I'm pretty sure that the Née kid is Pat Nee's son. He lived with Nee's ex-wife in Charlestown. The murderer was a 22 yr old psychopath named Jemma Houlihan, the son of the kingpin. He stabbed a lot of people. They finally cracked the code of silence, and a lot of the hardcore guys went away for either life or a long time. There were more murders than the ones you mentioned. A kid named Peter Richardson was murdered around 1995. He was connected. He had been arrested for stabbing a guy to death when he was a teenager.

There was a Smith family of bank robbers, one of them, Brendan or Brian, I think ended up a vegetable when an armed robbery in Harvard Square in broad daylight went bad. Really, what could go wrong?? The armored car guy they robbed at gunpoint unloaded on the car, wounding all three. My buddy worked at a bar in Faneuil Hall in the late 80s, early 90s frequented by the Townies. You didn't want to get into a fight at the downstairs bar, lets leave it at that. You'd either lose by fist or by blade.

My sister in law lives in Charlestown. She went to a party and one of the women ther said matter of factly that her 'old man' was in jail. She later found out that he was doing life for bank robbery. Crazy but its part of the culture

Hi Lic.Jojo is an FBI informant. he gave up his partners on the assembly square bank job. he also was kicked out of the teamsters during the Perry purge with a lifetime ban and a nonassociation clause. if your a teamster member you cant even TALK ON THE PHONE with him! His old man was arrested twice(!) for exposing himself on the mbta. good stock that family. those charlestown guys are nuts!

Re: charlestown mob wars 1980- 2005 - 08/14/13 03:52 AM

mike thats actually true... the group of guys that hung out at that fauenl hall bar was john fiddler's crew... and there are a few more murders attempt murders i forgot will add them.. never hear of the richardson one... lived in new toen when i was a kid but moved.... IF ANY ONE ELSE CAN REMBER SOME I WILL ADD THEM, THERES DEF A FEW I FORGOT. and the bank rober thing, come on mike 90 percent of those townies in the 80s and 90s were bank robbers that was what townies were known for... that kid smith your tlaking about stole a getaway car for one of the new hampshire robberies ended up ratting out mr mcgoo and all the older guys like shea and all them. AND TO BE HONEST NONE OF THOSE FAMILYS STILL LIVE IN CHARLESTOWN... RENTS ARE TOO HIGH AND THE PROJECTS ARE RAN BY BLOODS NOW.... ALOT OF THEM RESIDE IN EVERETT, MELROSE,MALDEN, WAKEFIELD NOW

One of the Smith's, Wayne I think, pulled up in a brand new Porsche in front of the bar my buddy worked at, gave him a hug and said 'never let it be said that crime doesn't pay' and walked in. My buddy just shook his head.

Re: charlestown mob wars 1980- 2005 - 08/14/13 02:29 PM

There was another one, Albert Titcomb I think, he owed some kid something like a hundred bucks, they waited until he was passed out on booze and heroin and shot him in the head. Bunch of waste products.

I had a friend who was talking to a guy in the 99 in Charlestown years back. The guy was saying that he just got out of the can and then he had the gall to tell her why, that he shot another kid in the head at a cookout and killed him, like it was no big deal. She and her friend quickly left.

The NH armored car robbery was the worst. The five guys doing life now were all in their 30's and 40's at the time. All old enough to know better. But they still executed two working class armored car guards.

found this article on houlihan, fitzgerald and their hitman nardone. Nardone was also convicted of shooting a black highschool football player when he was younger, black kid ended up in a wheel chair and nardone got 10 years for it. I think that movie monument av is based on this.

Neighborhood Finally Talks, And Loosens Crime's Grip

For decades in Boston's Charlestown neighborhood, witnesses to crimes never breathed a word, either out of loyalty or out of fear.

But on Wednesday, two leaders of a drug ring and their enforcer were convicted in Federal District Court on charges of racketeering, cocaine trafficking, murder and attempted murder, with the help of testimony from about a dozen witnesses.

The two leaders, Michael Fitzgerald and John Houlihan, were charged with running a drug ring, using Joseph Nardone as their enforcer, out of Kerrigan's Flower Shop in Charlestown, a one-mile-square neighborhood on Boston Harbor that is also the home of Old Ironsides, the frigate Constitution.

The three are to be sentenced on May 18. Prosecutors are recommending that they get life in prison without parole.

Before the convictions, the Irish, working-class neighborhood of 15,000 was well known for its residents' habit of not talking to the police, its code of silence. The situation left many police officers frustrated.

"Most of the crime committed over there, we know who did it," said Capt. Edward McNelley of the police homicide unit. "But our knowing doesn't mean anything. We need a person to come forward and say, 'I was there and I will testify.' "

The authorities managed to crack the code of silence with a three-year investigation in which the Government spent more than $1 million to protect witnesses, including a half-dozen residents who asked to be moved out of the neighborhood for fear of retribution.

About a dozen thieves and drug dealers were granted immunity from prosecution and received new identities under the Federal witness protection program.

"This has been a long time coming, and it has given families some belief in the system again, that the system can work and we don't have to accept the way things were in the past," said Sandy King, whose two sons were shot in front of witnesses who would not talk.

Five years ago, she helped found the Charlestown After Murder Program, an organization of women who meet every Sunday in a Catholic church to talk about unsolved homicides that have affected their lives. The police say that of the 50 homicides the group has tracked since 1975, arrests have been made in only about half.

Ms. King said the code of silence was started long ago by Irish immigrants who distrusted authority. A longshoreman, for example, might steal a case of tuna from the docks but give a little of the fish to his neighbors so that when the police inquired about the theft, no one knew anything.

Over time, the silence allowed criminals to thrive.

Charlestown became known by law-enforcement officials nationwide for its small-time hoodlums, thieves, drug dealers and murderers. Crime became so commonplace that arguments normally settled in a fistfight often ended in murder.

Today, the Bunker Hill Monument divides a small group of young professionals who live in renovated brownstones from a far greater number of "townies," longtime residents who live in row houses and a sprawling housing project. Ninety-six percent of Charlestown is white.

During the trial, one witness told of driving the getaway car for Mr. Nardone and hearing the squat, bull-necked hit man laugh about killing an informer. The witness said he and Mr. Nardone had split a $5,000 fee.

But not everyone is sure that things have changed.

"I got nothing to say about nothing," said a clerk in a coin-operated laundry who would give her name only as Patty.

The owner of the laundry, who refused to give his name, said he doubted that the code of silence had really been broken.

"You talk about things you're not supposed to talk about, you get killed," he said.

Looks like Magoo died in the can last October per legacy.com

It was his son, Stephen who was on the rooftop with Nardone and Ronny Doe, nephew of the notorious Butchy Doe. Stephen Mcgonagle was killed a short time after the Daryl Willliams shooting, shot to death by his cousin, John Ferreira.

Daryl Williams died at age 46.

Re: charlestown mob wars 1980- 2005 - 08/15/13 08:51 PM

Yep, from Somerville with family and friends from Ctown. I like your post, you got alot right on point. But there is alot your missing that isn't spoken about on a message board. Im young, not a kid tho and got plenty of knowledge and know what im talking about. Mishawaum, is still predominately white, my family and alot of friends still live there. The Bunker Hill projects are definitly majority black and spanish, but there are still alot of whites there. Newtown is whites like you said. And the yuppie part isnt even worth speaking about, everyone knows that part of town is all rich white people. They were referred to as the Charlestown Bloods, and your right they all got kicked out. The real bloods are a black gang, there are fake bloods everywhere. Kids in Somerville call themselves the bloods.

Re: charlestown mob wars 1980- 2005 - 08/15/13 09:02 PM

i think i posted that story about the bloods bust in charleston, they were all dominicans if i remember correctly which was funny considering you don't usually get that. Whos taken over now that they have been busted?

You mentioned that alot of those irish gangsters joined the aryan brotherhood. Is there any AB prescence in the area?

Re: charlestown mob wars 1980- 2005 - 08/15/13 11:35 PM

yeah man always appreciate some fellow local knowledge... and your right boyo fu*k them yuppies they stole all our nighborhoods and piant there houses purple and plant little flower beds infront there brownstones.. and talk about how awsome boston is and its history.. WHAT THEY DONT UNDERSTAND IS WE GREW UP IN THOSE NIEGHBORHOODS CAUSE WE COME FROM NOTHING.... somerville is a great city... east somerville smells pretty fowel though haha you know. AND scorses the games up for grabs over there now in charlestown some players will move in and start running there shit.... And yeah all those townies did jion the AB in federal prison, cause you gotta have allies in those jionts.. fed prisons are bit rougher. alot them will never come home but some got 20 or 30 year sentences.. and the few that did come home usually get back into the junk and selling it. its just there nature.

Re: charlestown mob wars 1980- 2005 - 08/16/13 01:08 AM

Yea east somerville definite smells like shit. It's been crew after crew coming out of ctown. Smith didnt rat on Mr. Magoos crew. John Burke ratted out his brother Steven , Mikey O'Halloran, Shea, McDonald and Mr. Magoo. Also John Shurko ratted because he was with Anthony Shea and Nick Dimartino on the Wakefield job where the feds were waiting for them cause the feds bugged a Jeep they saw Shea steal and stash for the job. Brendan Smith was involved in the Harvard Square job, where all 3 suspects were shot. My brother-law was with Pat Mr. Magoo McGonagle the night before he got busted. Trust me I know my shit, but like I was saying, there's alot Im not gonna say on a message board.

Re: charlestown mob wars 1980- 2005 - 08/18/13 05:02 PM

yeah they pulled a shit ton of jobs, harvard sq, new hampshire, assembly square etc... what ive always wondered is have the guys that ever gave them the tip offs gone down.. liek the guys that worked for wells fargo and the banks and shit.. thats where they got there tips.... i did hear something about of the younger smiths and brennan ratting though could be a mix up. o' halloran, shea and macdonald are never coming home federal prison is where theyll be.. mr mcgoo left in a coffin. houlihan and fitzgerald, and nardone delt in drugs and bank robberies, for the most part mr mcgoo's crew just stuck to bank robberies.

Hi all I'm new here.....what about the death of Terri Burhoe on 7/11/81?

I've done some digging on this, apparently it was committed by 4 people instead of just the one guy...Butchy Doe was said to have been involved too....they killed her at the "terminals"(?) and then threw her body in the trunk and tried to burn it where it was found at the park..
Any info would be great....
