Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Facebook - 11/20/13 07:58 PM

This is a random post on something I just noticed.

If you follow the Outfit and have access to Facebook, check out Angelo "Skip" Saviano (the former State Rep from Elmwood Park whose term ended in 2012)and browse his list of friends. Obviously the guy is popular and hence his long list of random people adding him.

But if you look below the surface you will see that not only is it residents of Elmwood adding him...but residents from various townships well outside his district who are siblings, sons or wives of well-known Outfit members. Also, there are Outfit members themselves on Facebook (as silly as that sounds) and they are friends with him too. Guys like Carl Dote, Bruno Roti and even Solly D. Yes Solly D is on Facebook, which I assume is a direct result of his hyper social media daughter Gina or his grandkids.

I know Skip and have been amazed at his lax attitude when it comes to associating with known Outfit members. He attends parties at JKS Ventures and has business deals with Marco D'Amico's daughters. Like a Jim DeLeo. However, this really takes the cake because half these Outfit people who friend him live nowhere near Elmwood Park, which he represents.

I would consider Solly D relatively old school:

facebook was fine when you were required to have a university issued email to sign up. It was a nice way to network and talk among peers. Since they opened it up to everybody, no surprise, it's become another outlet dominated by corporate advertising and general nonsense.

May be a random post but it's a good one. Things seem to have changed in Chicago. Exposure is no longer a no, no !

Thanks for sharing.

Mancini family has connections too don't they?

Eh...doesn't seem that nuts in this day in age. He doesn't have any pics up and looks like he's limited it to people close to him.

Facebook is amazing. It more or less functions as a free website. It's especially useful for musicians, artists, restauranteurs, any small business owner really.

Dont talk out of your ass.

I guess I didn't realize you can't see his pics unless you are in his network or whatever. Solly looks real good...skinny, tan and full of life. Sammy Cataudella is also on FB.

I still find it funny that Carl Dote was on Check Please talking about how he owns restaraunts with liqour licenses even though he is a convicted felon.

I assume you're his friend on there? Solly D that is? Does Cataudella have a picture of a construction worker throwing deuces and sticking tongue out as his wall picture? LOL

Don't want to turn this into a social media discussion, but staying connected to people you know...not sure what the big deal is. The world is like that in this day and age. Get over it.

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Facebook - 11/21/13 05:27 PM

Most mobsters dodge cameras and cover their faces when they are in court. Most mobsters don't think about "being connected to people" either. It's because they want to remain unknown...lurk in the shadows...still fool people into thinking they are legitimate.

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Facebook - 11/21/13 07:08 PM

I've looked at the accounts of other mob-related people. Funny how so many of them "like" Goodfellas, The Godfather etc.

What happened to Solly jr.?

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Facebook - 11/22/13 08:12 AM

He passed away in a motorcycle accident last year. Only 46 years old I believe. Very tragic.

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Facebook - 11/22/13 01:15 PM

Solly D was a big guy with a mean face. Now he looks like your typical italian grandpa. I'm curious to know his stature in the outfit these days. He did a lot of time in jail and kept his mouth shut. I remember when he was sentenced most of the papers considered the 18 years a death sentence even though he was in his 50's at the time.
His kid had a undiagnosed heart problem and he passed out on a motorcycle and crashed and died at the scene.

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Facebook - 11/22/13 09:07 PM

I wouldn't have ever called Solly D a big guy. He sure was dapper though.

I'd say he & Jimmy Inendino are #1,2 within the Outfit.

they should make inroads into elmwood park after difronzo dies

or do the shit now and tell him to shut the fuck up

They already have all the street rackets up that way anyways. What difference would it make?

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Facebook - 11/22/13 11:43 PM

I would think some of those EP crew members would be irritated with being kept on a leash.

@huronsocial

i thought they shut down street rackets in elmwood park

@funkster

i think a bunch of career criminals would be upset that they can't apply their trade

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Facebook - 11/24/13 04:04 AM

Where did you get that impression? Just because the Elmwood Park Crew got deactivated doesn't mean crime miraculously ceased to occur in Elmwood Park lol.
Posted By: Geek899273

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Facebook - 11/24/13 02:31 PM

People talk about the elmwood park crew beinng deactivated but I'm sure they still are enforcing bookies and adult book stores to pay a street tax. If you drive up Mannheim road all you see are adult book stores and strip clubs, well at least 20 years ago. it's been awhile since i've driven in that area. Marco D'Amico is still bookmaking and has his crew collecting on bets. A friend of mine was working for a bookie in Elmwood Park about 6 years ago collecting and paying but the bookie went out of business when he found out the police were getting close to busting him. My friend went to Giannotti's with him one night and John DiFronzo was in there dining with a large group of people. My buddy told me the bookie he was with acted like the pope was there when he saw DiFronzo.

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Facebook - 11/24/13 10:35 PM

Cicero & Chinatown controls those rackets now. There is no more formal Elmwood Park "street crew". They haven't made anyone in ages & are into white collar leisurely "crimes" these days.

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Facebook - 11/25/13 05:03 AM

i find it hard to believe career criminals just threw in the towel because difronzo said so

elmwood park has a crooked mayor and police chief

they'll be up and running after difronzo goes

Posted By: HuronSocialAthletic

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Facebook - 11/25/13 07:10 AM

Again, not talking about the town of Elmwood Park. Talking specifically about the Elmwood Park Street Crew of the Chicago Mafia (formal La Cosa Nostra).

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Facebook - 11/26/13 05:15 PM

Im sure once DiFronzo dies a lot of the younger guys will try to get things going again. DiFronzo may have deactivated the crew but that doesn't mean guys aren't still shaking down bookies and porno stores. Fosco said that DiFronzo still gets a cut of over sea gambling from Joey Devita? I think that's who handles the over sea gambling for Chicago. I always get him and Victor Vitta confused.

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Facebook - 11/26/13 06:45 PM

I thought it was Posner who was the link with all the overseas gambling stuff?

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Facebook - 11/26/13 08:05 PM

Your right about Posner. I think at one point DiFronzo or whoever was the boss was getting a cut from all the over seas gambling operations. I think Joey Devita is retired. He was one of Hy Larners guys.

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Faceboo - 11/28/13 02:27 AM

The recent Carparelli case tells us more about the day to day street racket life of La Cosa Nostra in Chicagoland than anything that has come out of Elmwood park in many years.

Posted By: Geek899273

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Faceboo - 11/28/13 01:24 PM

Is there any news of he Carparelli case as of late? It didn't get a whole lot of press when the he was indicted like most mob cases do. Probably because he isn't as well known as some of the big names in Family Secrets.
Posted By: funkster

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Faceboo - 11/28/13 07:02 PM

Didn't someone on here (ChiTown maybe?) say he was out on bail almost immediately?
Posted By: HuronSocialAthletic

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Faceboo - 11/28/13 07:08 PM

He was released almost immediately & opened up a pizza parlour in bloomingdale almost immediately.

I don't recall any young made guys being mentioned during family secrets.
Posted By: Geek899273

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Faceboo - 11/29/13 08:20 AM

There weren't any young made guys indicted in Family Secrets unless Nick Ferriola was made. I was just thinking the reason that the guy from Itasca who was indicted isn't getting the same press as Family Secrets is because he was pretty under the radar until recently and the press aren't as interested unless a DiFrozo or D'Amico was indicted with him. Although Solly D was mentioned in the article that he paid him $10 to rough someone up. This old guys are nuts, Solly D did 16 years and probably has enough money to never work a day for the rest of his life but he still fools around with this stuff. I have to hand it to DiFronzo, he's smart enough to keep away from this minor league stuff like beating up a deadbeat over some debt. That's why the feds won't indict DiFronzo. I know a lot of these old timers go back to the old "Your in it for life" but come on, does anyone have any fear of the Outfit these days? They are a shadow of there former self. You think Frank Calabrese Jr. would be doing a book signing at Borders in 1976? He would be MIA in a trunk somewhere in Chinatown. I know how everyone talks about how crazy Albie Vena is but is he crazy enough to kill someone over an outstanding loan and go to jail because they have his DNA at the crime scene. The only reason Alby got off on the murder charge in the early 90's is because the court system was still corruptible back then. They had a lot of evidence to convict him of the slaying Sam Taglia but suprise suprise, not guilty. He tried to run over a Chicago Cop when they came to arrest him for the murder and he served no time. It was a total joke back then. Solly D did 16 years without peeping a word which is a rare thing these days. He better hope this Paul guy doesn't try cutting a deal. He sounds like the typical moron outfit soldier who claims this is the life he chose but when your facing 10 years in jail with a bunch of lowlife blacks and mexicans who will not think twice of stabbing you because your white you tend to look at things differently.

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Faceboo - 11/29/13 07:00 PM

I don't pretend to know who the Outfit has or hasn't killed since Zizzo and the Hatch, however in fairness Calabrese Jr. is a unique situation. They'd be stupid to knock him down. He's had a lot of spotlight on him, killing him would bring an incredible amount of heat on them. I don't know that if all other things equal, it could necessarily even be done back in the day. Maybe, but we'll never know. Don't forget, he had to cancel a few book signings because he received death threats. Anonymous loons? Maybe...probably...but who knows?
Posted By: HuronSocialAthletic

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Faceboo - 11/29/13 09:42 PM

Junior Calabrese is not on bad terms with the Outfit. He wouldn't be hanging out in Elmwood park if he were.

The brother is. Which is why he will go directly into witness protection after he's released.

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Faceboo - 11/29/13 11:30 PM

Huron was it you who said they allowed him to cooperate just so his dad would go away? Don't get that because by junior flipping, it caused Nick to flip. So if frank Jr never did neither would've Nick
Posted By: HuronSocialAthletic

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Faceboo - 11/30/13 03:13 AM

ChiTown pointed that theory out. Word on the street was that the Caruso crew wanted calabrese's rackets so they had Jr put him away.

However far fetched you think that theory may be, junior is the guy coming to & from Chicago as he pleases, and his uncle is preparing to have his identity changed
Posted By: Geek899273

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Faceboo - 11/30/13 01:13 PM

Good point on if they killed Calabrese Jr. it would bring a ton of heat on the outfit. I do believe that in extreme cases the outfit still kill people, Zizzo for example.
I'm not sure how much I believe Jr. had permission from Caruso to flip on his dad because Nick did the most damage with his testimony. I do think that the outfit were probably happy to see Frank Sr go away because all the heat his family caused the outfit.
Nick is do out of jail pretty much any day now or he may have already been released. It's something that we'll never hear about since he is in witness protection.
A good example on how the outfit used to kill people even with all the attention is the guy who put away Cerone, Angelini and Ferriola back in the early 70's. Louis Bombacino was blown up about a year after all the guys he put away got out of jail. Granted back then they didn't have the DNA technology and stuff as they do today.

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Faceboo - 11/30/13 04:25 PM

Carparelli isn't getting much press because his crimes aren't that interesting. He facilitated the beatings of a few people.
Posted By: HuronSocialAthletic

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Faceboo - 11/30/13 06:05 PM

Nah if you'll thoroughly read the indictment, there was much more going on than just some petty extortion.

Re: Outfit: Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano on Faceboo - 11/30/13 08:03 PM

I'm not too familiar with the case. The only part I read was the original article on his arrest. I'm sure there is more then just a simple beating over an outstanding loan. I'm sure the feds are trying to get any info out of Paul but he seems like a die-hard outfit guy and won't talk. Joe Fosco mentioned that Michael Magnafichi is a buddy of Paul's.

Agreed.

Wonder if he is made...he seems young to be made by Outfit standards. Though Lombardo was fairly young when he was made in the 60s I believe?

I wonder if they even bother making people anymore. I agree he does seem young to be made but since the outfit doesn't kill as often and some people say you have to kill someone to be made. Maybe if your a big earner and haven't killed you can be made like a Don Angelini.
I've been reading stuff online about someone called "Mickey D". He's mentioned in the article about the indictment that he is a associate of Solly D.

the average chicagoan has no clue we even had a mafia after capone went to jail

The NY rule, which Aiuppa decided to follow, was that to be made, someone had to participate in a murder. This means that merely assisting, as in the case of Dominick Montigilio and Michael Franzese was good enough.

Whether or not that is followed in Chicago is up for debate. The only suspected Outfit hits in the past decade have been Hatch, Zizzo, those two suspected drug dealers in 2009 and the restaurant owner from Highland Park in 2012. The only two real confirmed ones are Hatch and Zizzo.

Who is Mickey D? I haven't found any info.

That's not entirely true. It was quite noticeable in the near west, far west and northwest suburbs well into the 1990s and even into the 2000s. Since the 1980s, the mob has primarily operated in the suburbs (other than the Bridgeport area), so if you are getting technical, then maybe the average city dweller Chicagoan doesn't have any interaction with the mob.

The drug dealer thing was posited by Fosco, no one else.

I'm not saying it couldn't have been, but take it for what it was: A story on a blog.

Which Highland Park restaurant owner?

Regarding guys getting made, Fosco said Mags told him the south side guys had made some guys not all that long ago... I forget the verbiage, but if memory serves the implication was maybe in the last 20 years. I could be wrong. Unfortunately I don't remember where it was in the comments section or which article and do not have the motivation to look!

I read that the Feds were investigating. I don't think they'd get involved if it was a run of the mill random crime.
