the bergin/fatico/gotti crew

Is this still n active crew in the gambinos today.does any1know who the captain is if so?or if gotti has any fam in that crew still around?I feel like there prolly not but no clue

The Fatico/Gotti crew was split multiple times from 1985 to now. Guys were being transferred from the crew and others added to the crew all the time. So there is no clear succession line of this crew. Today, at this moment, we simply don´t know where all the Gambino members fits in. But to answer your question, the Bergin crew as it was back in the 1970s and first half of the 1980s is no more.

What about other Gambino crews. Can you trace the line of succession for crews like (1) D'Amicos, (2) Corozzos, (3) Marinos, (4) John Gambinos, (5) Tommy Gambinos, (6) Jimmy Browns?

John Gambino pops up as a captain around 1986. I´m not sure if he inherited a crew or was simply given a crew by Gotti to run.

Nick Corozzo was originally a Ruggiano crew member, made an acting captain of this crew around 1985, demoted and put with Richichi and around 1989 transferred to Peter Gotti´s crew. In the early 1990s, Corozzo was given his own crew to run.

Danny Marino was a Failla crew member before given his own crew to run around 1987. He may have been demoted sometime around 1994/1995 when imprisoned. In any case, his crew was briefly put under DiLeonardo´s supervision. If Marino was demoted, he probably was put with Corozzo. Sometime after Gotti Sr´s death, Marino was upped again.

D´Amico took over from Paulie Zaccaria in 1989. This crew dates back to at least the 1950s. The captain in the 1950s was Jerome D´Aquila (the son of Tata D´Aquila). Around 1960, this crew was led by Calogero "Lilo" DiCarlo, later by Olympio "Lilo" Garofalo until Zaccaria took it over in 1986. When D´Amico was put on a ruling panel in early 1990s, DiLeonardo was made the acting captain but a year or two later, he was given an own small crew to run. I tend to believe Frank Cali also served as an acting captain for this crew later in the 00s.

Tommy Gambino was given his own crew around 1980. Taking in some guys from Connecticut who had previously been under Frank Piccolo in addition to guys who had previously been under Joe "From the Bronx" Gambino. When Gambino was in prison, his crew was led by George Remini and later by Carmine Sciandra both on acting basis. Tony Megale, a crew member, was later made a captain of the old Carminati crew while Sciandra was made the official captain of Gambino´s crew when he retired.

Failla was first an acting capo of the Petey "Pumps" Ferrara crew bsck in 1964 but was transferred to Joey Gennaro´s crew and took it over when Gennaro became ill in 1967. Gennaro had inherited Lombardozzi´s large crew around 1965. When Failla took it over, the crew split between him and Jimmy Corrao. The Brooklyn based guys in this crew ended up with Failla, while the Manhattan based guys ended up with Corrao. In the 1990s, this crew was led by Louis "Fats" Astuto on acting basis while Failla was incarcerated. I tend to believe that Joseph Lombardi took over Failla´s crew when he died in 1999. I have no clue who runs it today.

I believe Pogo said the crew was split in 1999 between Dominick Pizzonia and Sally Scala. His chart then continued the succession till 2001 with Pizzonia being imprisoned, Richard Gotti from 2001-2002 (also imprisoned), and Mikey Paradiso from 2002 to the present.

It was originally split already in 1986. Both Ruggiero and Gene Gotti (two former Fatico/Gotti crew members) were both captains in the second half of the 1980s. Ruggiero was succeeded by Eddie Lino (who took in basically all the old timers living down in Florida plus Sal Scala) while Gene Gotti was succeeded by Peter Gotti. After Lino´s death, I believe the two crews (Lino´s and Pete Gotti´s) merged but was split again a short time after when Corozzo (a Peter Gotti crew member) was given his own crew.

And also...John Gotti Jr (a Pete Gotti crew member) was given his own crew to lead in 1990.

You sure about that? I seem to recall (and this is what Pogo said as well) that Angelo Ruggiero took over as captain after Gotti became boss. He was then demoted in 1988. Gene Gotti then was captain from 1988 to 1989, thereafter being imprisoned on the heroin charges. And that's when Peter Gotti became captain.

I´m kinda sure, Ivy. But Pogo may be right. Either way, the old Fatico/Gotti crew stopped to exist in around 1986 or later when Lino broke off.

I would be very gratefull i someone would have some info on peter petey pumps ferarra,was he a manhattan or ar a brooklyn guy??i think he was in armand rava's crew with toddo aurello,but im not sure..any would help ;)there is nothing on the net

Ferrara was a Brooklyn guy and one of the biggest numbers operator in the New York Metropolitan area. He run his bank in partnership with Carlo Gambino. He was also big in the jukebox and cigarette vending machine business. He was probably a loanshark too. Good earner. Very close to Gambino. His legit front was The Bell Fuel Company which offices were located at Coney Island Avenue in Brooklyn. Ferrara was indicted in 1964 on charges of murder (Alfred Santantonio killing) but skipped bail and was a fugitive for almost a year before apprehended. He was later acquitted of the murder charge, thanks to Jimmy Failla who according to an informant "was engaged in the accumulation of documentary evidence to support a motion to dismiss the charges". Jimmy Brown was a Ferrara crew member and acting skipper at that time.

If memory serves, Ferrara was indicted again in 1968. This time for conspiracy to murder. The charges stemmed from a secretly planted bug in Mike Scandifia´s headquarters and picked up conversations of hitting guys. I think some of the transcripts can be found on the net, I´m sure I´ve read them. But the indictment was dismissed due to the bugging had been conducted illegally. Scandifia disappeared a year later, most probably murdered. Ferrara died a natural death in 1969. His crew was taken over by Toddo Aurello.

His father, Joseph was most likely a Gambino member too.

Off the top of my head I don´t think that I do. The only stuff I know about Aurello is the stuff that can be found in Gravano´s book.

Do you happen to know the neighborhoods some of these crews were based? The D'Amico/Zaccaria crew especially.

Very often, many crews have members scattered through different neighborhoods. The "D´Amico crew" were mostly based out of the Bensonhurst section (due to Lilo Garofalo) and Lower East Side (due to the crew´s earlier leaders like Jerome D´Aquila).
Tommy´s crew had soldiers in Connecticut, The Bronx, Staten Island although him mostly spending his time in the Garment Center.
John Gambino operated out of Cafe Giordano on 18th Avenue in Brooklyn, but he probably had soldiers based in NJ and other parts of NY too. Etc.

And do you know about danny marino's crew?i think aurello's crew aswell as jimmy brown's were based in bensonhurst..what do you think knuckels?

Thanks! That's what I thought about the D'Amico crew. That they had guys in the 1st avenue/10th street area of the Lower East Side (i.e. the formerly Italian area near the DeRobertis pasticeria, Veniero's and Lanza's restaurant).

Wasn't that the site of armone's crew and handsome jack giordano?i read somewhere that de robertis was like a hq of the crew..

We’re still reveling in yesterday’s excitement of seeing Boardwalk Empire set up a mock-prohibition-era scene in the East Village. In fact, we’re drinking Mint Juleps and listening to Cole Porter right now. Okay, we don’t get quite that crazy at the office, but we have been thinking more about the neighborhood’s connections to prohibition and the mob. So, we decided to visit another historic Italian establishment with links to gangster culture- DeRobertis Pasticceria and Caffe
Opened on April 20, 1904 by Paolo DeRobertis, the pasticceria was originally called Caffe Pugliese in honor of Paolo’s Italian birthplace in Puglia, Italy. In 1928, Paolo trained his son John DeRobertis Sr. and passed the business on to him. Today, it is run by John DeRobertis Jr. who grew up on East 11th Street but now commutes in each day from Nutley, NJ to make sure his family’s legacy continues. He is proud of the fact that everything is baked on the premises. The original ornately-tiled floors and pressed-tin ceiling still remain today.

So now back to that mob connection. It’s a pretty well known fact that gangsters like their cannolis, so why wouldn’t they hang out in a pastry shop owned by fellow Italian immigrants? DeRobertis was considered the “safe” mafia hangout of the East Village. Local boy Lucky Luciano often hung out there in the 20′s, holding meetings in the back room with fellow mobster and Lower East Sider Meyer Lansky. In fact, actor Vincent Piazza, who plays Luciano on Boardwalk Empire, spent time in DeRobertis as research for his role.

The mafia connection to the bakery only grew as the years went on and the mob’s stronghold intensified. In 1935, mobster Mike Sabatelli, aka “Mike the Boss,” was arrested at DeRobertis with several others for running an “Italian Lottery” out of the pastry shop. During the 70′s it was a favorite hangout for Carmine “Lilo” Galante, then boss of the Bonanno crime family. In fact, Galante is believed to have murdered Carlo Tresca outside of John’s Italian Restaurant. In 1991, eight members of the Gambino crime family were indicted on murder and other charges. One of these men was John “Handsome Jack” Giordano, who had assumed some of John Gotti’s power while he, at the time, was in prison awaiting trial. The arrests stemmed from the crew’s “office” in DeRobertis where they ran “businesses” of gambling, lone sharking, extortion, drug and weapon dealing, and the sale of forged credit cards. Wiretaps were placed in DeRobertis in addition to a presence of undercover cops and informants. Giordano’s uncle, Joseph “Joe Piney” Armone, had first started running operations out of the pastry shop when he became John Gotti’s second underboss (his first, Frank DeCicco was killed in 1986). Armone went to prison in 1988 for racketeering, at which time matters were handed over to Giordano, who would receive a one-year sentence after the DeRobertis raid (he was shot and killed in 1995 on the Upper East Side). According to a New York Times Articles written about the 1991 arrests, shortly after the commotion everyone went back to merrily eating their Pignoli cookies and sipping espresso. We can’t say we blame them by the looks of those delicious confections.
