Top Genovese guys today - 02/22/13 05:34 PM

Back in the middle to late 1970's,early 80's,Matty the Horse Ianello,Quiet Dom,Barney,Ernest Muscarella,Danny Leo, where were these guys as far as theyr power goes in those days? Being such a secretive family it's not so rare of us to find out a guy we've only started hearing of in recent years has really been a powerhouse for decades in that family.

Matty, QD, Danny Leo, Musceralla all rising and heavy. Add in Angelo Prisco, Dominick DiQuatro, Dom Cantinero and about fifty other Dom's. All big players
Barney was in high school in the 70's became huge overnight in the mid 80's. Literally overnight.

Most of the guys you mentioned are still pretty powerful. Other than Matty who's dead but I think prisco still runs things from the can, is that right east?

My opinion, first off he was Sal's kid! Everyone respected Sal. He was smart, loyal, fearless, cunning, treacherous, tough, no bad personal habits, kept close council and Fat Tony and Chin both looked out for and groomed him. But if you ask why I really think. Barney is a master politician, he played the middle on Chin and Tony. So they both pushed him up! Just my thoughts.

I've heard of him Pizz, old time Bronx guy who just got busted in the Westchester garbage case, I believe he also has the distinction of being the only wiseguy in Mahopac New York, that place is the trailer park version of Staten Island

Why do people keep saying Depiro was acting captain for Fiumara? Unless I missed something else, his indictment said he was a soldier. The last guy to be said to be acting captain of the Fiumara (now Coppola) crew was Michael Borelli.

Well, that's already jumping to a conclusion. He was simply described as the point man there. In the indictment, he seems to have been involved in gambling and loansharking operations like Joe Queli was. I'm not sure if he was actually involved in the labor racketeering aspect of the docks, though he may have been. But I've seen nothing that says he was running the entire crew at any time.

Ivy, if you will take my word for anything let it be this. They don't go to the docks everyday for the coffee and conversation. Those docks are HELL on earth. I've poured a ton of concrete at those docks and yards, when your pouring concrete and feel bad for others you know it must be bad. Because pouring concrete is about the hardest work there is. Until I watched what those animals do day in day out!

I'm not saying this guy is a labor shiester, just saying those places suck! And the smell is awful. Combination of Sea and Fumes!

I'm just saying that people shouldn't jump to the conclusion he is or was the acting captain of the crew. Why? Just because he was named in the waterfront indictment? Joe Queli was named in one as wells Going by the same criteria, we may has well call Queli the acting captain too.

This is what I mean about certain things being assumed as fact on these forums. They then get repeated over and over again by different parties. And before you know it, it's accepted as the truth by everybody.

If Depiro was the acting captain, the feds would likely have known it and he would have been labeled as such in the indictment.

I was a business agent for Teamsters Local 813 in New York City. I was a worker, a steward, then finally a business agent for a total of 25 years. That's funeral workers and private sanitation. I worked on the funeral side of the local but we crossed over quite a bit to help each other.

I'm not upset here. I've just noticed that a few people have been referring to Depiro as the acting captain. And, since he was identified in his indictment as a soldier, I naturally wonder where they're getting this from.

OK, for the sake of argument, let's say Depiro runs the docks. Does that automatically mean that he's the acting captain of that crew? Does one equal the other? No. I can believe he was running the docks more easily because a soldier can do that. But if he was acting captain, at least at the time of the indictment, he would have most likely been labeled as such.

I agree. Those news article, as well as the most recent waterfront report, showed just how much some of these guys are making in their cushy ILA jobs. Plus you have kickbacks from other ILA workers, shakedown payments from waterfront businesses, rigged contracts, inflated service provider payments, etc.

Originally Posted By: SgWaue86

Anything is possible. If Depiro was announced by the feds to be the new acting captain next Monday, I wouldn't be surprised. Even Borelli was only named in the 2004 New Jersey OC report. The only thing that's fairly certain at the moment is that Michael Coppola is the official captain of the crew.

Right but what kind of time do his charges carry and is there any chance they could send him up for more than 10? I would think 10 or more would put a severve hamper on his rise in the family.

Besides joke jobs, biggest ILA scam is cutting back a guys hours. They come to you asking for work "yeah, sure but you give me $5 an hour of that". What's a guy going to do! Then they lend money to those guys, they give them enough hours to pay it back then choke there hours back again for another loan. Vicious cycle
They also set up check cashing, force guys to use them. 2% don't sound like much, however when total payroll is 100K that's not bad. You going to tell the guy who gives you your hours he can't cash your check?

What about giving a guy a decent postion and then telling him i put you here so you're gonna give me 10% of your yearly pay, i would think that shit happens all the time but i just asking or am i way off? If you do that with a couple guys that adds up to alot of fucking cabbage lol.

If you look at the possible penalties for each count in the indictment, they're often very long. If a guy like Depiro was convicted and actually served the time specified, he'd be in prison for a long time. But most likely there will be a plea agreement, which drastically cuts the time he'll be behind bars.
