barracks at 8 Hallam Street, San Francisco; Club Bath at 328-330 Ritch Street, San Francisco; Steve's Bath House in Sacramento, California; and Club Bath in Portland, Oregon.By this time Chicago Heights big shot Albert Tocco was shaking down prostitution houses from Calumet City south to Kankakee, from Joliet over the Indiana border to Valparaiso. From the 50’s untill the 80’s the Chicago mob also controlled prostitution in Las Vegas with the help of mobsters like Frank Panno and Gus "the Greek" Palladinos.Frank Panno was a partner in a multi-million-dollar call- girl ring with Doris "Dolly" Fischer, the notorious Buffalo Grove madame who employed her live-in boyfriend, renowned burglar and hijacker Paul "Peanuts" Panczko, to chauffeur the prostitutes around Chicago as they made their appointed rounds.

In 1980, a federal judge in Miami sentenced Marshall Caifano to two sentences of 20 years. On February 10, 1983 John Gattuso and Jasper Campise fucked up a hit on Ken Eto who ran the numbers racket, and because of that their decomposing bodies were discovered in a car trunk.By this time Vito Caliendo, operator of a big prostitution ring and close associate of Joe Ferriola was making $1 million annual business. Also in 1986, Joseph DiVarco died in federal prison,in 1988 Vito Caliendo was sentenced to 7 years in jail,Joe Ferriola died in 1989 and Albert Tocco was sent to prison in 1990.Also in 1990 a woman was accused for operating a nationwide prostitution ring and was videotaped when she met with William B.J. Jahoda who was once an overseer of the mob`s day-to-day gambling operations and James Nicholas who was a bookmaker and operated under the auspices of reputed mob big shot Ernest Rocco Infelice. The 200 woman ring brought prostitutes to Chicago from the East and West Coasts by using many apartments. The ring catered Chicago politicians, judges and many businessmen.Nicholas was free on $50,000 bond, later Jahoda started cooperating with a federal investigation and Rocco Infelise was sentenced to 63 years on August 19, 1993.

Today most of the prostitutuion rings in Chicago are run by other ethnic groups, such as the Chinese mafia and the Latin gangs and maybe few Chicago wiseguys may still have some small time connections...or maybe im wrong...

No, no way. There was some guy on this board who claimed The Outfit had to give up the sluts to become recognized as CN when the commision was formed! Some stuff really has to make you laugh.

Of course they never ran broads after that edict. wink

I'd be shocked if they still don't to this day on Mannheim Rd. If not it only ended a decade or so ago.

And if those are actual pics of women they had on the streets, nice job Toodoped! smile

In the 1980s, the group went worldwide, although it has been active in the US since at least the mid 1950s, when Chicago's super pimp, Charlie Fischetti, and his brothers discovered they could sell a blonde haired, blue- eyed American prostitute to their Japanese counterpart for a small fortune.
