In case you needed any more proof...here is a letter Phil Carlo sent to Tommy Pitera.

Note Carlo admits Kuklinski was not involved with DeMeo...christ how much of your book is left then?

Note also Carlo says Tommy never told him anything about Japan. So how did Carlo get the info on it in the book? He made it up of course! Google the name of Tommy's "famous sensei" or whatever and see nothing but "Butcher" references come up.

Anyway I said on here a little while ago a bunch of interesting documents have recently been scanned, this is just one of them. Tommy turning down Phil, and knocking his work is the reason for the lies about Tommy having a girl's voice and other low blows.

In Carlo's book he said the Iceman killed both Demeo and Galante? And then openly admits it was bullshit to Tommy Karate? What a fuckin asshole and 2 bit hack.

I know at one point he had to go to Chuck Zito because he was seriously worried about Pitera. Zito is or was friends with a few top Bonanno guys and he supposedly went to them on Carlo's behalf. Carlo wrote about it.

Also note the date mentioned, and when "Butcher" was released, Carlo sure didn't put a whole lot of time into the book.

As I have said before, Carlo made up the cross dressing and voice thing (amongst other lies) because Tommy would not help him, and ripped into him for the lies in his other books. The letters where Tommy does that should be on the internet in the near future....take my word for it...

I have it on good authority that the original copy of this letter maybe be on sale on Ebay in the near future. I don't know if the original is highlighted, but if it is it's all Tommy's highlighting. I will post a link here if it happens.

No he did not...Kuklinski never killed for the mafia, he stayed away from them after DeMeo slapped him around. Real LCN guys from that time period find the idea laughable that he was a mafia hitman. Look at the list of people Iceman was convicted of killing...notice there are no Italian surnames? Funny for a mafia hit man...Carlo paid $10k to Kuklinski for his story, and I have heard people on the inside speculate Carlo just told him to sit back and let him make up his story for him.

I have even talked to someone who knows Richard Ramirez (he is a somewhat famous serial killer memorabilia guy) and he says Ramirez said "Nightstalker" is only about 75% accurate...damn high for a Carlo book, but not that high. There is also a taped phone call out there where Ramirez calls Carlo a "weasel."

Tommy did respond...just not how Carlo wanted. He basically called Carlo a fraud, and was only interested in exposing govt. corruption in his case, as someone who did time with Tommy posted on here once Tommy thinks he has a shot of getting out still and works towards that end.

But your basic point stands, Tommy didn't talk to get out of a life sentence why would he start talking to Phil Carlo??

Arghhh, so I am an idiot, I actually have a copy of the letter where Tommy rips into Phil, but I forgot to scan it, and my friend who is posting all those documents doesn't have it scanned either.

Next couple of days I will try to get over to the library and scan it, then you guys will see why Carlo really had a motive to lie so much about Tommy, like making up stuff about his voice, infer he fucked a dead woman's skull etc.

Yup, that is the DEA unit that hunted Tommy and others, the one Carlo paints as modern untouchables...

What is messed up is that Andrew Orena's production company is going to go the "super honest cop" angle with their Pitera movie (if they ever get enough money up to make it).

What is funny in the not ha ha way about that is that Tommy helped out Vic Orena when they were in MCC together. I hope Andrew doesn't include lies about Tommy's voice.

EDIT: There is also a lawyer with a blog online (simplejustice.us) who claims DEA Agent Hunt threatened to kill him in the hallway of a court house.

Anyway, I said my piece...if you guys wanna go back to discussing what author's write, and speculation go ahead. I can only lead the horse to water. Just thought I would share these nuggets and let you know there is a lot more to come.

Don't get me wrong, I completely agree that Carlo was a lousy writer, and I post as much almost every time his name comes up here. But Carlo's being a hack does nothing to absolve Pitera of his crimes. He's a multiple murderer and he belongs exactly where he is. If he believes he's getting out one day, good for him. But a lot of lifers convince themselves of that very thing just to help them cope.

The truth is, when it comes to getting his conviction thrown out, Pitera has about the same odds as Charles Manson (who killed fewer people, by the way).

But if there's "more to come" simply because you want to continue to discredit Carlo, go ahead. I thought the guy was a no talent hack. But he's dead, so I don't want to pile on.

Hard to keep people working for you once they know about you and what to expect so I could see it happening though not with kuklinsky.

You raise a good point, and I myself have said on this board before that none of this makes Tommy a saint by any means. However there is a lot of lies about there, and since this is an OC discussion board it seems worthwhile to try to discover some bits of truth about a well known figure.

Also, there was a ton of corruption involved with DEA Unit 33, again does not mean Tommy is a choir boy but it is worth while to bring up the dirty tactics the government used against him. Tommy being guilty, and the feds being dirty are not mutually exclusive.

Put it another way, most people would say the Boston branch of the Patriarca Family was guilty of all sorts of crimes, doesn't mean we shouldn't discuss all the shady things the FBI with Bulger and Flemmi to put them into prison.

Anyway, nice change of pace I would think from the speculation, and NY tabloid articles that often fill these boards.

Tommy did start in NYC, but then went to Japan (with the support of his father, unlike what Carlo says). Also unlike what Carlo says Tommy did in fact operate a school next to a military base (the one on Okinawa I believe but don't quote me on that just yet).

And again, Tommy sounds more like Tommy Udo in Kiss of Death as the DEA agents who hunted him said. But really he has more of an authentic Brooklyn accent.

Others who say they knew him say he had normal voice. It has also been said that no instructor with name Carlo mentioned existed. I wish one side or other would clear it up. The amount of people saying Philip Carlo was a liar is pretty heavy.

Couple, more documents, these show why Carlo did not like Tommy. Because Tommy brought up all his lies, and did not want to help him do a book unless it was about the corruption he alleges went on during his case.

Carlo without doupt made up the name of the Karate "Master" google the name and you see he does not exist. The book is a farce.
