Ten Commandments

In November 2007 Sicilian police reported discovery of a list of "Ten Commandments" in the hideout of mafia boss Salvatore Lo Piccolo, thought to be guidelines on good, respectful and honourable conduct for a mafioso.

1.No one can present himself directly to another of our friends. There must be a third person to do it.

2.Never look at the wives of friends.

3.Never be seen with cops.

4.Don't go to pubs and clubs.

5.Always being available for Cosa Nostra is a duty - even if your wife is about to give birth.

6.Appointments must absolutely be respected. (probably refers to formal rank and authority.

7.Wives must be treated with respect.

8.When asked for any information, the answer must be the truth.

9.Money cannot be appropriated if it belongs to others or to other families.

10.People who can't be part of Cosa Nostra: anyone who has a close relative in the police, anyone with a two-timing relative in the family, anyone who behaves badly and doesn't hold to moral values.

The pentito Antonino Calderone recounted similar Commandments in his 1987 testimony:

These rules are not to touch the women of other men of honour; not to steal from other men of honour or, in general, from anyone; not to exploit prostitution; not to kill other men of honour unless strictly necessary; to avoid passing information to the police; not to quarrel with other men of honour; to maintain proper behavior; to keep silent about Cosa Nostra around outsiders; to avoid under all circumstances introducing oneself to other men of honour.

It's rules to this shit, I wrote me a manual
A step-by-step booklet for you to get
Your game on track, not your wig pushed back
Rule Number Uno: never let no one know
How much dough you hold cause you know
The cheddar breed jealousy 'specially
If that man fucked up, get yo' ass stuck up......

So now the guy tries to make a decent thread and you all still throw it off topic? I guess he can't win for losing.

Thanks for posting Snickers... does anyone have a similar list that was taken or confessed to regarding the u.s. mob? I know we all have an idea what they would be, just wondering if there was anyone that had anything on paper, so to speak.

The only thing i know of that someone from the US was found with was a list of people who were to be made. I always thought it was Provenzano not Lo Piccolo who was caught with this guess i was mistaking.

They act like gangsters because of the weak presence of Black men in the community.

Let me ask you something. In Gangsters and Goodfellas Henry Hill mentioned something about how Tommy DeSimone had tried to rape his wife Karen. Now, since Henry wasn't made, and Tommy was (or assumed he was at the time), did he feel the need to make moves on a non-made men's wife without any consequences?

tommy wasn't made either, but i dont think that mattered to him, he actually killed a made guy. Criminals dont follow rules, the only gangsters that follow rules are broke ones.

It's symbolic. A lot of times italian mafioso have a list wrapped together with a saint, or with a small bible, or something similar. Men like "this guy", Lo Piccolo, don't need it as a reminder, but keeping it close to them is important to a lot of them.

thank you carmela.. i seen you post before and i respect alot of what you say.. guys like lo piccolo are pure old school, he had a great run.. these rules they have at induction are strange to ask of new members..they all went to clubs and bars , also cops, they were always close to police, they could never get the inside info without them or in the past get cases throw out, right now wise guys there have family who are in l.e...but in comparison to the u.s. what ever rules they issue are all broken . they make guys lie on the first moment they get made.. crazy..why swear to rules you do not believe in..how can they respect each other from day one...tough life to live
