West Baltimore BGF Crew Convicted - 08/09/13 07:23 PM

By Ian Duncan, The Baltimore Sun Updated August 8, 2013

A federal jury on Thursday convicted a man described as the leader of a West Baltimore Black Guerrilla Family crew on robbery, drug and gun charges.

Antonio Davis, 33, and four other men were caught in a Drug Enforcement Administration "reverse sting" case after agreeing to a major drug robbery scheme proposed by a federal informant posing as a disgruntled cocaine courier.

When the group headed to a hotel to carry out the supposed robbery, police disabled their vehicle and arrested them.

"It was a very difficult case from the defendant's perspective," Davis' attorney Arcangelo Tuminelli said. "There was just a substantial amount of testimonial and video evidence and I'd have to say that the verdict was not unfair."

Tuminelli and other lawyers in the case had tried to argue that the law enforcement strategy was entrapment. But prosecutors introduced evidence at trial to support their position that Davis —who went by the name Tank Top —and his group had previously been involved in drug robberies, and were major traffickers in their own right.

Three other defendants in the case have pleaded guilty to robbery and gun charges and one pleaded guilty to a robbery charge.

The case was among a number of similar stings run by the DEA and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms in Baltimore in recent years.

Dummie, the boss is not suppose to speak directly about crime to outsiders, thats why black organizations don't last, the leader does stupid things

Drug trade comes with these risks.

it doesn't actually state the leader talked to anyone. My guess is that someone associated with the people whom they sold drugs to or with after the robberies gave them up. I bet they had serious records for armed robbery and weapons offences, feds put two and two together and set up the sting. Just bad luck at the end of the day, their willingness to do it probably indicated that they had robbed drug suppliers before, also the fact that its all recorded pretty much sealed their fates.

Also this isn't the entire organisation its just a crew.

he was one of four people caught in this sting so it was only a small crew. Looks like they specialised in robbing drug dealers and he was the ringleader.

Hes one of three guys that have been convicted recently. Tavon White plead guilty to racketeering and attempted murder in connection with prison smuggling scheme,is he cooperating i read he implicated other guards?. and this guy too just got sentenced:

Alleged BGF drug supplier gets 19 years in prison for Eastern Shore drug conspiracy

August 9, 2013
By Van Smith

Austin Roberts photoToday, Austin Roberts III learned his fate: 19 years in federal prison. That’s what he’d expected, according to his plea agreement, entered in May.

Though not charged in the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s 2009/2010 racketeering case against the Black Guerrilla Family (BGF) prison gang, Roberts figured prominently in court documents in that case as one of the gang’s main drug suppliers and was identified as one of three “key lieutenants on the streets for drug-trafficking activities” for the BGF, along with Rainbow Williams and Gregory Fitzgerald.

Roberts’ sentence today was handed down for his involvement in an Eastern Shore drug conspiracy, and until December 2012, when he was arrested in San Diego, he’d been on the lam since the indictment was handed down in June 2011.

The sentence “closes the book on a drug dealer who was responsible for trafficking a lot of cocaine on the Eastern Shore,” said Gary Tuggle, assistant special agent in charge of the DEA’s Baltimore office, in a press release. “You can run and hide but the long arm of justice will eventually catch you.”

unfortunately drugs have plagued baltimore worse than many other cities with heroin being the most problematic. That being said its difficult to have complete control as a boss in a drug trafficking organization without getting your hands dirty somewhat ( i mean lets say at the least you want to control the supply to your crew so you communicate solely with the supplier at the least)

as always appreciate these

his parents really hated him for naming him rainbow lol

vinnie
Really? Think about it?

The drug trade involves way more people, more violence and police scrutiny so of course theirs going to be a large number of people cooperating with authorities, proportionatley the mobs the same except with less people.

"proportionatley the mobs the same except with less people"

Do you really believe that? Again its unscientific and not provable, but my docket searches of federal courts have way, way, more rats per case in these kinds of moron drug dealers than the mafia.

The organization, structure, and number of rackets are also significantly less complicated. There is reason that street dealers in chicago don't even make minimum wage.

good point. One thing we are forgetting though is that this was a stick up crew not a drug trafficking organisation, who had probably been robbing drug traffickers for a while and reselling the stolen product on the street. Only four people arrested in this sting out of possibly over a thousand bgf members and affiliates in maryland so its not that big a loss to the gang.

Getting back to your point, the boss has to be the only one with access to the connect so yes you would make sure you are the only one with direct contact to the supplier. However you would need close associates to relay orders onto the street level dealers and associates, also depending on how many shooters you have you might hire out for hits. So yes being the leader is hands on, as you have to watch out for rivals, stick up crews, and associates trying to make their own connect, also laundering money, organising drug sales, taking over turf and finding stash houses.

Theres not a 100,000 mobster like there are gang members in chicago. The mob barely even exists outside of the new york city area except perhaps in nj and philly, so trying to compare the number of informants in the mob to the number of informants in the thousands of street gangs and drug organisations that dominate the drugs trade and criminal activity in many major cities not just in the north east is like saying a gold fish is as dangerous as a shark( im not good with metaphors).

Re: West Baltimore BGF Crew Convicted - 08/10/13 01:58 AM

@ Thebigfella, There isn't information on the number of crews that BGF have in Baltimore. This crew was planning on scoring 400K from this robbery. Of course they was mislead. You have to remember that BGF have sub leaders in the streets reporting back to the Supreme Bush over the city. @ Littlenicky, There have been 3/4 Rico cases on BGF and still remain stable. DEA have stated their the largest and most powerful prison gang in Maryland. Their paramilitary structure is effective and tight knit. They have been active in extortion, robberies, burglaries, bribery, money laundering, contraband smuggling, contracts. As stated in the indictment and not limited to those activities. Also, Chicago dealers earn plenty of money. @ Vinnietoothpick26, They abide by a strict death oath. Any orders that are given must be completed or that member faces death. Violations for light mistakes. So far I read of only 1 CI ( confidential informent) back in the 09 indictment. The next ones have wiretaps and tavon white only snitch on the other corrupt guards not members. Matter of fact it will make no sense to snitch on other members when your organization have most of the power in prison. That's why he plead guilty, nothing to worry about. What make you think this isn't organized crime? Even president Reagan's committee identified them as being involved in organized crime, same as with the FBI. Any other comments gentlemen?
