Not a bio but some info:

- Born June 17, 1917 in New York City. To my knowledge, Squillante was not blood related at all to Albert Anastasia, but claimed he was his god child. Had a brother (Nunzio) also a made guy with the Gambinos.

- Made into Frank Scalise´s Bronx/East Harlem crew but was given his own crew sometime in the mid 1950s.

- Criminal record dating from 1953 included arrests for income tax violation, state narcotic laws, violation of probation and extortion. According to FBN, Squillante had been deeply involved with the heroin trade for some time.

- Big in the garbage collection industry. Known to have been a labor relations advisor to the Greater New York Cartmen´s Association. He took the 5th Amendment to more than 100 questions when he appeared before the Senate rackets Committee in 1957.

- Later in 1957, Squillante and Bernard Adelstein, a carting union boss, were charged with extortion. Squillante was found guilty and in 1959 sentenced to from seven and a half to 15 years in prison. However, he was freed on 50.000,00 dollar bail on a certificate of reasonable doubt by the Supreme Court.

- According to informant, Squillante had been responsible for killing Joe Scalise in 1957, had butchered his body, placed his remains in a garbage truck and dumped them in a garbage yard. According to the same informant, the murder had occured in Squillante´s basement. He may also have been involved with setting up Frank Scalise to be killed. But the actual shooter in that hit most likely was Arthur "ch*nk" Leo, a Squillante crew member.

- In September 1960 Squillante vanished. Six years later an informant advised the FBI that he had been murdered and his remains cut up and burned and then disposed of in the garbage dump owned by a Frank Troiano. It was the informants belief that Frank Troiano, Joseph Fiorello, Nick Rattenni and Leo Troiano either killed Squillante or caused his remains to be disposed of after he was killed. According to Jerry Capeci and Gene Mustain in the book "Murder Machine", Nino Gaggi was somehow involved with this killing.

Yes that is correct. Nunzio set up his son Angelo in Connecticut running a garbage collecting business. According to Angelo himself, he was moved to Connecticut to get away from the dangers in the aftermath of the Jimmy S. killing. To my knowledge, Angelo was never involved with the Mafia.

Albert was the boss at the time, not Carlo.

Almost every visible mobster/accused killer from that era was at some time, by the media, unfoundedly linked to the so called "Murder Inc".

Squillante was powerful, as long as Anastasia was alive. After Anastasia´s murder, all his powers and most of his rackets were taken away from him.

Re: Vincent James Squillante a.k.a. Jimmy Jerome - 11/24/14 08:41 AM

So he was taken out due to a house cleaning. New administration.

Re: Vincent James Squillante a.k.a. Jimmy Jerome - 11/24/14 08:59 AM

Not necessarily due to a house cleaning. There were plenty of former Anastasia loyalists who did not suffer any consequences by the new establised administration. I think Squillante was unable to adapt to the new regime and to the new pecking order. It´s possible that he simply didn´t accept his demotion/his rackets taken away from him and/or Gambino as the new head.

The Gambinos had four crew leaders based in the Bronx/East Harlem in the 1950s/1960s: Dave Amodeo, Rocco Mazzie (spent most of his time in prison), Arthur Leo (succeeded by Napolitano) and Joe Zingaro.
