LaRocca Crime Family Control of Unions - 10/31/13 03:34 PM

Hi All,

I wanted to share with anybody who is interested the extensive control that the LaRocca Crime Family in Pittsburgh had over two major unions, LIUNA local 1058 and Teamster local 211. See links to each case:

Here is an article on Joseph "Jo Jo" Pecora, former Underboss to LaRocca/Genovese who also was a business agent for LIUNA local 178 of the Wreckers and Scrap Iron workers union. It's safe to say that LaRocca and Genovese had a stranglehold on quite a few locals from LIUNA and the IBT:

Hi Jimmy...Leo was a highly decorated Viet Nam veteran where he served as a door-gunner. Additionally he was an "executive assistant" for a wealthy area business man. All in all, a very good "real" man! Please consider re-posting your article about Jo Jo so we can get it open ;-)

Hi JCB I was told by MCScott on the RD forum that you were very well versed on the rackets in Pittsburgh/Youngstown/Cleveland. I am from the Wilkes-Barre area, would love to IM you about Kelly Mannarino and Russell Bufalino

Leo and Bobby were indeed terrific burglars. However in a valley of great burglars they were more common place. The Mahoning Valley laid claim to one of the most prolific bank robbers plus Bernie the Jew who invented the roof-top can opener. In fact Bernie participated in a bank heist in North Carolina in which they got popped!

Here's a little tidbit about Cozza's son from the Pgh Tribune Review 4/13
Fourteen candidates are vying for four open seats on Allegheny County Common Pleas Court, giving voters a difficult choice from a field of well-qualified candidates, political observers said.

The candidates include sitting Common Pleas Judges Paul Cozza, 52, of Baldwin Township and Bill Ward, 61, of Mt. Lebanon, both of whom Gov. Tom Corbett appointed last year;

Observers said Cozza and Ward, whom the Senate confirmed last summer, are among the front-runners, since both have experience on the bench.
Cozza “is a real working-class kid who worked hard to be a lawyer and get to the bench,” said state Sen. Jay Costa, D-Forest Hills.

A federal judge in 1991 barred Cozza's father, Theodore Cozza — the longtime president of Teamsters Local 211, which represented truck drivers for the Pittsburgh Press — from the labor union for ties to organized crime. Theodore Cozza, twice the target of a federal investigation, died in 1996.

Paul Cozza did not return calls for comment.

“He is a humble individual, which is a characteristic that you don't find often in my profession,” said Pittsburgh attorney Robert Del Greco, Cozza's friend.

Bernie the Jew was a very seasoned bank robber...did a lot of jobs with Amil and Jimmy Dinsio, two of the most notorious bank robbers in history who knocked over the bank in Laguna Nigel, CA. It is also stated in an FBI affidavit that Lenny Strollo reported to the FBI that Amil Dinsio was the man who pulled the trigger on the Joey Naples hit back in August of 1991.

I knew Teddy's kid was a lawyer but totally forgot he was a judge. Nice find Lou_Para. You do know that Charles "Chucky" Porter's kid, Charles J. Porter Jr is also a very well respected criminal defense lawyer? John LaRocca's kid, John Larocca Jr has been a high powered member of LIUNA 1058. Mike Genovese's son, Michael A. Genovoese, also has a big job with the union for the Post Gazette truck drivers as well as John LaRocca's grandson.

chucky porter was a very powerful and influential guy. he garnered a lot of respect from many other bosses around the northeast and midwest. russell bufalino held chucky in very high regard and that carried over with big billy. its ashame he cooperated although I heard he never testified against anybody and all he did was feed the feds some info about shit he heard from other mobsters with other families while being locked up. chucky used to come to Scranton once a month to deliver a cut of the erie, pa rackets to billy and russell. haven't heard that name in years but I remember him well, very polite and courteous, not your typical mob thug. I knew a lot of the pittsburgh guys well, as they were very close with russell and sciandra and later big billy because of kelly manarino. ive read a lot of your posts on pittsburgh and was told by a few forum members that your uncle was the longtime boss of the youngstown rackets. not trying to offend or insult you, please im me as I knew quite a few of the youngstown boys as youngstown shared a few wire rooms and were longtime partners with sal defrancesco and later big billy in waste hauling.

Hi Barbara1957,

I sent you an IM. Thanks for sharing some of your knowledge on Scranton/Pittsburgh. I know Chucky Porter was tight with the Scranton guys, but he also relied on Henry "Zebo" Zottola to make pick ups and drop offs. I know Henry came into Youngstown weekly and basically oversaw Lenny Strollo and company, especially when Lenny began shooting and killing everybody including politicians and lawyers. You are right, several key FBI agents have confirmed that Porter was very mannerly and had quite the logical thought process when making decisions. No offense taken, I sent you a private message regarding that. Appreciate your input and welcome to the forum...you should check out Real Deal, it tends to much more credible with a lot less hostility from other forum members. That site truly has some "key experts" for most of the original 26 families, especially the 5 families in NY, Chicago, Detroit, Philly and New England. The most knowledgeable person on New England is over on Real Deal, trust me, you don't want to communicate with the New England guys on this site, all they do is insult when they hear something they don't like and some of them "lead one to think" that they were actually a part of a crew. Again, welcome to the board and I'm glad to help in any way that I could regarding information on Pittsburgh/Youngstown/Cleveland. Also, Friend_of_Henry and Lou_Para are also well versed on Pittsburgh. What do you have on Michael Insalaco from Pittston?

Nope, not a mental midget. My personal information (first & last name) was made public by another member. Due to the world we live in, I decided to create another account because I am security conscious. I belong to two other forums, so if they ban me from this one, so be it...I haven't broken a law, at the end of the day, it's a forum online...not a threat to National security. FYI- There are two other guys I work with that operate from the same network/I.P address. Thank you for letting me contribute, some of you have provided a lot of good insight. Although Pittsburgh/Youngstown/Cleveland are not the most popular OC topics, there are still many people who look for specific information on these areas. I have researched it for about 10 years and am working on the Pittsburgh project with an author from Cleveland...a two part project. If any of you have specific questions, look me up on real deal at JCB1977 and I'd be happy to answer them. Thanks again for the positive feedback in most cases. Much appreciated.

Warm Regards,

JCB1977
