About 90% of the murders, apparently.

I suspect that Mulberry is correct, that most of the homicides are because someone thinks they are being "Dissed" whether correct or not. Is the heavy concentration of blue dots on the map the areas of Brooklyn that has gained a large number of blacks ?? Or, do you just know it because of your personal knowledge of the NYC area?? Has the Times ever published the racial makeup of the homicides or would that be too politically incorrect??

Criminality of a person doesn't relate to his race, but the situation he's living in and reason why the crime has been done. You can raise a black person in a high class neighborhood and he'll be graduating Harward, and you can raise a white kid in the ghetto and he'll be a drug dealer.

Actually I would bet , and Ray Kelly reflected this in an interview I read with him a couple years back, that domestic violence and drug-related violence account for over 80+% of the murders. He said something to the effect that they have the murder rate as low as it can go from a prevention standpoint.

This also plays into the rate of random murder. An overwhelming majority of the drugs and all of the domestics are murders between people who know each other. Your chances of getting killed by a random person in NYC are slim to none., Far greater chance of getting hit by a car.

What's also interesting is that if you were shot with a bullet 20 years ago and died in 2012 as a result of that bullet (injury to organ, long-term issues) NYPD classifies that as a murder.

The area of Brooklyn where most of the murders are taking place is Crown Heights, a traditional black neighborhoods, also a very poor one. Polak is right in saying crime is an economic problem not a racial one

I don't disagree with Polack Vet as to the causes of these crimes. I live in a city with a 40%-45% black population. Our local news covers Raleigh -majority white Durham majority black and Fayetteville and every night we see murder suspects marched into custody and at seems the vast majority are black. Our little town has had 18 murders already this year which may not sound bad if you live in Chicago, but for us it's a lot

Generally, the larger the city the higher chance of murders. But not always. My city for example is 54-58% Black and are average murder rate is 0-3 yearly.

Raleigh is ( in my opinion) not a small town. That's a big city roughly the same size as atlanta. So your 18 murders just might be average for city but that same number for a Greenville Ms then that would be high I suppose.

Raleigh's nowhere near the size of Atlanta dude

Atlanta's Population: 443,775. Raleigh's Population: 423,179. That's not much of a large difference dude.

I meant in terms of extended metro area Atlantas population I think comes to about 3 million

No, not Raleigh. I may have caused confusion. Sorry. My city - Fayetteville is small. Our "Local" news includes Raleigh, Durham and Fayetteville. 18 murders for us - Fayetteville- is a lot. My bad

"Fayetteville is small". We have very different opinions on what's considered a small city. Your city is 200,000+ , I find it hard to believe that's a small town.
