What was the turf of the Decavalcante Jersey Mob? - 01/28/14 05:52 PM

Hi guys

I hope you can help me with something that I've been trying to find the answer to for a long time. It's about the turf the Decavalcante family controlled. I know they had a crew in Newark, one in Elizabeth City, and one in New York. but when you see the charts for that Family they had around 6 to 7 Captains at it's peak. Obviously 3 of them are the crews that control Newark, Elizabeth and New York, what areas did the other crews control or consider their place of business. I heard that they all clamed up in Newark and Elizabeth and New York, but wouldn't that mean they would all be competing with each other over the gambling, loan sharking, extortions etc? If anyone can answer it that would be great and if u can identify the Captain who controls what area for example Frank Majuri--Newark Crew. Thanks

Someone could probably explain this better but I think crews can overlap in areas. There isn't just one captain in Elizabeth, there could be several. Also they are not restricted to their geographical location so a mainly Elizabeth based crew could also be operating in other areas.

up until the 80's the decavalcantes also had a crew in Connecticut. and Gotti i know you were just making a generalization but the majuri crew was the only newark crew for the decavs.

Mainly Elizabeth and surrounding Union County with some activity in Newark . Bookmaking , shy , construction / unions and some extortion

A lot of $ to be made in those cities but today you would have to wholesale drugs .

Some of the strong NY families had huge cards/ dice game in Nwk and Elizabeth so I'm sure there is still some of that left + shy . Many of the decav guys were union workers , curious if they ever made some $ at nwk airport , obviously some truck jackings but if you had the cargo union , you were set , could steal thousands every day and whack it up ( got a good friend who became a policeman and that exactly what they did ) , not to mention use their access and less rules when on planes to transport kilos but this was in the 90s , I got no more connect there on what's a doing

In Elizabeth, they were centered around the Ribera Social Club. A lot of DeCav members have roots from Ribera, Italy.

At their peak, I thought they had seven crews. Three in Elizabeth, two in Newark, one in southern Jersey that operated in Delaware and Maryland, Atlantic City belonged to the Bruno family, and one crew that operated in Connecticut.

Hi

Yeah I've been reading "Sam the Plumber" book and seems he had control around central NJ and Newark and Elizabeth City, Also a Capo of his Frank Cocchiaro seemed to have influence in Long Branch, NJ or it was just a place he was hiding out because he was wanted by the cops and went on the "lam". What were the 3 captains who controlled Elizabeth and what Caporegime controlled South Jersey. Also in this book Bobby Basile talks about gambling activities in Carteret, NJ and Edison, NJ
Be great if we could all work together and build a chart of the old DeCavalcante crime Family when Sam the Plumber ran things because there doesn't seem to be one out there on the internet thanks guys

In Delaware/Maryland the Philadelphia mob ran that area with old time Angelo Bruno loyalist Santo Idone. Maybe your thinking of him or you have information on what Decavalcante crew operated there? Thanks

I had read that Sam lived in Lawrenceville or Princeton (which are very close to Trenton). Wonder if he had any operations there or in Mercer County?

Philipbracci, It was Santo Idone I was thinking of, he was close to Amari and Badami, but he was also close to Bruno and Ida in Philly as well, and it is rumored that he threaten to kill Polina if he ever showed up in his territory. The threat he is rumored to made, is what made me think he was with the Decavalcante family, as it is a death sentence to make such a threat to your own boss or even anothers family boss, but because he remained still breathing, I assume that he was with New Jersey, which would make sense if some sort of tribute was paid for such a thing.
